Three friends and I have been playing Ashes of Creation for the past three weeks, and I wanted to share my impressions.

At its core, the game feels similar to New World but with settlement mechanics layered on top. The issue is that these mechanics don’t yet feel fully realized. What’s missing for me is the excitement of gearing up and progressing my character. Unless you’re part of a guild with dedicated crafters, the path to acquiring meaningful gear feels unnecessarily long and tedious.

Right now, the gameplay loop is almost entirely grinding. You hit level 25, wait for a war, and in the meantime, repeat the same grind with little reward. This doesn’t capture the MMO experience I was expecting. While I understand the game is still in Alpha, the current state feels comparable to Pantheon’s early showings too underdeveloped to demonstrate the real potential of the game.

For this to feel engaging, crafting needs to become more accessible at lower levels, and combat should offer more rewarding loot. As it stands, spending over a week farming mobs for only a handful of drops is discouraging. The design seems to target a very specific player group, and that’s on me for buying in without realizing it sooner.

Are there any plans to make adjustments soon or should I just wait a few years for release to buy?

The processing stations for beginning crafting are usually in camps near the starter area villages like Lionhold and Bonfire. Look on the map, they are usually a short ride away. For later processing or more convenience you may want to go to a higher level settlement depending on your location and server that is easier. Needs fuel and money, and usually a vendor item (the vendors that sell the items are usually right there or close by) to process, so make sure to have plenty of cash and extra logs or other fuel.

try heading over to Highwayman Hills (North East of Starting area) find a group there, or you can solo kill them (slower tho). There are commission and quest boards in different settlements you can do, to get glint/chests/and citizen tickets. You can also run crates to get some cash as well. if you have not become a citizen of a settlement, you can once you are lvl 10. Can also find a guild to join if you havent already : )

I finally resolved it myself. A tree spawned beneath the tent, I bounced off it, hit my dash and slung self over to a cliff. Then moved carefully to the ground. So besides being with xp penalty, missing 30 green glints I am free. Heavy price to pay.

The tl;dr is we don't get all the "bells and whistles" that they use in some of their showcases as they're giga unoptimised and would probably cause some peoples PCs to explode if they gave them to us

For example, in past streams the vegetation/foliage has been more dense and lush, with grass blowing in the wind, but its been said that it causes the game to lag quite heavily, thus we don't have the option for it yet in our version

We will eventually get access to those options once they go an optimise stuff, but it's not a priority atm as it is just visuals

There are many more "builds" that you never see, but they sometimes stream from because they don't have to worry about people trying to find them and disrupt said stream. And then when it doesn't match 100% what people see on Prod, they conspiracy theory about why it was done.

3070 isn’t much worse than a 4070 unless you are comparing 3070 non Ti vs 4070 Ti. If it were any other game I’d honestly recommend getting a second hand AMD 6900 XT red devil. Used that card for a long time and still have it as a backup.

I'm not super surprised you're struggling when trying to play on 4k with a 3070. I play 1920x1080 with a 4070 super with minimal issues. I'm sure it'll be improved on over time. Lvl 4 settlements and dynamic gridding are still in early iterations

Settlement wars are meant to be under mayoral powers. They need mandate points from their citizens to declare them. Not an ultimate power thing. Mayors will eventually have a limited pool of those points for projects in a settlement. If they want to declare for the shits and giggles, they are going to limit what their own settlement can build or projects they can initiate. But again, not enacted yet, so Intrepid put in another way for it to be triggered, and those groups are using it in what others perceive to be a griefing action. It will get better.

I can't look up Commissions on wiki for some reason. Can someone explain why I get commissions wanting me to kill x amount of wolves in an area where there are no wolves? There are various JM tool recipes with different stats. I’m not sure how you currently obtain the ones that aren’t the default ones. I do know of the Slagbreaker’s Pickaxe recipe from Befallen Forge you can look up. It has different stats.

Everyone has solved it in difference ways, depending on GPU etc you have it will need a different approach. For me that has the 5090 I solved it by using DDU and rollback to 577.00 driver which has almost removed all crashes. I still get some odd ones but they are more managed that before

Anyone help on this glitch? I was able to promote Armorsmithing to Apprentice which is my 5th skill to raise, but the xp bar wont flip over to 11 and it has an icon saying i cant level it anymore even though it shows i have apprenticeship.

@harsh abyss So you need to level up your hunting skill to journeyman to be able to hunt it, this requires level 20 in hunting skill and getting the certificate, this then allows you to hunt the crocodile, you will then need journeyman animal husbandry to get a 50/50 chance of either getting the mount or the beast of burden

No its just a ironic, last phase the dessert was close to be the best place to gather, now they have manage to destroy it completely. How long did you wait without any key inputs after the black screen appeared? I'd suggest waiting 2 minutes to see if it works. After an update it can take a bit to load up the first time

Its very playable, we did in prior phase as there was only 1 us server and it was a pretty good experience, it was noticeable esp when bigger fights and the server started lagging but it was suprisingly well with playing over 100 ping even people who had 200+ said it was good overall

And the 9 levels while true is a bit misleading. Anything beyond a 4 level difference leads to reduced returns and almost non existent the bigger that number gets. At a certain point it is better to just grind it out solo or with others nearer your range. Others did the math on all this.

There is a small window where you can hit escape and hit unstuck if you get it in the future that has worked for people when logging in. Other than that, those that don't clear through various workarounds are usually a ticket issue. Luckily you got one of the easy ones.

Why are low level leveling areas turned into lawless zones randomly so that lvl 25's can come in and kill players who are trying to grind? This seems like really horrible game design.
