1. what i like most about them stems almost entirely just from me growing up with them, but i'd say the thing i want most from a racing game either comes down to a really good sense of speed, or a driving model that feels good and is worth learning to improve at.
2. my big issue with modern racing games is that they... don't have either of these. i don't mind indie games being derivative, but i've looked at some indie racers and most of them are very specifically copying either Outrun or Sega Rally, and have incredibly basic driving to boot

For me personally it goes deeper than that, I'm the type of person who cares a lot about nuance details like the car models looking right and the engine sounds being good. Seeing Forza using car models dating back to Forza Motorsport 1 in 2005 (like the R32 GT-R and the Silvia) and getting the car sounds all wrng ticks me off
