Is there going to be a way to target enemies purely via action combat?
Will purchases made with IRL money for cosmetics / skins and such be bound to that person's account / character, or will they be able to be re-sold for in game currency via player trade or economic metro AH

Alright so stream was awesome, but I do have one nitpick about it. The size of the dwarfs is more akin to that of a hobbit or halfling. Is there going to be a height slider, and if not would it be possible to reconsider the dwarf heights?

Only way to get them under your umbrella so to speak is for them to create a brand new account with a new email and only use that one as their main account they make purchases on. Since most people don't use multiple gaming emails since they are a pita to keep track of, you are probably SooL.

no. you assign a cosmetic to a character then it can be applied. I believe you have the ability to reassign a cosmetic if you have multiple characters. but each cosmetic "belongs" to one character at a time.
Will randoms who join an open world dungeon at the last minute be able to kill steal the boss and get loot? How does the looting work i.e. is it shared loot or personal?

Sorry, another question. Is there an idea for how long mounts will live, as a base age not extended due to breeding? I see temporary mounts from bosses will age and die, but is that across all mounts too?
apart from temp egg based mounts, mounts dont die

yeah, flying mounts are meant to be exceptionally rare (only around ten per server) so the ones that drop age and die to maintain that rarity
Oh I don't see where it says only flying mounts drop from bosses. Just says temporary mounts that drop from bosses will age and eventually die. But mounts and pets drop from world bosses on a rare basis. Does that mean that all of them die that drop from bosses? Land, gliding, or royal?

there is a currency called embers that you can earn, which you can use to buy cosmetics
there isnt a way to convert gold to embers though

I believe the thought was since the mayor would likely not be on 100% of the time they could assign some of their powers to be carried out by the officers that unknown mentioned. Not a lot formally about it I don't think

You saw 3 of 5 basically. Human, Elf, and Dwarf were all represented either by them or npcs. You havent seen orcs or Tulnar.
And yes, I know I am splitting hairs about sub-races.

regarding buildings being built inside the Node by the mayor like the armory example in the livestream, What if I, as a citizen, take the quest to get the required materials for the building completion, but while I was doing it someone else finished that quest. Does my running quest get cancelled? what if I spend time on it and then it was for nothing and without compensation?
one thing is that the quest will not be nearly that easy to complete. for a building to get built like that will require many people to contribute over time.
they had it scaled for the demo, so that things could be shown off. like the xp on the mobs that popped the node advancement
Also you will probably be able to keep those materials for other projects.
I'd like to see a "coffers" system for materials so even if you harvest the mats they don't get wasted and all buildings in progress are tied to this pool of mats, so instead of a quest for a single building all construction is pooled into the coffers system

Most likely won't see something like that. Part of the pvp system is disrupting supply flows and gathered materials are dropped as a percentage based on flagging state when killed.
True, but I guess it would make sense that I would just put the materials in the Node's reservoir so even if they are not used on this particle building, they can be used on future constructions.
Then shouldn't the Mayor let the citizens choose by vote which building suits them best? Or that would depend on the Node type then? A dictatorship might not be a good thing haha
4 different election types. Depending on where you live, you probably won't be consulted. So you need a way to express your displeasure other than murdering the mayor every time they log on.

Other than the corruption hit, and the probable alpha strike needed to cut a mayor down before the guards react (think high sec EVE), nah.

the will have the ability to adjust corruption consequences as well because they want the world to feel dangerous and encourage a risk vs reward choice, without letting that pvp fall over to griefing. they are building multiple "dials" to help tune that over time.
Yes, those that love to say they have a foolproof system to game the "karma system" are in for a bit of a shock is my guess.
What bothers me is the fact that when the game releases after 1 or 2 weeks any new players won't be able to join a Node from the very start. I mean wouldn't the server reach saturation where all nodes are mostly level 3 or more? How will the new players get to experience levelling up a Node from scratch if there are no level 1 nodes available to begin with

Nodes rise and fall. And it takes several weeks for nodes to get to that point.
Yup! And there are probably way too many nodes too have every one built up. You will generally be able to take the roads of bigger nodes to safely move to lower tier nodes

This might be a dumb question but why would a player want to risk corruption by attacking a noncombat player?

Some people like to RP as bandits. Some people just don't care and watch to watch the world burn
There's not supposed to be a benefit for corruption, it's just meant to deter griefing
There are a bunch of reasons.
Exerting dominance over a farming spot. Taking gathered resources that they don't want to grind. Being a dick. All sorts of reasons. The trick is figuring out if the timesink to get your character back to normal is worth it. Risk v Reward is the mantra.

And hardcore pvp people are not griefers. They will have plenty of other activities beside killing people who don't fight back to do.
So the only people put off by the system are those that plan to bully because it makes them happy.

The increased penalty for the gankee is there to encourage fighting back.
If a level 50 comes at you in the starter zone. Stand there and take it because you know even though you might have 10 minutes of neg, he is going to wreck his character for hours if not days.

there is not ammunition to maintain
do we know if specialized arrows from skills will be a limited number from the skill, or just in use till it runs out
so like activate skill get 5 explosive arrows
or activate and have the arrows until the skill runs out
that is something that will likely be iterated on as they experiment with combat. using a skill/spell may have a duration/X uses or any number of other designs. at this point everything is really still on the table for combat related items

Early on Intrepid explained that their vision for combat was it being strategic and tactical, and that they didn't want it to be "button mashing" like in certain other games. If memory serves me correct, I also believe they gave an example of where in many modern MMOs it's all about gathering lots of mobs and DPSing them down with AOEs, this is not something they wanted for Ashes. However, this was before Apocalypse and before hybrid combat was mentioned. Also, everytime combat is shown, there are always a lot of comments demanding faster and faster combat, which leaves me a bit worried, as I was really sold on their original vision of a strategic and tactical combat experience, and I think the speed of current combat looks fine.
And now, the question: Does anyone have any updated information or quotes on what Intrepid's current stance on this is?

They have said that the combat in the BR gave them data needed for the action side of things. It was naturally sped up with a quicker TTK to get the data they wanted. Tab target pacing is easy to do. Now they are working on blending those two together to achieve that original vision. How quickly they get there remains to be seen. But have no worries of it becoming a Dark Souls twitcherboi experience. That is not the plan.

There are just so many strong and vocal opinions about combat, especially from those who want no tab and super-quick combat, while Intrepid is mainly giving the somewhat vague "it will be hybrid combat". But let's be optimistic ๐
Do you however know if the have stated anything about crowd control a la mez, and if some type of that will be in game? I do see problems with that type of skill in PvP though, but I do hope crowd control is an important part of the PvE experince, and not just AOE dps.
I think CC going to be pretty huge considering people can just jump in other peoples scenarios for PvE and disrupt them or kill
Crowd control will have diminishing returns. You will not be locking people down permanently. No stabby stunlock/stab/stunlock/stab/dead
^ there is a mage ability (at least on the wiki) for instance that basically allows you to tell someone to go into the corner for timeout. Pick target, pick where you want it to go, and poof they are there now.
Probably on a large CD as well, oh there are going to be some fun spells and CCs to use... I'll let them go wild with it for Alpha sake

Yep. You would have gotten the cloak automatically for backing Pioneer or above during the Summer backing. But if you were KS it had to be bought a la carte. So as Leverage said. Fire off a ticket if you think there is a problem and they will sort you out.

Royal status is something that players have to earn in game, it cannot be purchased with real money. It's basically given to mayors of metropolises, kings, and queens.

So, while I do understand that the main priority is getting the game released, has there been any thought as to how content will be released post-launch?
Like, will we see Intrepid lean more towards new content like WoW, or more so improving the game constantly like EVE Online?

anyone got even a rough ETA on alpha 1. im assuming from time diff between apoc teaser and apoc playable. about 2-3 months from now
only info we have is that alpha 1 is sometime this year
from what we know about alpha 1 though, it looks mostly what they want. atleast what we can see from the livestream indicates that, no idea about any behind closed door processes like meshing or render issues, but from what i see all that needs upgrading until they can reasonably release alpha 1 is UI,netcode,bug fixing,class systems implemented, and general quality of life stuff

@dusky blade I would imagine we are still looking at several months at least. Having the 8 base archetypes in alpha 1 will be quite a lot of work on its own from where they are right now. Jeff referred to delivering the "slice" that we saw in the preview which shows the systems being integrated together which is great but that is pretty bare bones in comparison to what is needed for 20 levels / 8 archetypes for a true alpha 1. I would set expectations on end of the year with updates along the way and if it's delivered sooner, then great. Intrepid takes a when its done approach don't expect them to push it out early.

They are pre-determined.
So it will be randomly chosen? (when the server is created)
not randomly all servers nodes will have the same ones/type. Its up to the player to decide what nodes etc. will be built up and which wont.

I watched a video stating that there will only be 5 metropolises max. in each server.
Since developed nodes seems to be somehow meant to be fighting each other (for what I understood, to free XP), won't military type metropolises/nodes be advantaged ?
We don't have all the information on the divine and military nodes so know if they will have a clear advantage in combat
no, fighting nodes dont give direct benefits for sieging etc. once again it has to do with accumulation of exp to grow the node, ppl need to feed the node exp for it to grow in levels.

I can see the way the system works:
The development of nodes will trigger some events and quests, the result of the events will trigger some other events/quests, and so on.
But: considering the state of a server, can the developers manually trigger some prepared quests to targeted players/groups/guilds?
Let say a given server contains an evil guild that just want to kill anybody its members crosses around, let say that this world has the 5 metropolises with a status quo and their development seems somehow stuck.
Can the developers trigger some kind of solo quests for the evil guild members to initiate an event that might destroy the world/reset (or diminish) the nodes if the other players fails to prevent the situation?
..or everything will be managed by a system?
Nodes can be sieged to delevel them and outright destroy them back to level 0.
Oh I'm sure the devs could trigger events if they wanted to. However if they do it would undermine the entire point of having a world controlled by the players. There would be a huge backlash if they tried to take control like that
And the system has triggers built into it all ready. Like the monster coin events.

I have a question. What is the difference between cosmetics bought off of the shop and the other variants of the same creatures that can be found in the world? For example, is the cursed charger from shop just a skin variant that only the shop purchaser can get, but other variants in the world can be obtained for the other players taming and turning them into mounts? Or is the entire race locked off to only the cosmetic owners?
All the store cosmetics are just skins for things already in the game
The exact appearance of that particular skin is unique. You may still find lava bears in game, but yours has a saddle that is only seen on that skin.
Everyone else may have different colored whatever. But the color sold on the store will not be available in that exact shade. And so on.
Hmm, makes me a little worried I invested a bunch, but also glad for what I missed out on. xD
One of the core principles of Ashes is the store items will only ever be cosmetics. No p2w, no convenience items, just cosmetics for items already in the game
Anyone know to what extent this goes? For example. Are pets out in the world with variants too, or are they actually unique entirely? Same for ships like the swan ship for example that seems pretty unique and particularly themed. Also the stuffertons seems pretty unique to have to find just for a skin hmm...
There will be parity in game as to quality available. There will also be unique cosmetic skins that can be earned just through gameplay. They have never said that every model will be available in game, just that there would be something just as good that wouldn't require an extra store purchase.
So it very well could be that pets and such are unique models that are never available in game.

combat isn't remotely close to done. they are just now beginning to bring action and tab together. it will go through many iterations once alpha 1 is ready for players as we go through and test it and provide feedback

Rogues will have access to stealth. Some sort of combo system is planned. What are some mechanics that you had in mind that don't classify as pushing buttons on a hotbar?

When you say "stealth" do you mean stealth mechanics or just a invisibility ability?
I'd be surprised if some sort of detonations or synergies are nor included in the final iteration of combat. They've made some one-off statements about those things that would be hard to find. As for stealth mechanics, I'd be more inclined to say that it'll be closer to invisibility with abilities that would flow off of that rather than an in-depth stealth system
But things are subject to change and we don't really have all that much info on the more detailed side of combat besides some stuff on augments and what's on the wiki

Hey all, quick question. Do we know if there will be node leveling leaderboards? As in, a leaderboard showing the top contributors to a particular nodes leveling effort. Perhaps daily/weekly/monthly or something like that?
The nodes track literally everything that is going on in them. So could be something if they wanted to add it. But <speculation> it won't happen because of how racial architecture is determined. People would be able to cheese the system if they were able to track contributions that way.
Hmm...would it matter if you could see which race was leading the nodes development along the way though? idk. But I could see it being fun trying to get a reward for top daily contributor or something. Maybe its just a random piece of gear or something. Or even just bragging rights. Or maybe a plaque on the castle wall or something ha...just thinking out loud here

do we already know anything about the resurrection skill of the cleric? is it just a simple resurrection where 1 dead player will be resurrected where he died? In Aion for example we had varieties like a group resurrection for up to X ppl or a port resurrection where the dead player will be resurrected and teleported to the cleric automatically

There is an overarching narrative planned that shifts as certain node conditions are met.
Will require travel and "going out of your comfort zone" I believe was the quote.
I always find myself returning to games that have great stories. I guess i have a soft spot for good stories.
Well, as we have yet to see what their content guys come up with and the MSQ will probably be held for live launch it will be a bit of a wait till we can form an opinion on its greatness. But don't worry there are sure to be adjustments based on feedback.

So poking through the wiki, I found that we'll be allowed to have a surname on our characters, as well. Will that be able to distinguish two people with the same first name for the purposes of reserved names? So we can have a Bob Johnson and a Bob Jackson? Or will it consider "Bob" taken? I've seen both systems in games before and was curious which approach we're getting here.

Yes, the upgrades is where everyones math goes wonky. Unless I missed what would have been fairly substantial news, those sale numbers have never been given to us. As someone that has upgraded once and is about to again, no one besides them knows the true numbers.

To make it more clear Steven did state in 2018 that there are just under 10k people with access to alpha 1

According to Steven Alpha one date is fall, The initial testing before then starting in May is QA testing to ensure quality performance before opening the doors to all those with alpha one access
"I am happy to announce that limited Alpha One testing will begin in May of 2020 starting with our highest level Alpha One backers from Kickstarter. The letter explains how the testing is planned and points out that it is limited testing and more will be invited as things stabilize with the goal being for everyone with access is in by Fall 2020

I was wondering if the Royal title that the royalty package allows us to ride true flight mounts?
No, the Royal Stables allow you to launch a flying mount that has a timer associated with it. This option only becomes available to pvp castles to build and level 6 metropolis (which are capped at 5) This limits the number of people with the ability to summon flying mounts on a fully developed server with all 5 metros to 10. There are also limited time egg drops that are extremely rare drops. After hatching you gain use of that particular flying mount for a period of 2-4 weeks until it dies. It also has to be summoned from a Royal Stable. So even if you have an egg, if you have no access to one, you cant summon the mount.

APOC is no more. It wont be back until after Alpha-1, so next year at the earliest
It was bit rhetorical, but I was asking that it return not as "APOC" but a standalone that can be explored. Kind of like how some games release a Character Creator prior to launch.

During the last stream, there was some discussion of AOC providing additional footage of the game through recorded video, which would be higher quality than the VPN the stream was using. Does AOC plan to provide this "bonus" video, and if so is there any ETA?

The most important one in my oppinion is the life of the NPCs.
In my oppinion it is very important vor immersion, that NPCs have a private life and do go to sleep at night and do go grab a drink at the tavern after work or be with their families.

dont think so
they will have some routines and activities like a day night cycle, things like that. but they wont have fully independent private lives like players

yeah your race and your corruption status will also influence your relationship with NPCs
a node mayor may also mark people as kos, so that will definitely affect you
will the visualize elemental effects on all players and NPCs like getting wet in rain or having snow on shoulders when its snowy?
they are aiming for a lot of realism in the way the environment affects players, but as far as having snow on your armor and wet armor, its early days right now
no problem its good to get new questions once in a while
i guess that goes for grass collision as well, like the grass moving when a player runs through it
that is a thing, but its not physics collision afaik

its a special effect on the plant meshes like footprints are decals

buildings are scaled to fit the stage of the node, as the node grows in size the buildings will also scale up
since the buildings are actual real functional places and not just facades, they end up being slightly larger than you would expect in other games

I watched the recent stream and I must say that I was really impressed. First time seeing this game and already in quite great condition. My question however is regarding the politics/zone system. During the stream, I think it was Steven, said that they will let the game live its own life. I mean... sounds great, but I think it is a terrible idea. If you give power to the people you will end up with Boaty McBoatface. Moreover, if thousands of players will play the game, what will be the "nobility" ratio? Because so far it seems like a system for a few hardcore players or maybe streamers who will have the power of the people. It doesn't make sense to me creating so sophisticated system that only a few can utilize. In most of the games such player-based hierarchy is not working and I can't see any reason why it should here. Thanks for answers and fingers crossed!

Well... seems quite worthless to me... I know I will never be part of the 10 so how does this affect my gameplay? I mean... will there be any difference between some scripted zone changes and this "living system"? I don't see any benefit for regular player. It sounds like a nice selling point, but what's in it for me?
There are over a 100 nodes...plenty of people will have a chance to experience the mayoral system. Just very few at the highest level. And remember, nodes rise and fall based on player choices, no set places like Stormwind as a WoW example.
But this is more of a pro/con discussion. Jahlon will link his youtube stuff and give you a wiki link if you need more info. Or pop down to discussion, plenty of people will fill you in there.
@vestal lance not everyone in a game should be able to do everything. If everything is obtainable then nothing feels rewarding to obtain. But that doesn't mean its only for the most hardcore. Take the military node for example. If you have the skill at PVP you don't need anyones support. Just the ability to win the tournament to take over the node.
It's more about having a very wide range of content that you can experience and even if you are never a King or Mayor the content driven from those positions are all things you can participate in.
It still feels weird. It is the main selling point of the game and it is based on this elitist approach and features that cannot be enjoyed by most of the players.
It's not an elitist approach. As pointed out with the military node, its not always about who has the most time/friends but it will take some level of commitment or skill to obtain the more prestigious things in the game. That is something that has been missing from modern MMOs for a long time and it certainly wont be everyones cup of tea but Steven like those who are supporting the game want a sense of real accomplishment back. There will still be a ton of things for eveyone to do. That makes up such a small percentage overall. I don't think you will be hurting for interesting activities

I have nothing against "real accomplishment", I have farmed Thunderfury in WoW Classic few decades back, but I would like even playing ground. You are saying that you need skill and commitment, from what I've seen and read on Wiki it looks like a streamer with army of 200 zombies can literally break the game...
each node type also has a different method for electing leaders so power comes from different aspects for each. I think its more that you have a limited amount of detail to work with and at a glance it can seem that way. Intrepid have been very aware of preventing zerg and creating varied power dynamics. I would also recommend Jahlons site ashes101 to see some of the nuances they have in the systems.

If you are a Combatant, is it possible to reverse and you become a Non-Combatant? Will there be a Combatant and Non-Combatant toggle?

correct. the rest outlines the circumstances where your flag can be switched without you toggling it yourself. as well as how that begins to interact with the corruption system

Once the combat is resolved you will reset. There is not a toggle that you choose.

The flag for non-combatant and combatant can be manually toggled by the player (pending a cooldown). However, as outlined in the wiki there are actions you can take that change your flag as well. Those have their own conditions and cooldowns.

There was a testing session for action combat, that was structured like a BR, so the devs could get feedback on server backend and action combat tech. They are using that data to start building the hybrid/tab targeting that we will see in Alpha 1. That or the dev preview is likely what you heard about.
i see. i liked the idea with the nodes etc i saw in that last long video, so i thought this might just be the next thing i'll try out. gonna stick around and follow the alphas and betas and play gorgon in the meantime ๐

I am talking about a "world event". That can last a month in game, for example. A disease that can't be cured with spells. Instead of creating a legendary item, we could create a cure. That is, the difficulty of developing a cure would be the same as creating a rare or legendary item! This could be an event that would require everyone's effort! @idle siren ?

I binge read the wiki and felt excitement of AoC that's why I became a quick fan and I have a question as a clueless amateur to mmorpg genre
how unique is AoC to other mmorpgs if you compare it to them?
Beyond some things like the node system it has all been done before. The vision is to get back to MMMOGA (Make MMO Great Again, red hat optional) that nostalgic time when choices had consequence and you would spend hours just lost running in terror when you wandered into the wrong area.

but having read the wiki, I've learned how great AoC is with its systems such as crafting, taming, combat and stuff focusing on giving the player the best experience
which is something I like the most

There are always going to be a few. Ashes may not be for them. Things like flying being restricted are there for a reason. If you can't/won't put in the effort needed to obtain the top experience, you will be disappointed and should move back to other mmos that have spent the last several years making their content available to anyone who logs on once a week for 20 minutes. Great thing here is that they laid out the basic mechanics and systems back in 2017 and have not wavered in that plan no matter the minority rabbling that has occurred. Corruption system, flying limitations, and so on. On other things that don't impact core systems that are more quality of life they have. QTE mechanics removed from early combat iterations. Ability to start as any race at any starting portal/camp, and so on.
Other than cosmetics everything is available to everyone if you put in the time or effort
and flying mounts are limited. but I like that

I noticed in videos that when on mounts or when fighting there is a lot of camera movement going on. I do easily get motion sick so will there be a setting to turn these movements off?

What will the class design and gameplay philosophy be. How will they make the classes unique and interesting while engaging to play? Nobody wants to mash the same couple of buttons and nobody will play the harder class when the easier class will provide with the same DPS.
How will they handle the discrepancy between the player skill level? If they make one size fit all, some people may think the class is too easy but on the other hand making it hard (relatively) will discourage players from using it.
Our classes will be the lens through which we experience the game and if not done right will lead to its demise. So how will they handle the classes and their gameplay.

Question on pvp flagging and aoe, if/is there an aoe heal? If I am aoe healing a pve player and a pvp flagged player runs into the aoe area, are they auto healed and am i then pvp flagged?
My question would be. If he uses an AOE heal would it heal people outside the party?

IIRC in Tera you wouldnโt get flagged for AoE heals and the person who was flagged just wouldnโt get any heals unless you targeted them specifically with one. Worked well.
More questions, Game is sub model.. $180/yr? How long will account data be kept for if I stop playing? Will my character be deleted? Will I loose any semi perm ingame items? Mounts, Housing etc?

So I have a question. You guys and gals have been showcasing all sorts or graphical feats from beautiful forests to extremely beautiful beaches to the wonderfully large metropolis but we really have not heard much on the Music/Sounds of the game or if Ashes will have voice overs on NPC's. The most beautiful game can be tarnished and even ruined by poor voiceover's/Lip syncs to the NPCs and even worse is a poor ambient Music, case and point Black Desert Online. While BDO was a graphically stunning game when launched it still to this day is plagued by a terrible voiceover that ruins interaction with NPC's and the music is simply put as TERRIBLE. While BDO isn't the only title plagued by these issues it is one of the most recent.

If you're going to do voices especially for something like swtor you have to do them right
And even then SWTOR has had huge expenses afterwards. They either have to lock down voice actors to long term open-ended deals or negotiate with them every time they want them back. SWTOR lost the original voice actor for the male trooper, so they went with a close match and used a voice modulator for two expansions. It was jarring to play content, then a character suddenly sounds like they were talking through a tin can from the bottom of a well, then 40 hours of content later be back to normal. There will be some VO in Ashes, but it was mainly npc callouts and other stuff. Possibly in limited cutscenes too.
Are there going to be localized servers? NA, EU, Oceana, etc? Have they said if there would be even more localized, like NA-West/Central/East?
We know they have talked about, NA, EU, and OCE. We don't know (or at least I don't) if there will be specific East, West etc ones.

@steady fiber We don't know yet and won't know until we get into testing. The devs are aiming for you to be able to get to max level in approximately 45 days.

If the combat is anything like we've seen in Apocalypse, PvP will be fast (besides tanks/healers), and PvE will probably be slower until people figure out attack patterns as well as get stronger.
