One of my biggest pet peeves with a certain popular MMO comes from the environment / level design. Specifically the layout of cave interiors being copied and pasted throughout the world. It's a bit jarring to see the same cave system every 5 levels of progression. So I guess my question is will the environment based assets like cave, cavern, or dungeon interiors be unique or can we expect to see repeat layouts.

Nope, they still need to clarify the entire process. Until they crack their backend problems higher level node sieges won't be able to handle for example 1000 people in a small area or all the people that qualify for participation. Most they have been able to throw into a small area so far was just over 200 and that was for a single test, and we haven't seen another test since.

The estimated base of people from the theorycrafters last year (speculation by the community on information given by that point) was that a metro would need around 1000 active players to maintain itself. Until they give citizen cap numbers it is all theory, but all citizens of a node are flagged as defenders. If you imagine the attackers given parity, going to be a clusterfuck if they don't instance at least portions.

Wondering if on release we'll have character animation similar to Black Desert. Don't like very much about that game, but I like the way the characters feel to move around, like they take a second to slow down to a halt when you let go of the movement key, or while running how their body weight will shift in the direction they turn. It really adds to the experience. Currently (obviously it's early still) the characters are pretty stiff and there's no physics when moving, no smoothness when going from running one direction and then immediately changing directions. /end

@dim shuttle Current animations are on their 'first pass' this means that as they progress through development, everything will constantly be tweaked and recieve multiple 'passes' to make them better. (It makes no sense to have finalized animations this early in development as many things such as hair physics/armor physics have to be adjusted later on)
Steven has stated numerous times that animations primarily will constantly get better throughout development.

What I was speculating on was what level can be expected for the final release. What is Steven's standard when it comes to what we should consider "good enough" animations. Plenty of fully released games have "good" animations but they are still very stiff looking and/or don't feel like they are weighty or have real physics to the motions (where my examples of running then stopping suddenly or turning while running came in) Thanks for your reply though.

They may go with a similar system to EQ2 called the "betrayal" quest line. You had to do this longish quest that gives you the option to choose a new class at the end. And considering Jeff worked on EQ2 I'll be he will reuse that idea.

Just the raw idea that there are 1/server items frustraites me. I understand "server firsts" (which I would prefer to disable the pop up on the UI.) Which, the idea of city crests on items is awesome. It saddens me that the crest would go away if the city falls, but I see where that idea is going. As a player who typically grabs an embroidered shield on characters, it'd be neat if the emblem fades or has a crack in it if the city falls instead. Just a thought.
The thought of no fast travel, especially on such an impressivley large map, immediately makes me uncomfortable. I don't have 40 minutes to run over to help a friend who made a new character and is back in starting town when I'm already across the map.
Speaking of which, is there a mentor system? Like, scaling down or up to be able to group with more powerful/weaker friends?

Well its 1 freehold per account, so we shouldn't see land grab style real estate merchants. However, I dont see why you couldn't uproot your freehold for the right price. They have confirmed that you can sell and buy houses. As for inactivity or really any other specifics, I dont really know.

One
You can be a member of several NPC associations like Thieves Guild, Merchant Guild and so on. But player guilds it is one. No plan for a system like GW2 or ESO of multiple guilds.
However you can have alts, and chat is said to be highly customizable, so you might be able to join another guilds chat either through the alliance mechanic or invite. Still unknown at this time.

Since freeholds can’t be place on roads, will all roads from a node be visible by the time it reaches level 3, or will more nodes develop the higher the node gets? If more roads develop will they be procedurally generated or do they have preset locations? Since they stated there was ways to move the cities of vassals closer to borders I would assume they are procedurally generated

Most MMORPG games revolve around the concept of launching a starting region with new regions being added through expansion packs as time goes on. However, Ashes is based on the concept of one region that continuously changes. Is it intended that this will always be the case, or will new regions be added later?

Idk if anyone can answer for certain, but it’s possible that they could add more areas. Maybe they won’t have nodes, but instead will be PvE/P areas with specific events that go on. They already will have regions that aren’t under any node’s control (such as the large bodies of water). So yea, maybe someone else can give a more complete answer

It is 3am in the morning their time. Try during regular PST business hours and you might get an answer. Things not appearing for sale is a known issue, but for some those options still appear. Steven said that they would give plenty of notice before removing the KS addons and upgrades (which includes the Summer addons) so it is probably one of the many issues the new web team is trying to sort out. Try the various tabs under https://accounts.ashesofcreation.com/store/aoc#all to see if it appears somewhere wonky.

@plucky marsh UE4 is modular, this means developers can swap parts around between games like lego blocks.
So, Apocalypse is basically 3 testing modes that feed into the MMORPG.
And no, currently there are no servers online, last test was on Feb 7th. Keep an eye on #news for the next testing phase.

That is incorrect, you will have both action and tab regardless of weapon type.

You can upgrade, but it will be the upgrade for the current pack being offered, not the upgrade for the pack that you bought in with. So if you went with the $75 pack with the december cosmetics, you can upgrade now to the top tier, paying only the difference, but you will be getting the top tier of cosmetics from this months pack when you do.

It has been said that corruption is cleared on death only. What policy is being put in place to prevent two friends from going in the middle of no where and dying (having a friend pick up dropped gear) to clear corruption?

I remember Steven said that you just dont die to remove corruption, that you may have to do a chain of quests to get it removed. Getting a friend kill you just passes the corruption to your friend so now both of you have it .

Couldn’t find word for but I last recall on a stream if you are set as purple in a node NPC guards will lurk around you, if you are red that is kill on sight form guards.
So this doesn’t guarantee you being able to attack back in defense but it does mean you can get attacked within the city/town/metropolis.

The last livestream explained that there are certain exceptions to that rule. For example in the case of a node siege all citizens are automatically flagged as defenders, so if your guild members are in the attacking force, you will indeed be able to attack them. But that qualifies as a sanctioned pvp event that does not use the flagging system. Open world pvp you are sol. There will also be cooldowns and penalties for dropping guild to stop people from dropping guild, attacking someone, and then rejoining. There are duel mechanics that can be toggled off/on.

The Kickstarter/Summer badges that are referred to I don't believe have ever been available on the forums before (the ones that are meant for Pioneer, Founder, Braver of Worlds, etc.)

They were like a mini-game and like anything online many people cheesed the system. For example, some of the badges were based off of likes and lols and people created alt accounts so they could boost their numbers. Same thing with number of posts, there were multiple threads of "three word game" that were basically post farms. Good riddance.

we don't know yet. Should be available at launch, but we don't know how far along they are in the MMO so we.. don't know.

You can’t take any skin and apply it to any mount you like, there are criterias they made in order for it to work

There are "classes" of animals that the skins can be applied to. You won't be able to apply a "horse" skin to a gliding mount for example. However, they have yet to clarify the confirmed hurtle (horse/turtle breeding mix) would be able to have either the horse or the turtle skin that have both been sold.

@dense lily You have to understand the base mounts rather as blueprints or archetypes. You have a base mount for say, 1 person mount, a 2 person mount, a group mount and a flying mount, and that's it. "other mounts" are just skins for these archetypes.
So basically your 1 person mount will be a simple horse, so that is the mount every one gets and every other 1 person mount will just be a skin for this horse
So to take your example you will more likely have the option to transform the horse (or whatever form they decide the base mount to be) in either a wolf OR a lizard but there is most certainly not a wolf mount directly

@crystal beacon correct. But bear in mind classes have their respective weapon class and will inherently perform better then someone else not using that class. i.e ranger with bows or mages with grimoires. As well as being locked out of certain class skills

Soon? I'd say no. The composer for God of War and The Walking Dead is making the music for Ashes and so far they've been only using royalty free music afaik. But I'm sure they will sell a soundtrack eventually

@ocean escarp To help with the earlier answer. Class skills may grant easier access to an area, but if you don't have that archetype with your party there will always be a way to get to that content. A rogue/ranger may be able to climb to activate that secret door so the party can avoid two rooms of trash, but the party without a rogue/ranger can still make it to that room the long way round.

For something to be cross-server, in physical terms needs to be hosted on one of the servers, and the information of the player gets transferred to said server. The player switches servers temporarily. for the battle. Since they have not yet implemented transferring of player information between servers, than this may be something for a later date. The major issue with it would be housing and such, but that doesn't affect the arenas. Again, this is hypothetical

This is a quote from the FAQ for PvP flagging:

- [Purple] Players who force attack another player or enter an open-world battleground are flagged as combatants.

You won't have mounted combat, but mounts will have abilities and limited combat function. The dragons have combat abilities, but those will be extremely rare. We still need clarification on how that will work in the case of multiplayer mounts. Will the people just riding have their combat pets follow behind?

I've read on the website that there'll be caravans for players to trade from town to town for money, this is something that reminds me of the triangular conflict system from Silkroad like way back in 2005 and it's something I never thought I'd see again.

dumb question but a question none the less...do we have the minimum spec required to play this game at launch? tried testing BR multiple times and no matter what I had my settings at my comp just couldn't handle the load so need to build one
