i want to avoid the face patterns from going over the mouth, just want the face patterns to be clipped on the upper/lower lips, face, and side hair fluffs. if there's someone than can help me order the layers better, I will be very grateful. the video has my voice over explaining a bit more on what's going on. if its not possible to do it without doing the warp deformer, please let me know.

you can try it with the layers like that as well

#

idk how well it will work but it should like

#

technically work

errant falcon
#

so all these parts i put on top of the face patterns?

flint lodge
#

yes

#

except for the lips

errant falcon
#

so i unclip them from the back mouth?

flint lodge
#

yes

errant falcon
#

ok so what do i do about it sticking out now

flint lodge
#

ok so you're gonna have to either make the mouth skin larger or draw and import a separate mask for the mouth

#

i'd recommend importing a separate mask

errant falcon
#

how should the mask be

flint lodge
#

hold up ill sketch it for you

errant falcon
#

i see

#

okay

flint lodge
#

then you rig the masks to follow the shape of the mouth

#

and inverse clip all the mouth parts to them instead

#

and set them to 0% opacity

errant falcon
#

so i do that just for the upper lip?

#

or for both lower and upper

flint lodge
#

both upper and lower lip

#

like in my sketch

errant falcon
#

oh becuase the lower lip is just a straight line

#

would that be a problem?

flint lodge
#

no just draw the lower lip mask to follow the lower lip line :)

#

oh also real quick have you already rigged the mouth? (for determining the best way to rig the mask reasons)

#

and if you have, could you show me a picture of the mesh?

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

the mesh, not just the layer itself

#

the dots and lines over the layer

errant falcon
#

v

flint lodge
#

ok nice you should be able to just use glue to have the mask follow the lips

errant falcon
#

Like that?

flint lodge
#

can ya show it to me with the mouth visible as well?

errant falcon
#

oh what i did was just duplicated and clipped the red color over

#

and then added the square shape

flint lodge
#

oki, then you should be good ^^

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

ok now copy these parts on the respective lips and paste them onto their masks

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

then just add a few dots on the outside, to create something like this

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

place the dots on the inside of your mesh

#

so that you cut into it a bit

#

then make sure all the lines are connected like this

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

yup, now just connect the lines, so that you don't have any going horizontally

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

these ones here as well

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

hmm your autoconnect seems to be connecting these dots here weirdly

#

can you just click on them once with the arrow tool and see if that fixes it?

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

ok try connecting them like this instead

#

forgot a line oops

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

ok yeah that looks better, you're still missing these 2

#

connect those, then you should be done

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

hold up you somehow have an extra dot here

errant falcon
#

oh thats my mouse

flint lodge
#

ohhh hahah

#

ok yeah then you're good

#

so now select the lip first, then its respective mask

errant falcon
#

so the layering like this or no?

flint lodge
#

layering doesn't matter since it's justr a mask

#

so yeah thats fine

errant falcon
#

oh okay

flint lodge
#

ok then once you've selected them go into mesh edit mode

errant falcon
#

i select both the mask and upper lip

flint lodge
#

yup

#

in the order i said

#

so lip first, then mask

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

then go into mesh edit mode

#

and select the vertices the 2 meshes have in common

#

and click bind

#

i keep forgetting it's called bind and not glue smh

errant falcon
#

okay glued

flint lodge
#

perfect then go out of mesh edit mode, and click on the name of the glue

#

then just draw over it with the brush until it's all displayed red

errant falcon
#

this right?

flint lodge
#

yup

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

mhmm looks good

#

now just go back to your arrow tool and see that the mask follows the lips

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

looks good

#

now just do the same for the lower lip

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

just connect these here as well

errant falcon
#

does it matter if the mask is passing the face?

flint lodge
#

nope we're gonna make it invisible anyway

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

yup looks good

errant falcon
flint lodge
#

looks good! now just inverse clip the teeth tongue and inside mouth layers to both masks

#

then set the masks to 0% opacity

errant falcon
#

ay it worked!

#

thankyou!

flint lodge
#

yippie! glad i could help :)
