I just refreshed on alt info. Here's page you may want to check out. Currently, you can only be a citizen of one node per server, which can be portrayed as not alt friendly, but I think it makes sense. Loyalty to a node, reason to defend it, encourages more trade and such.

right now there are 2 types of mounts - aquatic mounts and land mounts. Land mounts are faster on land but slower in water, aquatic mounts are slower on land and faster in water. Right now all land mounts have the same speed, and all aquatic mounts have the same speed

For human characters, there is collision as far as I know. For mobs, that's a good question. I don't see an answer on the wiki. At least right now it doesn't appear to be present on Alpha 1.

I know the gathering thing with the glowey stuff is temporary. but do they plan on making it so every tree is gatherable like new world?

It would indeed be great if very tree was gatherable because it doesn't make sense if you could chop one tree down and not its neighbouring tree if it looks exactly the same. But then how would the crafting work if everyone chops down every single tree, now everyone has a booty load of wood. Would the wood quantity required for crafting things increase or decrease. Maybe it's better if grouped trees are cut down and the others unable just to keep the world aesthetics pleasant

So my question would be, would the quantity of crafting components change due to how much we can gather of that certain material?

I have a few concerns with pre-order packs. First off I understand they are FOMO (fear of missing out) in nature, and I'm ok with that, but this leads to a bigger concern of mine is what if I like the next pack better? So far my favorite pack has been Sep2020-Oct2020 (ember fox set) but due to everything going on in life. I couldn't afford to get the Voyager pre-order pack. Now, almost a year later, I have the ability to afford a pre-order pack but I am not really interested in any that has come up. So I'm not making a purchase. And as it stands now I probably will not make a purchase because I keep wondering what if I like the next one better and will they make anything better than my favorite one that I already missed?

Would Intrepid Studios consider the idea for Pre-order tickets? Such that if you bought the Voyager pre-order pack you could redeem the ticket for any of that levels rewards. A pre-order npc could be added to go to to redeem these rewards at the start of the game as well. This would promote more people to purchase pre-order packs, since they can choose their favorite pack, prevent buyers remorse from seeing a pack they like more appearing after purchase, and eliminate the FOMO aspects of the current model, all while preserving the exclusive nature of the packs that was talked about in one of the dev talks.

That is not how the system is envisioned. I don't want to turn this into a discussion. If you leave the game for any period of time, you may have progression lost. Simple. You will not lose completed goods, decor, and currency as others have pointed out. The weight vs volume system is still under consideration by them and we have no final answer. But currency will have no weight and does not need to be stored in a bank confirmed.

There isn't really any challenge to it, in dungeons it's quite easy to kill people this way.

Really should be that if a mob kills you in the same string of combat where you were significantly damaged by a player, it would give credit to the killer and count as a player kill. Hope they make it so later on. (Edit: Ah dang this is question chat. My bad.)

My thoughts exactly. Not liking the combat, and the world is puny in comparison to Ashes. I honestly prefer current Ashes appearance to current New World. Most Ashes screenshots are out in the open sun, whereas New World is darker, which highlights lighting effects. Go to dark areas in Ashes, and it looks nice.

Yes, the New World combat feels like a very watered down version of Assassins Creed's combat. I like that a lot of the environment can be gathered as a resource, I think this is better than AoC alpha at the moment (Why can I only chop down certain trees?). I am kind of disappointed by the crafting so far, but maybe it's because it's low level stuff at the moment, and it gets better for higher level crafting.

I think if you take any wildly anticipated game release of the last few years, they all had deadlines, which were pushed further up each time it got to release date and still the games released due to the community pressuring for the release and then the game came out with bad graphics, bugs, poor servers, etc. This was a thing before Covid as well, so I don;t mind there not being any fixed deadlines, but they are still making very good progress and this first alpha 1 week showed it

ashes is only around half way through development right now, at least thats what most community members think given most AAA mmos take around 7 years to make, and ashes had around 10 staff for a while, which is now moreso around 100, and has been in development around 4 years now, so making an exsact date would be foolish for something so far down the line and so many unknowns happen with such a long span that usually making a specific date would lead to them either finishing way before, not finishing it in time, or making the staff work through crunch, which steven doesnt really want to do

this isnt really an average marketing alpha where they release the alpha like 2 months before the beta, and then the game a few weeks after that, it still has quite the long way to go

its all mostly arbitrary, its really just follows the defition of what the dev team wants it to, but usually an alpha build means they got the game working, and they need to test the core systems and back end, to make sure it stays stable, and beta means they need to test the content, balance, and gameplay, etc, open before the alpha or beta means anyone can just download the game and play, its open to everyone, closed means you need a key and the number of players that can download and play is limited

So first of all there won't be an "open beta" for Ashes. Every test phase is buy-in only. As for the phases themselves, Alpha testing is for implementing the base functions and testing back-end performance. Once everything is implemented we enter beta testing which focuses on balancing and fine-tuning everything so that it works as intended. Hope that helps 🙂

For your second question, presumably players could push each other around with collision, but I don't know that a river could necessarily "sweep them away" as there are no currents that move players at this time. Thank you for the reply. The current mechanic was an example, you could do that in Archeage for instance. Or another example is pushing a player off a cliff or into a vehicle.

Not that I'm condoning griefing or anything, but it just adds more immersion/ interactivity to the game when you can interact with the environment like that versus it just being a static map.

I seems like to me that once a company goes public that it slowly starts to just get rotted from the inside from a shifting of priorities and so on. Has Steven stated his opinion or intent about this before?

We don't have a lot of details on the crafting professions yet. Stay tuned for more information in the future 🙂

I think it's to do with map making, revealing locations for dungeons and stuff to players who haven't yet explored that area. Should be useful seeing how massive the final map will be.
