I would also look to just about any other mmo in the industry that has a sub. WoW or ESO or any of the others. You buy a 6 months sub, start it, and it runs for the 6 months till done. I can't think of a single one that allows you to stop after two months, go away, then come back later, and use the remaining 4 months. But hey, maybe Intrepid will be the first.

I'd say players are encouraged to at least try to monopolize a resource, but there are lots of things in place to stop them from doing that. Probably the most likely thing to be monopolized would be something like crafting mats from raid bosses, all the raiders on your server come together and make some sort of pact not to sell them to non-raiders. Non-raiders could still get the stuff through pvping the raiders as they leave the raid, or getting the odd bits of it through caravans or node sieges that haven't been processed into completed items yet. If enough people get mad about the system going on they could also put together their own raid clearing group and finance it through selling raiding mats to the rest of the server, some of the main raiders cheat on the pact to pocket extra gold, etc.

So there is supposed to be a cooldown for attacking nodes, like if you attack a metropolis and fail you can't attack it for 50 days. Is that cooldown for every guild/node that attacks it or just for the players who attacked it? Because I could see potential on paying other guilds to attack them and fail on purpose so they get a 50 day shield for their mats

So in theory yes, if multiple guilds gather their strenght and ressources they could periodicaly siege a node until it is destroyed. But we are talking about gamers if an mmo game... cooperation is rare
Once a siege is declared, any players can participate in the defense/attack of the node. Citizen of the node are automaticaly sent as defenders
I dont know about a cooldown between sieges, but a periode of siege preperation (2-5 days) will start once the siege is declared depending on the node stage.
Node becoming a stage 3 have a 21 days siege protection on it.
It is a total on one month protection. One week while the government is formed and 21 days after the first mayor election
The cooldown between sieges only applys after a successful defense and is 10x the declaration period. So for a level 3 node which has a 2 day declaration, 20 days after defense. There is no reason for it after a loss, since the node is reduced to zero. People may try to game the system to protect their resources, but then find out they paid all that for the siege declaration, only to have people they do not control join in and raze them.

Most guild groups rarely function beyond a raid group size of players. Trying to get thousands of people to do what you want would indeed be an epic achievement.

If you're asking if you'll do "combos" like in BDO where you have to press buttons in a certain order to use spells then no. It's simply you have a hotbar and you put your spells on that hotbar and press whatever keybinds you set

FF14 doesn't have combos like BDO has. In BDO it's like a fighting game where you need to press buttons in a certain order to cast spells
Simply having 1 spell that works off another spell or something like Ninjas ninjutsu isn't comparable to BDO

Those systems are very easy to put into place and test so i don't feel like we will see a final form of tracking such as node government and such until later stages after the core systems are put into place and working as intended.
I also don't believe that steven has liked the idea of tracking node development so that way people dont drop a node and leave it in the dust for a node that is about to be level X over the rest of the nodes and probably many other reasons.
Question, I found out about AoC a little over a year ago. I was curious, I know they used Apocalypse as a test for their engines/combat, were there any plans to bring that back in the future? Feel like they've gained a lot of traction over the last year, I think a relaunch even for testing would be more popular than the first.

APOC will most likely not be coming back because they used that as a testng phase to allow the Alpha tests to run a lot smoother, which since the Alpha-1 is currenty in testing and is able to be tested in APOC has no use.

Instead of them "popping in and out of existence" could you have them fade into and out of existence/the "ether"?
Also, it'd be awesome to have some mounts which fight with you and had an option to "stake" them to a spot if you're just grabbing loot or something and then jumping right back on.
Lastly - please do something with the winged creatures, they look ridiculous running around with their wings out, could they have them folded at their sides or something?

I agree with you @golden ferry the mounts lack animation and physic reality, but dont forget for now the priorities are more around the core of the game. Those ideas may be more discussable around the beta phase where the combat, classes, metropolis, ships and so on are completed.
@golden ferry Steven mentioned in a recent stream that mounts will be able to stay in the world and follow you around
Combat pets will be able to fight with you, mounts will have their own abilities when mounted

Im really sorry to bother you, i cant seem to chat in the discord idk why, non the less i see you can purchase a pack to get into alpha one, tho the package i bought long ago only got me cosmetics and access to alpha two. Is there any way to change that to alpha one or would i have to buy a new pack purely for that purpose? 
You can upgrade your current pack to the alpha one pack and just pay the difference
so if you bought the $250 Alpha 2 pack you can pay $250 to upgrade to the Alpha one pack
If you bought the $375 Alpha 2 pack you can pay $125 to upgrade

If you log onto the store with the relevant account it will show your upgrade options
Click on Inventory and look for where it says Voyager or Voyager Plus
You most likely bought the Voyager Plus if you spent $425, so you should be able to upgrade for around $125 + VAT
If you want access to Alpha 1 testing you'll need to upgrade to the Adventurer pack, which you can do from the Intrepid store

Keep in mind the game is many years away from release. It is not a complete game. You are purchasing access to a true alpha not an early access, head start or pre-release.
Fair enough. It's a lot of money and it's good to set people's expectations before they spend it.

Odds are it will be. Lex has always gone off the rule that it has to be a publicly stated quote by Steven (or other gold name) to even pass the sniff test to add to the wiki. There have been several instances where things have been changed under NDA or talked about in meetings there, but don't/can't make it in because they have never been released. With the fluid nature of testing atm, if some things are not updated speedily enough for you, consider volunteering your time to help with the wiki.

I was just wondering, as I look into other stuff. Issue is you have people who post cuts of Old Streams as 'leaked footage' even though its Steven is in the vid.

I dont think u know what I'm saying, politely, let's say my freehold was right outside the gate of five, then it turned into a six which we know makes it into a bigger kingdom, meaning my land would be consumed by the expansion. Ik that for u to be a freehold the node has to be a 3 or higher but I'm pretty much asking if and when it becomes a 3 is the freehold areas u can buy already at a 6 standard

Depends on how many players have headstart in their region, NA won't be a problem since everyone there speaks english. Okay imagine there are 4 german servers (I know that nobody enforces language but if they are labeled as german 99% of german will join those servers). Lets say 1k of german players have Headstart. 1 of the server is for headstarters and 3 are not. On release why would you join a server with headstart players instead of joining a normal server. The headstart server will stay at 1k players and maybe get 1k more because some dont know its headstart. Do you understand what I mean @simple ether

@crystal beacon There is a simple solution at launch for that. They won't open additional servers until ALL servers are approaching capacity, including HS servers.

Players who join the game a week or more after launch don’t care if they’re on a server that had one more day. Especially if those players couldn’t level a node. We encourage you to make a forum post if you want to voice your ideas on how they can improve their current approach though

How does dying work? I know once you die you drop some of your gatherables, do you turn into a skeleton or is your body left behind? How long is it left there? Can you loot your own dead body to get back the gatherables if they didn't loot you? Will bodies be littered in the dungeon? ex. I walk into a room and it filled with dead player bodies letting me know something big happened here. Can only the person who killed you loot you? Or can I have a friend quickly auto loot my body fast like so they don't get anything and run?

You can’t change your primary archetype but you can change your secondary archetype the class is a combination of the two
jist that goes is you have 8 main classes here. choose one at start and locked into that. after level 25 you can choose one of the 8 classes again (even the same class to double up) and have the ability to switch again later.

There are two types of enchantments for items: Vertical and horizontal.
Vertical enchantments are a power progression for a crafted item. More damage or mitigations, added effects or bonuses. Vertical enchantments include risks. There isn't RNG in crafting but there may be a small amount of RNG in enchanting.

@crystal beacon everything regarding that is on the wiki (link above) but to answer you directly, it depends on the kind of enchanting. There is vertical and horizontal. Vertical affects stats on crafted items (like +damage, etc.). Horizontal enchanting affects the damage type (in example, sword does frost damage enchanting it now it does fire damage instead) stuff like that

It will also depend (Potentially since stuff can change, we wont know yet) on how many skill points the guild decides to put into Size rather than augments or passive buffs, so you can be an optimized small-medium sized guild or a very large guild with minimal augments/passives. It will be a choice on if the buffs are worth it

A2 servers will run at the same time as beta servers and people with access to A2 can choose to play on either. B1/B2 servers are not up 24/7

No word on that. Dual wielding is obviously a thing but wether you HAVE to carry an offhand weapon to be effective is unknown. For that to be viable they would need to add a single handed buff or dual weapon penalty similar to DND. So too early basically

There are the starting areas for each race, but they're not cities, just areas where each race starts (though a human doesn't have to start in the human starting area, they can opt to spawn at the elf starting area for example)
So to answer your question, no, there aren't any premade cities
Maybe there will be like ruins of a city from before the apocalypse

I've seen a video where it said that mounts will be physical items in your inventory, whereas they return to your inventory when not used. Which is really inconvenient, especially if your inventory is full of stuff.
Will that change? Or did it change?
Will we have a special mount tab or something to help us keep track of our mounts and not accidentally delete or lose our mounts from inventory?
Right now they are a permanent item, when you use them they are still present as that item @lusty lichen

Curiosity question. Let say I am a Cleric out in the world, doing cleric-y stuff, and some jabroni decides to attack me (and I can't be bothered engaging them) would I be flagged as a combatant if I heal myself while pissing off to some other area?
Currently no, but that's still subject to change once they start testing the corruption/world pvp system a bit more
They will likely have at least rarity, though currently this has not been a focus of testing just yet. None of it is set in stone just yet. There is a lot of talk about their concepts for items, but the actuality will change drastically many times between now and final items.
Sorry if that's a vague answer, but on their concepts it seems as though there will be rare limited resources that will make some of the best gear. Whether this uses monster drops with rare harvested resources or if they are drops I do not believe has been set in stone yet
Context of why a mount tab probably doesn't make sense for AoC, multiples of the 'same' mount can have different stats from each other. One Chestnut Horse might be faster and have a better turn speed while the other Chestnut Horse might have more HP.
Would that not be fixed by simply having a drop down menu on said chestnut horse?
Depends on what you think 'fixed' means. Getting past things like limiting the numbers of copies of a mount, you get into stuff like always having access to the perfect mount for the perfect situation (switch that fast overland move speed mount to the high vaulting mount to take a shortcut then switch to the high hp mount to run through the dangerous mobs, and then the tight turn speed mount to take the windy path easier) without the consequence of having your bag stuffed with mounts, so you'd probably then need to add on more systems, like limiting how fast you can switch mounts with a cooldown or something.
@restive crag the reason mounts need to take up inventory space is because they are tradable items from the animal husbandry

They are different based on the breeder
There will probably be some of a particular mount that are objectively better stat wise, but there also probably won't be 'perfect' mounts, so both.

Yeah I thought I had heard that better breeder = better mount. And also how they breed. That I think was the cool draw about setting up your own stalls and shops is if I become a master breeder that can breed mounts better than anyone else then people would seek out my shop over others.
At one point they even mentioned having a franchisee system where someone could open one of my breeding shops and get the advantages of my breeding skill without having the skill level themselves. Then I would keep a segment of the income. That was a long time ago though so who knows if it will make it to game 🙂

Sorry if this has been asked in the past, but will the currency for the in game shop (the coins you get with any of the bundles) be able to be obtained by means of any in game activities or will they only be obtainable through a purchase? If so will players be able to use these coins to pay for a monthly subscription to the game if they're adamant about saving them so as to make their subscription essentially free? I don't play WOW but I know it has a similar system, which I personally think is a great touch for those that maybe to save a few bucks will grind out something like this. Thanks in advance.

With the announcement of UE5 and Epic Games stipulating that UE4 projects will be portable to UE5, will upgrading Ashes of Creation to UE5 be considered in any way or is it an unrealistic goal at this point in time?
Mage and Rouge would be quite strong id imagine. as would anything with high alpha smack damage, or ranged DPS with CC

Supposedly archetypes are not balanxed against each other. So there will be certain archetypes wich are stronger against some and weaker against others

They will look into it but no promises, They have a lot of their own back end code that would not be an easy port
And honestly, the amount of sheer power you would probably need to run those UE5 games would be a huge barrier to entry for many players
Remember that they could scale things down and that by the time this is released: rtx 3000s will probably be the bare minimum (as min rec graphics will be those 5 years old from release)
So here's another animal husbandry question; I remember either reading or hearing on a podcast that with animal husbandry you can breed new species into existence. So the question is this, say I were to breed a Liger into the game, would new mobs begin to pop up over time to reflect the more unique species bred into the game?
So far lifeskill animal husbandry affecting world manager spawn tables has not been mentioned.

Hello! Here's a question, what happens if more than 500 (250v250) people join a node war of a castle siege? Are spots going to be limited? Or is it open world and in theory any number of players can join?
Thats a question ive wondered for a while. They are SUPPOSED to be open world, but having more than 250v250 (or 500v500 if they pull that off) should then be possible sincec they dont have phasing. So I have no clue how that is the limit

for castle sieges and node sieges, players will have to register and only those that are registered can take part in the fight

I believe the initial plan is to have both types of sieges in the open world. Node Sieges will surely be in the open world. Castle Sieges should be in the open world as well, but they're still exploring how to handle the blocking of non-participants from getting into the battlefield.

if they can, maybe but theyve done a lot of custom work to UE4 that may just be too much of a bother to port over

Hey so I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked: are they planning on making classes with tank as their secondary archetype viable as main tanks in top tier content? For example, could I be the main tank of a Max difficulty raid as a shadow guardian? I’d ask the same question for cleric as well. The reason is because I think a necromancer being the main healer of a raiding party would be pretty unique

with tank builds being evasion, control or shield. i would imagine going control tank secondary would be most viable as you could let a primary tank take the hits while you stand back and use crowd control. that's just a theory tho
I have a question, will it be possible to obtain a new class that not anyone has? for example after doing a bunch of quest chains that take a long time months per say and as a reward u get close to a story that allows you to obtain a legendary class, or an epic class or a unique class that no one else has ? for example a black smith not as a profession but as a whole class and you can make legendary items and wear whatever equipment you can, or an aura master to control aura, or a sword saint, or a copy class, that copies skills and stores them

you can choose augment combinations from race, religion, secondary, etc that can make your build very unique
Don't quote me on it but I don't see this being a thing. With the way the classes are setup right now where you have your primary then you can pick between secondaries. and to lock a whole class behind a quest I just dont see them doing that.

They have said at least twice that there will not be a "hidden class" a la jedi in SWG. There may be hidden augments to secondary class that people find.
I think it will be very interesting what people do with all the choice in builds. I guarantee there will be those who excel at theory crafting who will find the most optimized build and share it for the masses to gravitate to. I hope there will be much more diversity in build choice then having to be the 'meta' build to accomplish anything serious
Yeah that would be very intriguing to watch, we always saw people create and discover new things and new elements in all of the past games, and 64 double classes seem like a good idea yet, so in 64 people each one will be unique in his own way so thats thrilling , thank you for the answers people

Well there's gear enchanting with the ability to "overenchant" your gear. You can safely enchant your gear to a certain level but if you try and enchant over that level you run the risk of destroying your gear, so some people will have better gear because they got lucky and took the risk with overenchanting.
Then there's legendary and legendary unique gear and the legendary unique gear there will be very very very little of it on the server, so some people will have gear that other people literally cannot get and is slightly more powerful than the other players because ofi t

By buying one of the packages which contains Beta access
There might be Beta key giveaways as well in the future.
And certain Kickstarter packages have beta keys to gift, and official content creators are meant to be given some to pass out later.

The Scholar/Thieves'/Trader are all social organizations inside of the game totally separate from guilds in the game which will be player driven

is game time offered in the pre order packages continuous for example the game comes out and I have 11 months of game time. If I start playing on the first month its released do I have to play the following 11 months in a row? Or can I spread those months out?
I would assume it would be as long as you have an account with Intrepid, so once the game time subscription fee starts to incur on members it will start your XX months of game time from the packs 👍
Intrepid intends to let you choose when to start the sub after launch (subject to change)

They have never clarified either way. They have had multiple people ask that, and the answer has always been "Let me check on that". But if you look at any other mmo in the gaming space that has a sub, whether f2p with 'optional' or more 'traditional' like WoW or FF14, no one allows you to have multiple month sub, and then start and stop it as you like.

Hi all! Just saw the early siege video and had a couple of questions. Is that npc they talk to to get out of/into the throne room gonna be there in the final version, or will it be destructible gates like the outer wall? Will there be a spell/item/mechanic to repair said gates if they are damaged/destroyed? Once the attackers capture a point, is it possible for the defenders to recapture/back cap other points?

The NPCs are there only for the defenders to get past the gates while the Attackers need to destroy it to get to the next level. We will not know anything about final siege mechanics until further testing is done so anything we do know is on the wiki if it is not under NDA. The attacker/defender capturing points are also under constant reconsideration and will have numerous spot tests before the final iteration is put into place but the full NDA will be lifted soon so you will see videos when that happens
The inner gate is already destroyable u could see it at the end of the footage. Repair was said on stream to be something coming

So, I know it already has been asked but after the development update, I have a doubt on the answers i've read, can we or can we not use any types of weapons and armor whether the cliché of the class is to be with a certain type of equipment (in other term, can i play a fighter / hunter with a shield, or a mage in plate armor)? thx in advance 🙂
Weapons and armour are not class locked, some classes may be more efficient with some weapons than with others tho

on armor specialy does it give certain typs of protection depending on the type of the armor and does it maybe aply debuffs if for example a mage wears a heavy plate armor and the plate armor gives bonuses to physical defense and maybe boost hp insteat of mana from a robe armor, or agility boost on a lether armor?
Cloth armor gives better damage mitigation, heavy armor gives better physical mitigation, medium armor is balanced. Mages are meant to be able to wear plate and tanks can wear cloth to tank magic damage with no problem.
so armor only brings benefits and no disatvatages in terms of the weight of the armor itself, that would effect the players movments. or bringing benefits to HP, Mana and skill dmg or so? so only differs in the defence of dmg types
An individual piece of plate/cloth armor might have stats that increase manga regen and healing done or physical damage and chance for physical crits. Players should still wear the one that is appropriate to them.
Hi, AOC community. I have a question regarding for people like me who travel a lot and play games. For example i create my character in Asia then travel to Europe. Will i be able to switch server from Asia to EU and keep the same character or do i have to start from scratch.
If you want to swap server then you'll have to create a new character
There's nothing stopping you from continuing to play on the EU server even when you're in Asia or vice versa (apart from the ping)
Ping is going to be a big issue tho. Specialy in pvp.
but u will be in a guild problably and play with same peoples. and the servers will be 24/7 on so pvp should still be possible sieges u may miss one or two depending on the primetime of the server. i personaly played a lot pvp games with peoples from japan or usa even if im in europ and ping was bareble with highest at 180 ms. and as time went by it getting better and better
If you are permanently moving, there may be server transfer options available in the future. There will not be at live launch confirmed. If you a just travelling for business a few weeks here, and a few weeks there, you are probably going to have to just suck up the ping.
Will guilds have an option to set a "focus"? (crafting, delving, merchants, seafaring, etc...) if so will there be guild perks to specifically boost those focuses? (I've seen that guild size will affect what perks are available). I am wondering if this exists as soft lines to stay in when determining size of guilds. like if your guild wants crafting perks maybe it has to be HUGE.
Population caps on guild size are related to points spent out of the guilds total when leveling. If they go for large size, they will forego other possible bonuses. They type and impact of those benefits have not been clarified so far.
as far i know is the max boost will be achived if the guild has 50 members if there is a diffrence i dont know
I saw (what might just be a rumor) deep in some forums a while back about buff stacking... Will siege battles have "coven mechanics"? like say you are playing a summoner who can summon a big ugly monster, and you get together 7 other summoner friends to form a "coven" during a siege. Together, the 8 of you could summon a big ugly monster that is Godzilla sized to go attack the enemy stronghold. Is this just a rumor?
while not godzilla sized group summons are a thing

well i guess some sort of goupe healing or buffing might also be a thing but u need to keep in mind on sieges of 200vs200 u cant have to many groupe summonings cause they need defence from allied players and gives the oposit a chance to overpower them
and mostly those will happen in partys of the same guild cause getting random solo players to work on a groupe summoning will be almost impossible
i saw this more of a way for lower level players to join in on the siege if they cant hold their own effectively in the field.. if the party leader is max the rest of the party wouldn't have to be max. but i haven't seen it in action yet so i was curious.
for the control of the golem i guess it will be under the controll of that summoner that initiated the summoning
very fast players will be at level cap like in other games to see that during sieges the majority is maxed only a few are in the field that doesnt have the max level and even less have only half the max level. but 1 dmg is 1 dmg and 1 heal is 1 heal even if its not the strongest it also helps

You can get the help of different guilds to help try and take the Castle
But only 1 guild can be the owners of the castle

so dungeons will be open world right? how will multiple parties of players be able to do the same dungeon at the same time?
By killing the other parties
The dungeons r huge with multiple paths and spots...if there is s1 else who is taking ur mobs/bosses u can ignore them and deal with it or slaugther them.
whats the rough estimation of how long it would take to go from 1-50? It was mentioned a long time ago, but I am not sure
