I think we can expect a Teleportation Rogue to be different than an Ice Rogue but not super different from an Ice Rogue because the Primary Archetype is Rogue and augments are attached to Rogue abilities.
Of course, “super different” is subjective.
I expect the differences will be quite significant. My Feral Druid does not do much healing at all. Which, I believe is significantly different than a Restoration Druid. I don’t know if that counts as super different.
Will it work on specific cc effects separately or together? Meaning stun has its diminishing return, slow has its own, etc. Or will they go all together?
We don't have those details yet. Still being worked on in testing. Just that they don't want the dreaded stun locking or "mezzers"

We knew it was not “flavor only” years before July 2020. And had design details that indicated it wasn’t “flavor only”.
The core components of skills will change but it’s still the skill and you’re still primarily playing the primary archetype.
Which is why I said I expect significant difference - along the lines of Feral Druid v Restoration Druid.
I don’t know that I would categorize that as super different, but some might.

Remembered my question finally yay Alright so the arche type system, still a bit confused on it, namely what happens if you select the same kind as your first. Example, if I go rogue as my main arche type, then when I reach (think it said lvl 25 was when I could select my second one) and I again pick rogue, I become an assassin class... However how would that affect me? An example I've heard used is having a fighter with the mage arche type, this would turn their charge into an instant teleport to the target... But how does picking the same exact class again affect you?

Are pets cosmetics followers or do they benefit you in anyway etc. looting/buffs/atkrs/defenders?
There are combat pets and cosmetic pets. The cosmetic pets are purely cosmetic and just follow you around
combat pets are for pet battles like in WoW
Combat pets do help you in a fight and can take on different roles but at a cost of your own power (I assume that's what they mean by sacrifice) 😄

'Monster coin events' is a slight misnomer - it's really 'events, where players might happen to use a monster coin' - The events will run with just NPC attackers if there are no monster players. These are just called 'events' by the devs, but the term is probably a bit generic so the player base tends to call them monster coin events so people don't go 'what kind of event'

My understanding is that the "corruption area" is a poi in certain nodes. That as the node develops, it grows, just like a Nikua npc port poi may grow in a node as it advances. Will it have questgivers, interactable npcs, and other media? Maybe. Has yet to be clarified. Does it expand in area? Probably not, since Steven has talked about the verticality of things like freeholds and others as they advance. In that they expand upwards, not outwards as they advance.
Corrupted areas can dynamically evolve with the progression of a node. If left unchecked the corruption can spread.
Yes, the question is, does that mean the original area gets larger in size. Or do more of those corrupted poi areas appear in other parts of the map. But this becomes more theorycrafting than answers till clarification is given.

No. You only gain skills from your primary archetype (the one you choose when you first make the character). Your secondary class only provides you with augments that change your existing skills, but don't add any new ones

I know that items can't be sold on a global auction house unless it's through a level 6 economic node... what happens in this scenario... I travel across the land stopping at different cities and list items I've gathered along the way at several of those cities ... does my currency automatically go into my account or do I need to return to those cities to collect.

@rapid fossil @short pier "Full loot PvP" tends to refer to games where you drop everything you have on you upon death. Ashes doesn't do this, instead you drop a portion of the gatherables you're carrying and if corrupted you have a chance to drop gear, with the chance being higher the more corrupted you are

End of A1 = All 8 Archetypes up to level 20 is the plan
A2 is where the class system gets implemented, so you'll probably see them slowly add the 64 classes in during A2

So with MMO's one of the things that can get me into a game is the story. If there is a good story dynamic, especially with how its shown in game, I will be attached and want to learn more. Its what drives me to play and see through the world. There are some games that do most of their story telling through books or cutscenes on youtube.
My question is: Will ashes of creation have a dynamic story for us lore nerds to follow and get immersed in? With cutscenes during important moments in story progression and so forth. This all being in the final product once it is released of course.

There are supposed to be story arcs and questlines. How dynamic those are atm i cannot say.
as far as the MQL progression and player progression, do we know how strongly the main quest line will influence xp gain? will it be similar to FFXIV where the MQL gives you a ton of xp, or will it be more like BDO where the MQL almost doesn't matter?
Also, do we know how xp gain will be balanced between questing, crafting, grinding, and pvp?

It's too early to say how close they will be balance wise but it's pretty clear the intent is to balance them to an extent, seeing as they have described leveling up in various ways whilst contributing to your node

No, you need to be in a designated area like a town or freehold. They want your choices before you head out for the day to matter. No swapping specs down deep in the dungeon.

Changing the augmentations on your skills will require you to go to a NPC in a Village node or higher.

it sounded like in order to master the animal husbandry skill line you NEED a freehold node with an animal pen as part of it... i dunno if that's the correlation. but i'm guessing you read that aswell

Well, in EU we pay the displayed cost + additional VAT which isn't displayed with the shop price. So a $25 item might cost $29 or something. I don't get what you're asking with "do you get cosmetics from the alpha 1 package". The original $500 pack on the store had the exact same cosmetic types as the Voyager Plus pack currently has

The intention is to limit the access that bad actors and those that want to pervert their intentions toward things like "data mining" have access to. Limiting or outright just not giving an API helps with that.

guys.... hats off to the dev's in creating unique ways to tackle the sure zerging guilds. i'm very happy with what i'm reading! = )
i don't see any negative repercussions to doing that yet @modern fern but i'd hope that there are many unlockable perks within a guild that makes it so just having the name means little to nothing.
So there are a FEW things that help against this:
1: The alliance system only supports 4 guilds at a time so it will be more difficult to run a large number of guilds
2: Castles can not be shared so it will be harder for seperated guilds to operate them
3: Large number of smaller guilds means more nodes needed to get the guild bonuses from those nodes meaning the total group needs to spead out thinner.

Yes u do need to lvl the proffesion but making a lvl 50 weapon while u are a lvl 10 cleric with a master lvl weapon smith i should be fine,, that was thw question
player level xp and the xp from crafting is not necessarily tied together.. as in crafting xp does not necessarily give lvl xp just profession... a lot about the crafting has not been covered yet and they will reveal more I am sure as the alphas progress and systems are tested 🙂

Will there be any instanced area, or everything is planned to be open world expirience? I wonder if there will be some kind of rated arenas or battlegrounds with objectives in it, that is instanced and you have to gather your party and q up with mmr systems and so on?
There will be both arenas and battlegrounds that are instanced. Dungeons and raids will be around 20% instanced and 80% open world, so plenty of those too.

@wanton kelp battlegrounds are not instanced. Btw, in AoC, Node Sieges and Castle Sieges are battlegrounds and open world.
So this question takes a bit of set up to explain...In World of Warcraft the Vulpera playable race got a racial ability that allows them to place a camp down every hour as a secondary bind point to return to via a spell called return to camp...So the actual question is, will there be a method of placing an actual camp in world in AoC? Honestly having the ability to place a camp in-game (for x amount of time) as a permanent item so you don't have to continually repurchase it, would be so wonderful for RP, or even just being able to have a bit of immersion while you're out questing.
Players will be able to place down shops in the open world from which they can sell items. Not sure what other functionality they will have, but there will at least be that @burnt mist
I haven't heard of a portable camp that you can deploy close to questing locations or whereever you want to (would be nice tho!). Gear will have appearance slots (Transmutation/Transmog/cosmetic slots) that are used to copy the appearance of an item (in some cases).

Cleric will always be the main healer most likely. Summoner is a jack of all trades class and from what we know can kind of heal/tank/damage
But you will not be healing as like a Fighter/Cleric or Mage/Cleric or Rogue/Cleric for example because that's not how the class system works

All depends on their definition of prime time. In television and radio broadcasting, the time of day when the largest number of people are watching or listening.
You will not have a 2am prime time if your IRL timezone is CA and the server you are playing on is working on a CA timezone, I believe steven noted that since you can choose the region you want to play in that will influence to "prime time" of your server (i.e., I choose to play on an EU server so prime time for EST may be 2am)

The Prime time cannot be predicted on any server, there is the logical Prime time buts that's all after that it comes out to players play time and gaming habits

So because someone brought up addons recently, it got me thinking...In several other MMOs there are addons for RPers to fill out their character sheets with names, titles, race, gender, eye color, notable markings (scars and tattoos), alignments, and so on down the last minute detail you want to give your character...So since addons won't be a thing will there be consideration for RPers with a window extension on the character sheet to fill in such information if we so choose?

We don't know, but there will be plenty of notice given before they are removed

Have there been any talks about how the classes in the game are going to be balanced? Automation? The automation would be tuned so each class has its own biases, to avoid making the classes too bland relative to each other. This code should be opensource, like Simulationcraft, but actually useful for the game devs.
This would be a step in the right direction like CDPR releasing tools for modding. Not that we are going to have addons on AoC, just an example of a situation where game devs work closely with opensource communities.
This is something WoW doesn't have, and it has been a problem since the beginning of the game.
the only thing ive heard regarding class balance is that its not being balanced around 1v1 but rather group balance
@pseudo onyx Classes in Ashes will be balanced (manually by the devs I assume) around group gameplay, not 1v1s. I have no idea how Intrepid are going to achieve this so we'll have to wait and see. For the rest, that sounds like a discussion for the #aoc-discussion channel
"manually" doesn't mean anything by itself, I am sure they will have some internal tools for these efforts; however, it is known that opensource fines the best solution. Opensource tools are emergent in games that are successful; moreover, I have never seen a company refering to the use of these community driven developments being utilized by the game devs.
Working closely simply means, collaborating. Being the owners of the git repository right. This would require Intrepid to do the initial work, but the open source community would take it from there. https://github.com/simulationcraft/simc, is a stellar example. WoW didn't have this tool in the beginning, AoC should.
This is definitely a Data Science problem, and it should be treated as complex.

You could message her. Things like legacy tags however from previous testing and such are no longer given if you change your Discord account from last information I have seen. If you require tags to access channels as part of your account access, those are provided.

They said Freeholds can’t be placed within the area a city could grow into a Metro. As for one freehold to the next they didn’t give an exact number. Maybe their early videos with multiple freeholds gives an idea of what they are thinking but that’s speculation
This was addressed. The possible footprint of a node settlement at metro level is taken into account for placement permissions by the system.
The problem is that people use node, node settlement, and zoi in different ways when trying to make things fit in their mental image.

To transfer goods you have to either run with the goods in your inventory or use a caravan/mule

I think you'll need to wait to see exactly the kind of things you can actually send, but from what I understand you can't send anything that undermines the travelling / caravan system of the game

i know this is a odd question and maybe not relevant until polishing phase but in which way will Weapon be sheathed. Will the just port on the back or will there be animation and special ways too hold certain weapon groups like spear just casually flung on the shoulder, greatsword held in hand rather than back like it was often done back in the days. Just a question that came through my mind while playing outward which has those and it feels and looks great.

I have been debating buying the 375 preorder pack but im not sure what the name reservation means does it mean you just get to pick your name before launch and no one can take it or do you get like a reserved spot on the servers on launch day?
It means you can reserve 1 name for a character on a single server so no one can take it

how will the stealth work, I have seen that vid where it seems it is more of a translucent camo than hard invisibility like in most games, how will that work with tab targeting / action tough, like can you tab target something behind you before turning or focusing your cam on it before player gets in that effective distance?
The current plan for Stealth is for it to be more like a Camo, similar to how it works in Halo for example. It is not supposed to be True Invisibility

If you upgrade you get all the package perks you upgrade to. They have said that if they ever remove the ability to upgrade they will give plenty of notice.

Yes, a very early crafting system will be in A1, but according to one of the last streams itll be 10-20% of the final Artisan System that contains of a lot of different pillars.

The server reservations are a separate thing from name reservations. The server reservations seem open to everyone (No exact details on how that'll work).
name reservation is basically you can lock a name on a server before launch so no one else can make a character with that name on that server

The goal of the server reservations is to make sure guilds/groups of friends can organize playing together, without some of them being locked out from a server if the servers population fills after launch (preventing new people from joining that particular server).

Intrepid definitely likes non-monetary support in the form of video likes/shares/retweets. They've asked the community a couple of times to forward talented developers to their hiring pages. If your interested various community websites are looking for various forms of assistance (article writers/translators/etc). The pre-order packs are currently the only way to give Intrepid money and get something for it. Intrepid had a merch store for a while, but they've placed that on hold for now.
Oh and Intrepid asks for community feedback/recommendations, the forums tend to be a good place to put that.

No. There are constant wipes of your characters during the alpha phases
For example, one test you may have your character, and then the next test your character may be permanently deleted and you'll need to make a new one

Damn so i have a few questions.
- When relating to PvP, will there be a Black Desert Online-esk system whereby players can use abilities to protect themselves from CC with something like Superarmor (protected from cc but dmg decreases hp) and frontguard (cc and dmg is blocked)?
- We've seen some aspects of the tank archtype and those skills, many of the animations are either rooted in place or have a forward component to them. Is there thought being put into skills which have the potential to move your character backwards/side-to-side allowing you to chain chills to achieve engages, disengages, combos, ect.?
- with the tanks charge ability, is that something that will be strictly in a straight line or would you be able to camera turn it during the animation. I suppose this question extends to the majority of any movement abilities...

- We don't know. The only abilities we know about are the ones that we've seen in the Archetype videos.
- Every spell/animation you see is either placeholder or a work in progress. Most spells won't lock you in place (although there'll be some that will as a kind of risk v reward)
- It's a tab ability so it's a "run in a straight line at whoever you tabbed onto" ability.

Just making sure, but when the A1 comes around can we equip the cosmetics we own? And if so, when the server is wiped do you guys have a way to make sure we won't lose them?
In case these are locked on only one character and the server deletes the cosmetics along with it.

Did they just confirm castle sieges in the letter?
Last year, I spoke of attempting to incorporate sieges into the Alpha One experience. This has obviously been a goal of mine because it provides considerable data and a consistent event within the world that players can participate in to help stress test the deployment. Well, I am happy to say that it is appearing more and more likely by the day! Initial implementation of the Apocalypse siege code has been migrated into the Alpha One client, and we should begin internal testing next month. I will caveat this expectation with the fact that we are cutting it a bit close from an internal QA standpoint, but I have some confidence that the system will be online and capable of inclusion for the Alpha One test in the month of June. The siege component will obviously not be representative of what the siege system will be at launch, or even in Alpha Two. I will keep you updated on its progress in our monthly live streams.

I'm curious, after watching the most recent dev update, what kind of npc interactions there will be in hostile areas (i.e bears hunting or hibernating or tigers stalking prey as the tigress' tend to the cubs). It would be very interesting to see enemies actually doing things they would do rather than simply standing around and idling about lying in wait for the slaughter. I understand that some mobs would need to be implemented this, obviously, but it would be very interesting to see something like this being an implementation...

Intrepid will be selling access/upgrade in the shop in May. Access to A1 was sold before but was removed back in 2018. There have been some contest winners (There probably won't be more contests before A1, Halloween and Extra Life tend to be Intrepid's big contest times). Some streamers will get access.

yeah, just based on that being the old price. It's possible Intrepid could assume some of the value has already been used (A1 tests that have already passed) or be uncomfortable with selling A1 access completely stand alone (wanting to bundle it with more gametime or something) affecting it's price either way potentially.

Pre-A1 testing is going on under an NDA, May 14-21 has an upcoming break in the NDA. They will have to have some sort of limit through surly, their current server infrastructure will only be able to handle so much as they are not at full server capacity yet. If they just open it up fully with no limits, what happens if more ppl buy then can be served on the servers?

@crystal beacon according to the newsletter, you will be able to upgrade. It's as simple as going to the Intrepid store, logging in and making the purchase. They already have the upgrades automatically assigned to your store currently for upgrades from Beta to alpha 2 ... I'm confident it would function the same way
