If you googled Ashes of Creation Alpha Two as you claim there is no way you could have been let to the conclusion that it is live now. The first result of exactly this search will give you this: https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Alpha-2 as the first result. If you scroll down it clearly says that there is no known date for Alpha two. If you look at the Alpha 1 entry, which Voyager sadly does not give access to, you can see that this has not even begun yet, but is scheduled for pre-test 1 under NDA from Dec. 18-21. 🙂 Hope this helps! I could also imagine that you could potentially be held back twice. Imagine that one node beats you to level 5, so you are capped at level 4. The level 5 node advances to level 6, so you are free to develop to level 5, only to be pipped to the post again by a different node. It all depends on node spacing.

Will there be different types of sieges perhaps based on the location of node? For example could it also be possible to siege a node by water with ships if the node is along a coastline?
They answered that in a livestream. There are currently no plans for naval supported sieges.
However, coastal nodes will have a dock area that might be an objective point.

After learning about the Artisan Classes I've been thinking, what would happen in the event that there's too much of a number disparity among those who specialize in one of the 3 crafting professions?
Like, I have the feeling that there will be tons of master gatherers and crafters, but only 1 or 2 master processors in an entire nod.
Now granted, if the amount of masters of each field is balanced then it will be great, but what if they aren't?

No, only name reservations, but Steven has talked about allowing guilds to reserve server spots to allow a guild to not get separated at launch. There hasn't been any detailed information on how it might work though

Spell and ability use seems to be associated with extremely flashy graphics. Will there be the option to use abilities with no SFX (or subdued SFX) so that you can be more stealthy / attract less attention?
@bold bear Alternate SFX exist (There's a set for all KS backers and augments will change SFX of abilities) and presumably some of those would be more subdued than others. There will be a UI option to turn down how you see SFX but that wouldn't affect how other people see yours (unless they've turned down SFX themselves).
The ability to turn them down seems good. In the middle of a congested battle we don't need a kaleidoscope of colors obscuring the screen.
Intrepid will also be able to turn down player character models and skill effects in large pvp battles to reduce rendering load.
In an Economic Node, which grants mayor status to the highest bidder, what stops the mayor from setting easy quests with high rewards (tax payers money!) that he and his cronies are immediately ready to fulfil. i.e. this is akin to a politician awarding juicy contracts to their favorite contractors in return for a backhander. The money is then used to keep the mayor in power month after month.
We don't have enough information on how mayors will do quests yet to answer that. There will be a lot of people in a Node, so its unlikely that only a Mayors friends/guildmates will be able to benefit.

Well a mayor of a node could send a bounty on raider who destroyed their caravan and an extra for the loot stolen
So if you join a caravan to defend it do you automatically become a combatant? I guess yes, otherwise someone attacking the caravan could become flagged as corrupt.

I imagine that if you witness your caravan being destroyed you would feel a morale obligation to wage a gorilla war against those that took it out. I suppose the correct way to do it is to get your mayor to set a bounty on the caravan attackers.

The only way so far to acquire a "bounty" is to become corrupted. Since caravans do not use the open world flagging system you have no chance of becoming corrupted. If you kill someone who is flagged "green" outside of a "sanctioned" pvp event, then you become corrupted and are eligible to be hunted by bounty hunters.
By "green" do you mean non-combatant?
Correct. The standard that is being used here is green-noncombatant purple-combatant, and red-corrupted. So far from footage shown in released gameplay, those colors seem to be what Intrepid is going with too.

So far yes, those colors are appearing in game. If you look at footage from the May test that was released you can clearly see Steven burn down someone who was afking red inside one of the node settlements. The latest pvp spotlight video shows everyone green in your party/group and everyone on the other side purple.

@barren pasture @wise hare Races will have differing stats, so Human could be the meta for cleric, and Orc for fighter based on racial stats (this is for minmaxing). Races will also have racial augments effecting how abilities work and applying cosmetic effects.

You keep whatever skins you got from the old pack, and gain the upgrade/exclusive skins from the current month
So, if you buy the $75 pack in September, then upgrade to the $150 pack in November, you'll end up with the Accessory from September and the pet from November

Monster coin events are not instanced. And do not occur during sieges or siege declarations. They are random events, server controlled, not player initiated. This has been addressed in livestreams and Q&As a few different times. It will be fully tested to work out any workarounds, kinks, and cheesing.
Possible impact of Monster coin event is they can disable certain buildings, services and NPCs within a node. Also: monster coins are purchasable from the cosmetic store.

Monster coins enable players to play as monsters within the event system. This ranges from playing friends as a horde of zombies, to becoming a massive dragon.
Sometimes the disturbed beings could take the form of packs of dire wolves, hordes of zombies roused from their graveyard, or even, rarely, an epic-tier dragon flying out of a volcano onc...
Yes i've read the wiki. But for example if i want to hinder a specific node for whatever reason, i would want some of their buildings/services/NPC's disabled. So if there happens to be a monster event i can buy a coin from the shop and be the biggest tryhard zombie/dragon and hope to screw that node over?
The event will happen regardless of you buying a coin or not so you are not really changing anything
Also, you would not know beforehand what node you are being sent to. So the idea that you would be hindering a specific node to your own benefit makes it moot.

Access is currently paid. They rarely have giveaways. And once the CC program is back up and it approaches that phase, some of them may get beta keys to give away to their followers. But in general, you need to buy a package to participate in testing.

Say if i have 10 "enemy" nodes on the map for whatever incentive/reasoning i have for it. IF any spontaneous monster coin event arrises on one of those 10 nodes, i now have the possibility to buy my way into this event and do my best to negatively influence that specific node
An advantage over some other random player who might have the same incentive vs that node, but this guy doesnt want to spend extra money. I now have a bigger influence on this node cuz i bought a coin from the shop. Is my logic flawed here?
Its like a random snowstorm (monster coin event) is heading towards a town (node). and conveniently i notice that i dislike that specific town, i can now buy something from the shop that makes that storm a little more dangerous
You don't know which node it is. You get a message saying, "monster coin event happening. Que now." The system then matches your coin with available tier and event. Poof, you get teleported to event, participate as the monster till you die or event over, then poof, back to body. I get that you want to poke holes in it, but we have been discussing it for 3 years. Feel free to leave feedback, but as stated above, it will be fully tested and any possible loopholes closed.
Also you won't get the option to attack the node you are a part of, so you won't be "forced" to hinder your node for cosmetic rewards.

How common are monster coins? I'd like it if it was something to reward grinding/spending time ingame, since it offers a massive change to gameplay, and are pretty valueable. I'd hope that they aren't too scarce so that you just need to pray to god if you want to get one in time for a certain event, but that they also aren't common enough that they become worthless.

In case someone relevant sees this, here is the idea:
Scribes can create signboards for businesses to buy and use. Low level signs can only use a base font for text. Higher level signs by higher level scribes can have a larger amount of content on them. Each one will have to be hand drawn, or created as a stamp through a crafting process (printing press) for mass printing. Higher level scribes will be able to have a larger amount of pixel density to size for signs, as well as the ability to use colors. Mayors will be able to force a sign to be taken down and changed, and can change signs to either be auto-approved or to be forced to be manually approved.

@cosmic vale While loot tables and mechanics have yet to be determined, monster coin drops have rarity based on tier, just like other loot. So it might be fairly common to find the low tier ones with the occasional nice drop. The only time we have seen them was the water dungeon footage where they were fighting skeletons a couple years back and the reason they were there was because monster coins were known to be in that dungeon and available to loot. Since they are rabid about not giving the impression of P2W in store sales, you can bet they will be present in game as loot as previously stated, just like statements of parity for cosmetic skins available in game vs the store.

Soo as far as i have been following ashes of creation i have seen 4packs of skins released (the 375$ bundle). How are they planning to make all of them and why do they choose to release them before the game is finished. Won't that make a big hit on the development and manpower if 50 people have to work day and night to make the 300 packs you promised the players. If the project is fully funded, why the need to make new skins before the development is finished?
The pre-order pack cosmetics are done because the players want it. If the players stop buying the cosmetics, Intrepid would stop making them. Also, a lot of the cosmetics will use the same base skin/mesh as elements already planned for the game, so they aren't really digging into development time by making them.

Nah, I just had some ideas that I wanted to provided about each topic. Seeing that they have already talked about the topics I wanted to discuss, means they probably won't bring it back up again.

It was posted earlier than normal and closed earlier due to the holiday weekend. Toast was going to be working on her scheduled days off otherwise to give them the love and attention she always does, so that was the option they went with for this month.
@oak lynx @crystal beacon A1 may become available for purchase again depending on testing need. Steven has stated a couple times that once A1 testing starts if they are not getting the levels of participation they want from the numbers they have already sold, that is an option they may go with.
Will this game have a option to have separate graphics settings for sieges and normal gameplay? I know other games like WoW and BDO do this with similar things to help people that may have performance problems with the large amount of players.
The game will do that automatically, but players will also have an option to tune the graphics setting on their end. In high load situations like sieges, there is a default appearance that will kick in.

For Alpha 2? It really depends on how Alpha 1 goes really. If Alpha 1 goes smoothly, Alpha 2 will arrive faster. If however they find a huge problem in Alpha 1, the other testing phases will be pushed back while they fix the problem.

Has there been any information on how the weapon & armor model philosophy will work in practice? in newer games it has become more of a trend to have a small number of models, but with different numbers and border colors to fit. I have ONE question: In Ashes of Creation will NPCs provide LOS for an NPC I am trying to attack or will I be able to attack the NPC I have tab targeted regardless of whether another NPC happens to come between me and my target? This question alone will make or break whether I decide to give this game a try. I am FED UP with another popular MMO that uses only action based/reticule and not being able to hit my intended target and dying not because of mechanics but because I cannot hit the target I am going for.

I would argue that a proper and refined combat system will make or break an MMO. Combat is in every aspect of the game.
You can choose to have up to 75% of your skills be Tab-target.

I prefer that hard lock combat system over ESO which I currently play and have played since Beta which exclusively uses the Reticule/Action based. I'm sick of missing a target due to NPC LOS and it causing me to fail. I want mechanics to be the challenge NOT the combat system.
that is true as far as we know at the moment.
i don't have a problem with ESO, mobs will just let you hit them so you stand in front of them and swing your sword. xD pretty hard to miss.
There might be a cap of 75% where you cannot choose more skills of that type.
but tab targetting is at least reliable and guarenteed i'll give you that. i know what abilities i can use due to range etc
You're talking about a cleave mechanic. I play Sorcerer and we do not have that luxury. Everything is single target or AOE
then just AOE no aiming required. xD or git gud at aiming. all takes practise.
the AOE isn't enough to take them down. I'm working through the shrinking circle of NPCs that come in and explode in final boss fight of Vateshran Hollows and with the many NPCs running around it makes it a 90% fail rate that I can actually target the one NPC I need to take down to survive the mechanic. I fail not due to not understanding the mechanics but due to the combat system. issues like this are why I want to leave ESO after playing for over six years.

Hard Lock is a solution yes, that already exists in many games such as WoW, SWTOR, etc
Especially while trying to survive game mechanics where you are constantly moving to stay out of AOEs and avoid cleaves. To be able to stay on target while avoiding game mechanics is ideal.

Skills are determined to be tab-target or action by Intrepid. This was addressed by Jeffrey, a skill that starts out tab will always be tab, a skill that starts out action, will always be action. The thinking behind it was that it would give false expectations to people who took a tab fireball, only to find out it was an action ability at tier 2, and then back to tab at tier 3 as an example. Players get to choose which abilities they put points into, giving them a mix of tab and action up to 75/25 either way. With that all said, combat is constantly evolving, and all those previous statements could up being moot.

honestly, I imagine Alpha 1 in 2021, and Alpha 2 Pre Tests to start somewhere around the end of 2021, with it fully launching around the same time next year, then Betas 1&2 launch like, 2-3 months after and we get like a Nov 2023 Release Date. Just my theory

B2P is great for money at the start since everyone buys MMOs at release, but then money dries up after a couple of months because no one is buying it anymore, suddenly they don't have money to develop the game and they have to push out tons of shitty rushed expansions to try and bring in more money
The sub model is the only fair way to do a live service game. It gives the company a set amount of income to create new content. The two most successful MMO's out right now are sub-based (wow and ffxiv) so it seems people agree with the model.

The original plan was for both NA and EU alpha 1 servers, but with them recently splitting from my.games I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't do EU servers yet

Monster coins do come in different levels, with the epic monster events including 'legendary bosses' (figured that was more helpful than my previous answer)

Stats no, guild name appears next to character name above heads, there's an icon to indicate the general type/quality of gear but can't inspect the specifics, some achievements like server first world boss kills / dungeon clears are recorded into in game trophy parks, there will be dungeon/raid leaderboards, and some achievements that come with cosmetics, but I wouldn't expect an armory that displays every achievement ever acquired on the account (The devs want to allow people to avoid having their alts linked together as belonging to the same account, if they want)

Hey peeps, I have a few questions about the sizes of communities.
From the tidbits i saw and read this game will be majorly focussed on the "masses rule"
aka - more people around a node, more node growth, better node defences and so on.
I do like that they don't include guild ruled nodes in this and give large guilds too much power.
No shame on bigger guilds or anything but personally I've seen my fair share of drama /politics included in the later stages especially, to keep their profits kind of.
I personally prefer a smaller stage nowadays.
However with the mass of people of course comes the advantage of more power, resources and influence.
Is there any info on mechanics that prevent bigger (communities) to just smother and suck dry smaller communities? Or is it "strong eats weak" policy?
I would appreciate any info about mini communities. I read about families and free holds but there's limited info on how exactly freeholds relate to the nodes and what is needed to get them.
i believe you need to choose between bigger guild with smaller benefits or smaller guild with bigger benefits

Larger nodes do of course have some power over the smaller nodes through the vassal system. However, this likely won't affect your day-to-day gameplay too much
One thing to keep in mind is that currently, all player housing (including freeholds) is tied to node citizenship, so that will have an impact on where you can build a freehold, and there is limited amounts of space for them.

yes, so lets say a group/community of 10 something people manages to gets a freehold. maybe not in a bigger node but in a vassal one.
I have read about city defense and citizenship and understand that the freehold is like bound to the defense.
Lets say a bigger community has their eye on the city and manages to "destroy" it.
What happens to the freehold or the smaller city, and the city?
Or, maybe I got it wrong, but like a vassal city lets say level 3 could also get attacked , right?

If a node gets successfully sieged, the freeholds of that node become attackable for 2 hours after the siege ends. During this time, you will need to defend your freehold to stop it being destroyed.

you have a copy of the layout, after the successfull siege you lose some of your valuables if they find your house and destroy it after the siege
Correct, for the two hour window. If the siege is lost, the freehold needs to be under the umbrella a level 3 or greater zoi within a week or it goes away too. In answer to your earlier questions. Freeholds are one per account and have a single owner. You can give permissions like many other games for levels of access, like storage and decorating persmissions. There is a family system planned for smaller groups (8) that will have some perks to it.
After a succesful siege of a node, freehold are up for loot for 2 hours after the siege, after that it become back to safety for one week to let the owner get out
You only ever lose processed and gathered good from storage. Not all are sunk, a % is.
Your layout and decorations are not messed with. And in the case of freehold destruction, are mailed to you in a template that you can place again, and pay the relevant repair costs (you didn't think it was going to be free did ya?)

Freeholds have a minimum distance to place next to each other. You won't be making "towns". You could give permission to use you smelter to everyone in your "family". And someone else in your family could have a freehold down the road with a different focus on crafting or whatever.

You would need a level 3 node to purchase the permission to place one in its zoi. The costs are TBD, but won't be cheap, also won't be unreachable. There are taxes due on all property owned that have to be paid monthly also.

freeholds are open world, and require a clear plot of land to place, so yes there will be a limit to how many there can be on a server. We don't know how many though just yet

I was under the impression that there will exist pre-determined freehold plots. So it’s not “wherever” there is space but in one of the available freehold slots.
People mentioned last night that everything will be full wiped during the alpha and beta... but there is no "full wiped" written under Alpha One. Am I missing something?

Its possible but exact limits have not been stated
The more level 3+ nodes available the more room there is for freeholds
I dont think we have any info on that yet. But Freeholds can be destroyed during a Node Siege, so the Freehold plots will be in constant flux.

Is there a way to contribute to the creation of lore in Ashes? I know there is not much info out but I was thinking that it would be cool to have active Gods involved in the realm. Maybe even warring Religions from time to time.
Well, I don't think there's really any way to contribute to the Universal lore of the game. Each server will have it's own "server lore" like how Castles Sieges, Node Sieges, etc. played out and that will be recorded in the libraries in-game, but to my knowledge, no, you can't affect the lore of the game itself
Unless they do some worldwide event like "if this boss isn't beaten on a single server in the first 24 hours, X will happen in the lore. If one server does beat him, Y will happen in the lore", but that isn't something they've talked about
Im just saying since a lot of the lore is still up in the air maybe having the community contribute ideas or suggestions can be helpful down the road.
Also will there be psychoactive compounds in game? I would suggest creating sacred plants for each race which they commune with their Gods when using.

The lore of AoC was created for a Pathfinder campaign that Steven created years ago. Unreleased means up in the air for you, not for Intrepid. I am pretty sure that it will be adjusted to fit an MMO by Intrepid. The pantheon of gods is determined, with a little information released for them. The nature of the religions has not been released at all.
How will steven keep gatherers,reprocessors and crafters important if the economy in aoc isnt player driven?
Player driven imo means that all items in the game are player crafted

HOUSING: Has it been confirmed yet whether or not Furnishings for your Home will take up space in your Inventory like Elder Scrolls Online does or will there be a separate Furnishings Bag like in Star Wars: The Old Republic? If they take up space in my Inventory I already don't want to play this game. I am huge on housing and having items fill up 95% of all of my toons bags like it does in ESO will not work for me.
from what they have said, furnishing blueprints will be part of a player's inventory, and since these blueprints are mailed back to the player if their housing is destroyed, it is reasonable to expect that they will not be in the player's inventory after the furniture/decor has been placed in their home
Blueprints just teach you how to craft a single furnishing. I would imagine that you can craft multiple of the same furnishing after you have already learned the Blueprint.
Unless you actually have to find 20 of the same Blueprint to create 20 bookshelves and if that is the case than that is also a reason I wouldn't play this game.

Are other races, like elves or humans allowed to construct buildings in dwarven nodes - if yes do their buildings look like dwarven buildings or will they in this case look like elven or human buildings?
The buildings all follow node style, freeholds can use whatever skin the owner has though
There are no custom skins for buildings in the city, steven wants to preserve the ascthetic of the cities.

^ When I first read that line, my brain went to the camp system in 76( only game I've played that used anything like that before) and the concept was if your camp had to be picked up or destroyed, you got a "Blueprint" version of it's self, that allowed you to place it down later, with the exact layout and set up you had prior. Basically just a easier way to move your home around, without having to rebuild it brick by brick again

Has the team mentioned any ability in the social features to tag/put a note on an individual you've interacted with? Since the world is going to be so full of different players, I could see it being easy to forget why you liked / disliked someone if your last interaction with them was weeks/months ago. Has an in-game system for player notes been discussed or would we most likely have to turn to keeping notes outside of the game?
The only thing I can think of that has been mentioned along those lines would be the character sheet, but that's something you update yourself for your own character and others can reference it. I don't think they've mentioned something like notes you can add to your friends list or something. I think it's a great idea, you should make a post about it on the forums as a suggestion so they can see it! ^^

I was wondering how in depth the crafting will be in the game. I understand making high quality items when you're a skilled crafting, but I was wondering if there would be a way to customize or design the stuff we're crafting, just for purely cosmetic purposes. Like let's say I'm a skilled clothier and I wanted to make my own robe. Could there be a way of customizing the robe so I can choose the specific material, color, and style/cut the robe would be. Also like adding embellishments.

@zealous crystal There will be dials to tweak the stats on items, color could be done through the games dye system, the ability to customize the appearance of items (like changing the angle of the curve in a swords blade) has been mentioned as a possibility for the future, but probably not at launch
So lets say we have Jade, and Gold. The blueprint for an axe needs three ingredients. Making the handle Jade, will make it lighter and have faster attack speed, but making handle gold will make it slower but have more damage. I guess this is gonna be the crafting system since it's been said they liked SWGs crafting system
