i have a rly funny clip of one of my (former) friends playing with me and he built entirely around speed, he just yells "bye bye sucker" and immediately runs for the exit, taking both bots with him and leaving me for dead (heh)

they also went out of their way to alienate the fanbase it had, like patching speedrunning tricks that only worked in very specific scenarios and losing the speedrunning fanbase in the process, which are arguably the most loyal fanbase you can have

and you can still feed an entire teams worth of potions into a single huntsman or RV and just obliterate bosses that way if your team is capable of getting through the rest of the map without spending too many consumables

The Tank Archetypes in VT and DT are completely fine to me in both games, they serve the purposes of being shock troops that could sufficiently mess up the party

But the story bosses, while challenging on their own, don’t get any more dangerous besides any mistakes people make with their minions

Which at that point when you’ve learned the attack patterns and manage the hordes better than plenty, then it’s just a waiting game of watching the dude’s HP bar tick down (unless he’s doing that thing where he’s invincible and you have to wait to attack him)

I think the only Story Boss I like from VT2 is the one you fight after reentering the Skittergate - but that might be because the boss is never invincible despite having such beefy HP - plus it uses the Rat Ogre enemy type for the first half, so actually facing this enemy is really dangerous itself.

I love L4D’s and VT2’s characters because they have stories that are both self-referential, but also kinda tie together into a believable group who get along at the heart of it despite the bickering

Except Saltspyre and Kerillian who really do just tolerate each other.

I do love the voice work and personalities of DT’s Rejects, but I don’t feel as strong for any of them because I don’t feel any strong connections, like with VT2’s Heroes.

There are implied pasts between some of them, but because of the nature of the designed game, I feel atmosphere being prioritized over a story has a chunk of any genuine feelings of camaraderie between your teammates’ characters feeling too shallow.

Vermintide 2 had a bunch of characters that seemed like they hate each other for different reasons, but due to stuff happening either in their shared hub or mid-combat, some compassion does slip out.

Darktide doesn’t have that history your characters can share with each other - unless some voicelines dictate that there is, despite never meeting that distinct player before.

So it’s kind of a confused toss-up between “these are characters that share history” and “soldiers who share the same cause.”

It’s not bad, it makes some sense, that’s what Deep Rock Galactic has, but DRG doesn’t chase a narrative as deep as what Fatshark is doing or has done before, and foregoing a consistent narrative for DT hurts my enjoyment or care for its story.

ive noticed vt2 pub players are on average just friendlier and more helpful than in other similar games ive played and i think part of this is because the game's worldbuilding treats the characters your teammates are playing as people who deserve to be cared about despite their flaws

and i think that for a lot of players that association with the character unconsciously also results in a similar association with the actual person playing the character

And we are disinfected thoroughly after every mission, as well as under pretty tight surveilance aboard the Morningstar

I think it doesn’t take too long, like most you can hold the swing for is 2 seconds before it automatically swings.

I use Thrust for Monstrosities (+Stealth) or anything bigger than usual like Ogryns or the uh forgot what the bucketheads were called

Otherwise I just use it like a normal melee weapon against anything else, using the Heavy Attack for Crowd Control with its Wide Sweeps and stuff

Specialists or Elites I don’t feel condifent melee’ing get the laser-focused Braced Autogun or reflexive Knife

Don’t remember if I use Thrust for Mutants or not but whenever I toreador them with my Thunderhammer, they die in one Electrified Heavy Swing

Despite my big favor for my Stealth build, I think I adore Precision too much to not use the Magnum for my CC loadouts for both Psyker and Zealot.
