A good thing to remember is that Intrepid has a long track history of not hitting various targets or dates, so anything you think is certain, is not. Could be the 26th, could get pushed yet again.

You get what you pay for. In this case Intrepid paid nothing for Vanilla open source so it has issues and support for it is not a high priority. The best method is to contact CS and keep complaining about it until they manually go in and reset your notifications for the ones that won't clear (I had a similar issue a while back, it was related to spam accounts being deleted before the notifications could be removed, putting them in a non-interactable state, CS fixed it after about a week of complaining constantly here and in tickets)

Most likely not a "when" they can provide. It is one of the things that will break and come back as they iterate, since it is related to character animations. One reason they have the NDA on PTR is some of the floating eyeball horror shots that some have managed to achieve zooming in to first person when it is still not supported. But it is on the list, so persevere.

It's taken almost a year to not yet even get one continent done at a barebones state

It's gonna take probably around that long to get the other one done, plus start actually filling them out with content

Polish for that content, continued gear balancing, economy changes, hunting/farming/animal husbandry, the rest of the node system, node sieges, node death, player housing

And the ocean isn't just empty, it's meant to also have things in it too

I think the main thing they really have been working on is dynamic griding and fixing stuff from upgrading to different versions of unreal. to me that is where most of their dev time has went into. Art team been killing it tho 😛

Eventually all of them, but don't get excited. You have a Steven estimate of October for Summoner to be tested (and he has been wrong on just about every date window he has ever given), and after that, they plan to rebalance all the archetypes, after then is when they plan to start to reveal augments which is your classes. So given their track record on not hitting estimates for development, you will get them in P3. Just probably years from now.

No, P3 is going to release in August with some game mechanic updates (if it is not pushed again). Summoner, the last remaining archetype to be revealed has been said to be slated for next milestone in October. Once that is in and in a place they like it to be at, they are going to revisit all of the archetypes to redo them, which will probably go into next year, possibly all the way to summer next year. Then they will reveal their plans for augments and a possible level increase beyond 25 which is required for classes. You got time.

Just remember it is a testing client and you keep nothing from it beyond memories (and apparently the occasional cosmetic gift if lucky). Go out and have fun and test. Do not approach it like a persistent mmorpg that you are going to keep progress, and you will be fine.

I highly doubt it's the final wipe, I personally expect a wipe every 4-6 months at most right until launch.

Of course they stated they will only wipe when necessary, but we already had 4 wipes 2 wipes since A2 started.

There's a quest early on named Safe, Fast, Sure, which get's you a full starter set. You can pick it up at lvl 3 (i forgot where), just takes some travelling, picking things up and delivering

If that does not work you can try a repair from the launcher as well as make sure you are installed on a rig that meets min spec, in particular you need a ssd or nvme, if it is installed on a HDD there will be issues.

You downloaded it, now it's unzipping and installing. If it gets stuck you should be able to restart without data loss.

If you are at the Dwarven Starter Gate there are currently a lot of lighting bugz and other things that are not ready as they are working on that area... it is a known issue and the area of the anvils is not ready for testing yet.

Hey guys, quick question from your experience — is hunting for resources like Grem's Skin rarer compared to others? I mean, are there fewer spots to farm it? I'm wondering if that could be a problem after a wipe, where very few players would be able to craft level 0 gear from those resources before reaching level 10 — especially since hitting level 10 doesn’t take that long.

over leveling from novice crafted gear and even outside of apprentice gear is an issue with the game as a whole irrespective of resource availability. i dont think there is any real way to fix it without a steady stream of new players to buy up the lower stuff

there are plans to eventually make solo play...sorta viable, or not impossible at least.

But the game is designed from the ground up to drag you kicking and screaming into direct interaction, good or bad, with other players

1. Make leveling more meaningful and rewarding. Wait for more variety to appear in this aspect (like what they just did with gathering/processing, but apply it to other ways to gain XP - I expect it to be done throughout Phase 3 and after)

2. Make leveling significantly longer

3. Ignore people with mindset "I need to get to max level, because that where the game actually begins and that's where I can have fun" and focus on "journey over destination" concept

P.S. There is a very long list of reasons why it makes sense for Ashes to have a longer (or even VERY long) leveling process, since it's a subscription-based MMO, initially designed around more old-school design core pillars. I raised this in my feedback email. There doesn't seem to be a relative ratio of gatherables, meaning crafting heavy armor is quite easy but anything needing grem skin is a lot harder. I did get a heroic grem on my third grem, so I can't comment on rarity, but I did get 10 legendary oak very easily. The quantities and rarities are still off, it seems. Do we know if hunting has even had a pre p3 update yet?

I feel like I'm testing things not knowing what has been updated yet. Its not good.

I've noticed that this game downloads/installs significantly slower than any other game I've played, and while downloading, my disk usage is constantly jumping between 100% and 0% in task manager, with the download only progressing while my disk usage is at 100%. Is this intended, and is there anything I can do about it? Even other mmos don't take nearly this long, I can delete and reinstall FFXIV in like 30-40 mins.

To add a bit of clarity:

1. Gathering is in relatively okayish state, if that's your thing. Not 10/10 yet, but not bad either
2. Processing got some QoL features recently
3. Crafting - hard to say, but I would expect it to be much more "alive" compared to the previous phases due to the upcoming Econ overhaul. I can't promise this with 100% certainty, but I'd estimate it's probability as relatively high
4. Questing is being worked on, but still far from being finished. Same applies to FTUE
5. Freehold system is currently being worked on. They were partly functional previously, but very far from being finished. If I recall correctly, they are currently removed from the PTR, so the next iteration can probably be expected in the near future.

• Almost all races are already in game (on PTR, meaning they will be there at P3 start)
• 7/8 primary archetypes are in game. Last info about summoner we got was its ETA around October (that might change soon, so take it with a grain of salt)
• Secondary archetypes shouldn't be expected before Summoner and general archetype overhaul + reword of the skill trees

I have a question regarding the launcher. Whenever I download or update a game, I notice that the launcher uses up all of my internet bandwidth. I have a 1 Gbps download and a large upload speed (since I work on my PC as well), so it's surprising.

Is the launcher peer-to-peer (P2P)? Because it’s hard to believe it could be using my entire connection like that.

If you have a treasure map and your treasure chest happens to be in a dynamic pvp zone (which is rare on itself as they never spawn in poi’s) then no. I think the chest is preset with codes the moment you get your map.

If you get your map in a dynamic pvp zone. Then yes I see a possibility of the chest containing better materials.

My guess is: if its dynamic pvp zone and you find a treasure map it be heroic or rare where it would normally be uncommon or common. Thats it

Few things - I haven't played since Jan 2025 and coming back I am having some difficulties

1. I have a 4070ti - before, I have had ZERO issues gfx wise. FPS 90+
   today: it keeps hiccuping here and there. Lots of frames drops for a half second every oh, idk every 15 seconds on avg. I've toyed with the settings, DLS, FSR, TSR, Put everything on Low/High, Balance/Ultra Performance/Quality and it's happening on each setting.

2. I do not remember if we were allowed to have 2 chat boxes. If so, how do I create a 2nd chat box?

3. HUD UI editing - So I was able to move some HUD ui. Saved it. I didn't like the position and wanted to move it again - some are now locked and I can't remove it. I can "RESET UI" but that resets EVERYTHING. I don't want to reset everything, I just want to get these 2-3 huds that got perma-locked. how do I unlock it?

4. Certain HUD UI won't allow me to place it on a specific area. When I click and Drag, it isn't centered on my cursor on certain areas of my screen. If I tried to get it as close as possible to the area I want and edit the X/Y axis manually, it warps itself somewhere back in the center. is there a solution to this?

5. Is it possible to Edit my Quest Tracker like my Chat Box and not have it semi-transparent? I'd like to have a solid black background so these old man eyes can read the text please. I don't remember this being an issue before.

playsafe ID seems to be the only real deterrance option since the arms race cannot be won in a technical sense

It’s still in alpha as I imagine you are aware, weather is one of the many systems that hasn’t been fully implemented and developed, weather does change but at the moment yes it rains quite a bit.

As for fog and lighting same applies, playing with global illumination settings and shadows can help with these if they are not to your liking @proud idol

Anyone else notice on PTR that adjusting resolution has near 0 impact on frame rate. I am running a 3060TI and at 1440p low I get ~30FPS with regular drops into the teens tried switching to 1080p and no difference in FPS while CPU load is still sub 30% just running around the Anvils
Will have to look into VRAM usage, but would be interested to know if others have seen or have overcome this as an issue

There are a lot of graphics settings that you can play with to try and improve fps. Typically when I suggest to someone that they play with all the settings a bit, they come back and say they were able to improve their fps. The one I always suggest though is turning the fps cap on and playing with that as well. Starting it at 60.

Sure I can try to put the FPS cap on and see if that moves the number. Will put it at 60. Given I am hitting low 30s at best I imagine that may not do much unless there is some interaction that i am not understanding.

You are also slightly (very slightly) below the recommended specs for 1440p. It also recommends an i7-8700 or AMD ryzen 5 3600.

1. So, I’ve noticed that Riverlands being the first biome to be developed has lots of POIs while other biomes don’t have any and have these “pocket dungeons” instead. Is the plan to add pocket dungeons to Riverlands and POIs to other biomes?

1. They said a few streams ago that they are planning on getting the western continent in a playable state first, then they will iterate on the existing biomes, which means adding POIs and stuff everywhere.
2. I'm not sure about the whole glint and commodity exchange stuff., but as for crates: they are your main transportation method now. This means that it's what you can use to transport stuff on foot, with mules, with caravans, with ships, it basically integrates into every system. Cargo is now deleted from the game and everything uses crates.

There are 5 crate types: Commodity, Construction, Personal, Relic and Resource, and there are 3 sizes: small, medium, large.

Just watched that part of the video again.

Margarets answer in the interview she had with Nyce and said again that they do not intend for API access to be a thing.
The information they don't want people accessing, they will put gates to reduce that access.
For things that they do, like the status of a realm and it's nodes and ability to talk with your guild for example, they intend for that to be apart of their website.
Possibly that info would be available for community run sites. Granted this is the long term plan with no Eta at all.

The game options has an option to lock this to a lower number, but it didnt work early this year. So lock it to something you like/can use via your AMD Adrenaline settings or Nvidia equiv

Third wave started back in May, you'd have access now. It is strongly recommended that you watch some of the videos about what the game is meant to be and read through the wiki to get an idea of the intent behind things. It is currently in early alpha and is going to be in alpha for an unknown span of time, very likely 2+ years, and things are going to be varying degrees of constantly shifting and constantly scuffed.

Right now it's "phase 2.5", but that ends on the 26th and gets wiped, so if you do get a key, just ignore the live servers/Shol and go play on the PTR and take part in the active testing

Kind of, any death will give you XP debt and damage your gear. If you are flagged PvP (Purple) or Corrupted (Red) or are in a PvP event. The amount of XP debt you get will be a different amount to standard non-combat(white). You also drop a % of what you have in your materials bag section. Some of the dropped mats you can go pick it up again and some of it is deleted.

I know the decision is entirely up to me, but would you guys recommend Alpha testing to others? I’ve been following the game since it was announced and have had great passion for it but was gonna wait till launch (mainly because of not spoiling the content/experience) but I’m starting to have second thoughts. I feel like becoming a part of the testing phase and actually getting to experience the game may just be fun and wouldn’t really make the experience repetitive

As long as you realize you are not playing a game, you keep nothing but memories from testing (everything is wiped) and the client currently is baaaaaaad. Buggy, broken, needs constant fixing and will not get better anytime soon. If so, then drop that $100.

Right now AoC is $100 to test, and that LIKELY won't go lower until beta, which is at the VERY least 2 years away from now IMO.
Even if the price goes lower I doubt it'd be by much.
So if you feel like you don't mind waiting 2 years, then you shouldn't buy in, but if that's too long then I don't think you'll regret doing in now.

With that in mind, I have no idea how much you'll enjoy testing, so I can't help with that specifically.
The game is in a very early state content-wise, but the bones are really good and combat is already very fun.

They also have a 90 day no questions asked refund policy.
