I've decided to spend the little time I have left this year trying out some demos I had on my to-do list, and I wanted to tell you about one of the games that caught my attention the most beforehand: Barreroll, a roguelite based on deck building and turn-based combat.

It's a relatively simple game, and it's easy to see why it stands out. The aesthetics are absolutely stunning, boasting stylized visuals and excellent execution in every aspect.

Mechanically, it's also simple but allows for decent strategic depth. You're armed with your trusty revolver and an arsenal of bullets with different effects that you must combine to defeat enemies. It's quite classic in that regard: you have conventional bullets, bullets that delay turns, bullets that add damage over time, bullets that deal more damage to shields or regular HP... Each time you fire, your barrel rolls, and you must choose the next bullet to fire until you're forced to reload. You also have a series of special abilities that charge up during combat. (I apologize that you can't hear anything, there were issues with the recording, I assure you that the effects and music are very thematic)

I've decided to spend the couple of days left of this year trying out demos I had pending. Continuing with my list, is the turn of Roboquest, probably many of you already know it, a Fast-Paced First Person Shooter with a focus on Roguelite.

There's a ridiculously huge variety of weapons with diverse effects and approaches that allow for all sorts of strategies, six classes with distinct abilities that change the flow of gameplay, a hub where you can acquire various upgrades to help you during runs, and various individual upgrades that are acquired through runs as you level up and are different for each class... And more details. As I said, it's fairly standard, but that doesn't mean it's lacking; it covers everything you could expect from the genre.
