Im Australian and im also worried about our server location but seeing as Australia is mentioned in the servers I have faith they won't abandon us. If Aussies are looked after the numbers will come

If so, be sure to add your voice to the thread so the devs can see that there is a justifiable demand for Aus based servers. Make sure to tell your friends to add their voice as well. @strong drum

Attacking a corrupted player does not change your status, except bounty hunters have to be combatants to get rewarded
@grizzled latch It's an automatic status against corrupted. They will show as non-combatants to everyone else I believe.
I dont mean to make a discussion about this but that seems unfair. Can't defend your corrupted friend that way. Do you have a source for this, is it something you think you heard before or is it just an educated guess?

There is no set cap on freeholds in the game. It's only limited by node progression and how expensive the prices get

Any test you buy you'll automatically get access to every lower test as well

Remember those are just the alpha requirements. Intrepid have stated that they want the game to run decently on hardware that came out 5 years before Ashes release date. So if Ashes releases in 2022, 2017 hardware is OK.

@main raptor You will be able to breed for stats. That has been confirmed for a long time. You will try to breed different mounts for different roles. Like speed and so on.

Combat pets, mounts, and mules will also have a leveling system to be announced. Will not be "run mount in circle afk for hours"
so there are three artisan paths, within one path you can master multiple, but not all of the professions. The others would be to the point right before you chose to master, though what that means in game we dont have the details for yet. but it will be a meaningful difference.

@rotund flume No, you find it click the ore, it disappears and it will be located somewhere else in the world, You wont be able to camp Resources like you do in other mmo games, keep in mind everything is subject to change.
also we were given a reference from steven back in the day that a vein of ore once mined, may never show up again in that area and be shifted to another part of the world etc.
The materials will be located in semi logical places though, so you probably won't see an vein sitting in the middle of a field of grass, so combing mountains will still be a vaild way to search for it. You just won't know that there will be a vein in any particular spot.

nope, Intrepid is NA, my.games is for europe my mistake, see answers below.

Servers are not region locked. Signing up on the Intrepid/my.games just means your account is going through them.
You can still play on any server you want, although the server closest to where you live will most likely be the best unless you just want to play with friends some where else.
i recently made a ticket about it. You can buy from anywhere and you still have access to all regions. The only thing that changes if you buy from intrepid is the price if you are outside of the US cause it adds VAT
There will be region locked prices for those who opt in. Like SA their price will be quite a bit lower but they won't get to play NA servers
Thats to help the customers that live in places like where the US dollar is too strong for a 14.99 monthly price to make sense. If they did not region lock those accounts everyone would try to get that price.

You can only master 1, but you can do both
More details to come to what extent. But you would be able to master taming for example, and be a not very effective breeder.

Do we know how important will character level be for professions? Let's say I would like to focus on gathering(for example mining) on my main characte. Will I be able to have one low lvl alt for processing and one for crafting? Will most technologies/recipes be only available when a certain level is acquired?
Professions do grant exp, so while it may or may not be slow any alt you have for pure crafting will still level up

Question regarding corruption. Say a group of 4 friends gank a Non-combatant, two of them kill Non-combatant, become Corrupted and loot him (the other two don't participate), then the other two kill Corrupted ones to avoid losing the items to Bounty Hunters or random people. The Corrupted lose significant part of corruption due to death. Rinse and repeat - Profit. Yes I know previous PK count increases the corruption gained, but that can be countered somehow. And yes there is still a risk of getting killed by BH, but this method can significantly reduces the penalty for random killings. Am I missing something? Is there some kind of system in place to avoid clearing corruption from your main using your alt/ friend?
@remote osprey that's a common concern. Main ways to go against that would be to
- Make the gear get destroyed instead of dropping it for others to loot
- Make the EXP penalty considerable enough, that dying is a bad alternative compared to working it off

How does the level of mobs for zones work?
I have the understanding that a new zone is going to be low level mobs. As it builds up, the level of monsters will get higher.
So for instance, if a new player spawns in and there’s nothing but high level towns/cities everywhere, would they not be able to find mobs their own level?
from what ive seen, the map is insanely big, therell be areas for any lvls most likely
We know that a node's zone of influence increases in size as the node levels up. Now this hasn't been confirmed by the way I see it happening is that as the node levels up, the outer reaches of the zone of influence will contain higher level mobs, but the mobs close to the town will stay the same level as they were. Of course, we'll have to see what they decide to do, but they have said that there will always be a range of level mobs for new players to fight

I am planning to play this with my older brother, however, he has a disability where using a keyboard and mouse for tab target style videogames is proving to be a hurdle for him. He loves FFXIV a lot since he can play that perfectly with a controller, he even clears the hard raids in that game and plays very well. I know there was mention of a controller support style UI scheme, is that still promised to be implemented? He doesnt expect a full controller game, he still can type on a keyboard, and use a mouse to click on UI overlays, but just a controller to actually move around in the world and utilizing the combat and targetting.

you find out when the npcs appear. it only takes a couple of hours to level a node to 1, as mentioned on the wiki

We can talk about the tests from May 31st and June 1st. I used a controller in those tests for movement, basic attack and jumping.

You can not map anything yet.
Get a fancy enough controller/program you can map anything though. If you use a program id suggest asking customer support if its authorized first though. Specific exemptions have been made before in other games for disability assistance.

Wand speed was fast enough to glitch and have infinite range in the pre alpha, so if you consider it a spell its probably faster than a potion launcher lol

Hey folks how does player housing work in regard to when it is destroyed? Like if i have furniture and stuff stored in the house. and the node gets besieged and destroyed. Does everything you own gets stolen aswell or what?

Well, there will be like mining nodes that'll spawn where only a set amount of a resource will be present, so people have to compete to get it. There will also be world bosses that spawn, so people might randomly flock to that area to try and kill it?
Have they said how many unique raids/dungeons there will be? And if so how many would be "locked" based on the nodes?
Right but I mean will there be 10 active based on nodes and 20 locked because certain nodes aren't big enough
And the number is arbitrary I guess
I wonder what they expect the turn around rate of large nodes to be. Like if a metro is being defended well enough theoretically it could be blocking content for years

@night yacht event based? Maybe, maybe not. We don't have enough info. But we do know that there will be mobs just out and about that you can kill for XP and loot. If you and a bunch of other solo players are working together to kill something than it will be beneficial for you to group up while you are doing that, even if it is temporary

I don't think they would be treated as party members like Chocobos in FFXIV, they're more like a way to increase your versatility. You can choose to have a tanky pet as a squishy mage to help tank mobs while solo questing for example. The combat pets take a bit of your own personal power away so it's really just gameplay preference. We don't know yet what the extent of their skills and abilities will be

deeper mechanics in "exploratory Professions" for example - there isn't much exploration going on when alpha players will set up a spreadsheet for the entire system. It just becomes a chore to look up the combinations in those spreadsheet.

so the different healers will have something they excel at?
you might need an offhealer though were cleric secondaries can help out
I'm interested in seeing how Bard/Cleric will play out then, as Bard offers some support and healing and I think the Clerics augments will strengthen those.

Another question passing by... Do anyone think there'll be too many healers/Clerics, if the game is balanced around having 1 of each achetype. I'm having a hard time seeing only 1 in 8 playing a healer. Do anyone has any numbers from other MMO's?
There being only one proper healing archetype, the bigger worry is that there wouldn't be enough healers as we don't know how a lot of the class combos are going to pan out.

Just because someone decides to go healing does not automatically mean they will be good. You may have an abundance of Healers, but maybe 4 out of 10 are worth their weight.

I trust the company to make good decisions on how they will work the length and special characters. Too long can be bad and so can too short. Weird characters and numbers can be distracting and immersion breaking.

I watch a lot of anime so ive always hoped for the freedom this game is offering and I'd love to be able to snuff out player based cutest groups in major cities or visit a black market situation. And when the time to reserve names does come, it will go in order of the packs that people bought. So kickstarter backers first > summer backers > intrepid pack backers > voyager plus backers

the main reason i see alpha 1 sales is where a bunch of people stop playing because they experienced everything in alpha 1 and have no interest in giveing feed back and see it as a quick game to play for a couple of months as there are always people like that in alphas and betas. as a result intrepid will see numbers declining and will probably need more testers, tho i honestly belive that to be more of a beta issue than a alpha one due to the nature of the price of alpha originally.
I mean, the betas will most likely be relatively complete. Last we heard about it, the betas will come and go fairly quickly compared to the alphas which are expected to stay for a long time in comparison. Most of the betas will most likely be clearing up minor bugs and optimizing shit imo.

yes, but there will be some restrictions. For example if you have a "White lion heavy armor" set, that had the fur of a white lion as part of it's visual then you might not be able to dye the fur color

imagine a raidbots style website calculator for your class/skill combo that outputs your max dps. dont really need addons for things to be taken to that level.

You can make something that calculates your max dps but player skill will still be required
the game is confirmed to not have animation cancels or anything really indepth mechanically, aslong as you can get your skill order right I think 95% of people would be fine.

There were people outside of kickstarter that got access to alpha 1 from buying older packs that are no longer available
these packs had alpha 1 access, they got removed from the shop in august 2018
As for entering in it now, that's really not confirmed, there was just a mention of MAYBE in passing
if they do re-open it it'll probably be a 500$ pack again
@warm elbow they tweeted last night that if the servers can handle the original 10k then they would consider opening access so you can check their twitter + the wiki for more quotes if needed

I dont know if my questions make any sense. But, I wonder what happens if a Guild takes over all the nodes (Is it even possible?). And can its lore be player driven In the sense that certain players become characters within the game lore?
1 guild can only have a max of 300 characters, so no 1 guild cannot control all the nodes. The server pop would have to basically be dead, and at that point would most likely be combined with another server.

I don’t think characters officially become part of the lore, but individuals can certainly become a big part of the server’s culture and history

@crystal beacon running a node is not trivial especially as they grow to metropolis size and there are 103 nodes on the map so controlling and running everything even by an alliance (4 guilds) would be impossible. As for the lore part of your question, that wont happen, at least from everything that has been said so far relative to lore/story.

Hello ppl, I am new here and I have a question. Do we know if every character will be good/excellent for pve/raids? or specific classes. I currently play L2 and I really enjoy playing as a Titan which is a pve/raid baus
Each Archetype will most likely be able to find a niche to fill. We won't really a get a better idea more than that until after Alpha1/2

@tidal hatch Gameplay being balanced around groups of 8 allows for there to be 1 of each primary archetype in a group, not that it is necessary.
Anyone know if raids will be scaled to need 5 tanks? Like in wow you have a problem with your mini groups for mythics and have to have offspec tanks cuz you only need 2 for raids

I have no idea for they officially have people flagging but do remember you have caravans that will me walking pvp zones so either way it will have to be something intuitive
there are many reasons why players will flag themselves: Sieges, Caravans, Guild Wars, Resources.. maybe spots in Dungeons to farm Items.

Greetings, I hail from Latin America, South of Chile to be especific and I would like to speak as a member of the Latin American MMO community. Id like to preface this saying that I love the vision of the game and I have been following this since the Kickstarter.
One of the common issues here in Latin America in general, is similar to the Aussie issue. WE NEVER GET ANY SERVERS IN ANY MMO. Two things always happen:
We dont get any servers located in South America, and instead we play on the northamerican ones with an average ping of 300ms for someone with a decent internet connection.
We get one server in South America, located in Brazil. When this happens, a population of Spanish speakers gets bunched up with Portuguese speakers, in a server where we still are getting 250ms because Brazil is so far away from the rest of South America.
I love how the game is coming along but Im afraid players from Chile, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela and many many others will be alienated once again from the general population by making them play in unwelcoming servers with way way more ping than the other players, and with Lineage II being one of the more impactful games we have had here, it would be a shame that the demographic that once was so devoted that Lineage II doesnt find the heir apparent that is Ashes.

well.. i think it heavily depends on the rewards and the game in general. Most mmos are leaning pve with pvp elements. And i think AoC is a bit different - but no one really knows till release :>

you flag automatically if you attack non-corupted target
and you want to attack such target to loot them
@worthy hatch there’s not a bonus to flag like bonus exp gains etc. however people are incentivized to fight back.. if you attack someone for whatever reason you see fit and kill them yes you will get negative corruption however the loot you receive and whether you get corrupted at all is dependent on whether they fight back... if they don’t fight back they will drop more resources for you to obtain and you will be corrupted.. if they do fight back they drop less resources and receive less penalty and you don’t get corrupted so it’s a fair balance in my opinion as a pvper

I mean, if you wanna nit pick, Jan 24th started the new year TECHNICALLY based on moon cycles instead of the crap American calendar. new moon for the first time this year being on the 24th. picking when each season starts ends is arbitrary at best. are we basing it off only moon cycles? which season is chosen to start the cycle? or do we go by weather? because in general, august starts fall from what ive always known.... funny how the fall autumnal equinox is chosen on a day that has nothing to do with the moon or star cycles at all. American wise says the 22nd of September, but that doesn't match moon cycles at all. in fact, the new moon is on September 17th, which would be the true day if we went with that ideal of September, not the 22nd.... from what i understand, aug/sept/oct are fall, nov/dec/jan are winter, feb/march/april are spring, and may/june/july are summer.... and it fits both moon cycles and temperature averages.

not sure if the flagging for PvP came to conclusion, so I will add my bit:
You only need to flag yourself if you want to attack people for no reason (stealing mobs, resources, griefing)
For any meaningful PvP you dont have to flag yourself, if you signup as attacker/defender of caravan or a siege, you are automatically flagged for the event and its participants, but not for open world griefing PvP
So, I constantly see people comparing the combat in ashes to the combat in WoW, comments like "they have to nail the responsiveness and the combat is perfect" but was WoW always perfect? Or did it go through some growing pains like every other game, started out good and got great instead of just being "perfect" just seems like an unreasonable expectation to want a new IP to be better than a fully established game with decades of time to "get it right" my question is basically is this realistic or people using rose tinted glasses?
i mean even in wow vanilla it was still really well recieved combat for the time and obvs as time went on they fine tuned it and added better animations etc etc so i think to awnser your question a bit of both
Yeah, WoW vanilla's combat was pretty great from the get-go. I get what you're saying, but considering this game is going to be released at least 18 years after WoW, I don't think people expecting great or even perfect combat "feel" is completely unreasonable

You can place your freehold anywhere in the ZOI of the node you buy the certificate from.

Depends. You cant interfere with dungeons, POIs (which could potentially include the beach aka "blue lagoon") or some terrain features which are not specified.
I would imagine though that the beach front properties will be the first to sell out to the first to make enough gold to buy a freehold. Im not certain if you need citizenship to buy the land itself or just to build a house there though.
I may have missed it in all the text and pop, but is there going to be full time pvp server and a reg server that only does pvp for the stated events?
Land and house are separate i think, there are diffrent "houses"/buildings you can have on your freehold
No all are PvX
some might be more heavily pvp due to players choice, but no rules like that will be enforced

@real sleet You have to own property to gain citizenship. So anyone can pay the fee to get the permission to place a freehold. Once they place within the zoi of that node, then they can become citizens.

I've watched the recent AMA and read around a bit, but not seen much info on how much secondary class matter, so
Question: What information is there on how much secondary class affects your character compared to primary?
e.g. Will the difference between a knight and guardian be comparable to the difference between a dreadnaught and guardian? Or will there be (edit: considerably) less difference for the former due to it being only different secondary while latter is different primary?
@faint wasp secondary archetypes do not add any new skills, but instead add augments to existing skills from the first archetype.
Also, only the first archetype affects stat growth.
So, if you want to be a fighter-mage, your fighter skills will gain certain augments that you pick from the mage secondary archetype.
And if you want to pick fighter-tank, the same can be said.
Oh I remember from AMA now, I think he used an example with charge being able to be augmented to be a teleport, I didn't quite catch augments being from secondary and no skills from it. So I guess a primary class can end up playing drastically different based on secondary then

@uneven folio it's too early to have this sort of detail for sure, but they way they talk about it I assume there will be many things you can report people for, and then GMs will investigate the reports. There is also going to be an AI system that does some automatic reporting for suspiscious activity like botting or RMT
There will be active GMs aswell that will be monitoring chats so if you want them to come an see an issue firsthand then depending how busy it is they can.

So I'm not sure if this has been discussed in depth, or if I should put it into the Q&A this month and pray - but do we know yet if Questing is going to be the primary levelling route, or can we expect to see how games like Everquest did it, where you can go into the dungeon, set up a camp and grind mobs for 8 hours to level up in a group? I saw the latest video showed the dungeon and they said there's separate 'camps' which made me think it might be EQ-escue, which I'm hoping for. Mindless quest to quest is boring.
I'm sure if you wanted to, you could just grind mobs to max level. Will it be the most efficient levelling method? Probably not
But right now it's too early to tell
I appreciate the response. Games like Everquest / DaoC had people levelling primarily through grouping up, delving deeper into the dungeons and grinding etc. Quests were simply a byproduct. It's games like WoW who are 'spam accept quest, kill X, return' etc.
I'm hoping it's the former than makes an appearence, but can't please everyone. 🙂
On their recent dev update they mentioned people setting up camp in the dungeons which is what made me think about it.

@heavy cradle Intrepid has stated that they want to separate quests into different categories. While there will be mindless kill x amount of certain mob, there will be other types of quest that should prove less mindless.
I'm not sure about this, but I think you can also level through your artisan profession.
But I do not know if you can grind to max level

The thing is, you can't really have both. EQ / DaoC / L2 etc had grinding as the optimal, and only route. When you add Quests to the mix, you find that they give more reward with XP/H (for example, you don't see anyone playing WoW by grinding 1-110).
So although the potential is there to grind, if you want to, it will be trumped over Questing, unless something is put into place.
So it depends I guess on how they implement the questing.

Well quests should theoretically give gold too, but I know what you're saying. Grinding will likely be more optimal in other ways, not just XP. Like you say, gold / currency.

I would expect launch date to be early/mid 2022, @onyx knoll yes you are right there, but the beta start estimate I gave would still give a full 10-12 months of alpha testing prior to betas. Which is still a good chunk of time to wait, which I’m all for. Would rather a longer development to make it right

I just played the closed alpha for New world, but it was only 4 days. I feel like if i was participating in an alpha for like, 6 months
that at that point im just basically playing the game
@odd goblet they'll be testing all the base archetypes in alpha 1, so we should be seeing all the base skills during that time. 5 of them initially, then they'll add them as it progresses. Secondary archetypes and full classes will be tested in alpha 2

from what i understand the 2nd class is more of augments for the first one, and the first class is the main one u really need to be carefull to chose, i know u can change ur secondry, and for example, a tank will always be a tank no matter what 2nd class u choose right
