I would suggest that the PTR stuff, you should rather post there #a2-ptr-news because on this channel are most likely posting also ppl without A2 access

so, the initial test, they had vendors, GM teleporting ppl to nodes and giving flying mounts

I’m not sure I understand what you’re trying to get across but I think what you’re saying is that the nodes nearest the starting zones will level up first? If that’s the case this will most likely occur but with wars nodes will fall and vassalship will change, the idea is that the world is ever changing so this can be avoided

My personal opinion if you're not incredibly into the development of Ashes, I'd recommend waiting until sometime next year before asking again about buying in.

Right now is a genuine alpha experience, almost certainly unlike anything you've seen before in an MMO unless you've done NDA'd Friends and Family testing for other MMOs

A lot of the core gameplay loops aren't fleshed out, a lot of core systems that make Ashes, Ashes, aren't even in, the ones that are in are incredibly early implementations.

I'd say a solid 99.9% (not hyperbole) of MMO players would not enjoy the current Ashes experience, solely because of how "alpha" the game currently is. So I recommend everyone interested in Ashes to check back again sometime next year. It'll still be an alpha experience, but hopefully not as rough as it currently is

PTR is a mostly directed testing environment, so it gets constantly wiped and you can't really play normally.
as for the normal servers, it's gotten better with a few more quests added and professions giving better xp, but playing in a group is still and always be the most efficient way

as for whether it's fun... depends on how much you like grinding

From my experience back in Jan and Dec, it’s a bit of all of the above

Some classes can be better than others with access to self healing abilities. But by and large you can’t easily grind mobs unless you out level them and or out gear them by a significant portion once you hit in the level 7 ish range. Power and exp gaps at the capstones such as level ten needing I think more exp from 9-10, than the entire 1-9 doesn’t make things easier by any means

Poor exp from quests and mobs when you get level 5+, became really terrible on level 7. From lvl 9 to 10 i needed to kill 250 mobs (the mobs that i can efficiently kill) to get a level and I was able to kill them just 1 by 1.
But when I was joining a random party, that was 5 times faster to get a lvl.

So that is a thing they should adjust for sure

The initial sound is usually very subtle when starting the melody. After playing melodies multiple times I often get an audio bug where it no longer plays on my end, but other players hear it at alarmingly loud volume on infinite repeat and have to log to character select to fix it. The audio from your chosen instrument was said to be in the works and got pushed back last I saw, so I do not believe it has been completed as of yet.

Being from 2019, that cpu is a bit old and underpowered. This game is also not optimized so under specced rigs definitely struggle.

Over time games are definitely heading in that direction. You can assume it is likely that specs will be a higher minimum at beta and release since these stages are both at least a year away with no actual ETA.

My personal opinion if you're not incredibly into the development of Ashes, I'd recommend waiting until sometime next year before asking again about buying in.

Right now is a genuine alpha experience, almost certainly unlike anything you've seen before in an MMO unless you've done NDA'd Friends and Family testing for other MMOs

A lot of the core gameplay loops aren't fleshed out, a lot of core systems that make Ashes, Ashes, aren't even in, the ones that are in are incredibly early implementations.

I'd say a solid 99.9% (not hyperbole) of MMO players would not enjoy the current Ashes experience, solely because of how "alpha" the game currently is. So I recommend everyone interested in Ashes to check back again sometime next year. It'll still be an alpha experience, but hopefully not as rough as it currently is

You were talking about the full game size correct? If you already have it downloaded, you won’t need an additional 150gb for phase 3. PTR and A2 P2 are different downloads as well so combined they would take up 300gb+ if you wanted both.

For just the patch none of us know. It’s likely mostly temporary files so if you’re able to delete another game temporarily, you’ll likely be able to redownload it.

But storage is relatively cheap so I’d suggest investing in more storage if you’re borderline.

There is also almost 0 information currently about class combinations aside from the fact that the secondary archetype will augment the primary archetype abilities, not give new abilities. For example, a warrior charge might turn into a blink if they choose mage as their secondary archetype.

Cats with Abs got apprentice buildings up in weeks and JM fishing in about a month time, when the server was basically dead. We did have a lot of help from the community and mayors. Mayors are also in talks constantly to try and setup buy orders with neighbouring nodes to be efficient.

All additive damage, is a separate damage pool, that when you auto attack appears adjacent to your main weapon damage. Your main being magic or physical and in this instance additional necrotic. Generally it appears in yellow text opposite of the white main damage floating text.

There aren’t any professions that bypass the limit like cooking and first aid in WoW. There are 22 professions. You can have all 22 as novice, of those 22 - 5 can become apprentice, of those 5 - 4 can become journeyman, of those 4 - 3 can become master, of those 3 - 2 can become grandmaster.

Currently the game only has novice through journeyman so you can max out 4 professions. You can choose 4 gathering, 4 crafting, or a mix of crafting, gathering, and processing.

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
• GPU: MSI Ventus RTX 4060 Ti 2X OC (8 GB)
• RAM: 32 GB

Despite this, I have to set graphics to medium to hit reasonable FPS (~60–100). As soon as I push high or ultra, FPS dips under 60—even though my computer can handle way more to any other récent game. Makes gameplay feel frustrating

Every setup has variable performance. Optimization has not been worked on, and is not planned till much later in the process. Every patch may affect your performance in various ways, some better, some worse. Stop worrying about the Jones and test and give feedback. Once they have the client in a functional state that works, then they will worry about optimization efforts. Making the game pretty and a smooth experience has no value if the base game does not function underneath how they need and want it to go.

Yes, people report different results based on various hardware setups and various tweaks. Mostly it is just wishful thinking rather than some "I found the magic fix setup that makes X performance happen", but "people" will swear up and down that they have found one. If you go back and look at various developer and community manager commentary on the issue over the preceding months, you will find plenty of guidance that it is just random and that no one knows which things work which way, and they often change how those settings work from iteration to iteration.

Is it possible to uninstall the game without having to first update it? Attempting to uninstall requires interrupting the auto-update in the launcher, but in order to do that you have to restart the launcher. Which in turn automatically starts updating again. I really don't want to sit through another 80GB update just to uninstall the game, man

Is this chart still accurate? I've been gone for a while, but last time I checked, alchemy relied quite a bit on mining as well. It makes ruby, emerald, and other gemstone powders to turn them into potions or inks needed by scribes. There seems to be no connection between mining and alchemy on that chart.

Alpha 2 isn’t ending. Alpha 1 was $500, alpha 2 has gone down in price already significantly from $250 to $100. There have been phases of alpha 2. Phase 3 starts on August 4th. Last year, phase 1 started Oct 25 and phase 2 started Dec 20. There will be no alpha 3.

There is currently no plans announced to lower the price from $100. There is however a giveaway that I think is still on going where you can win a free alpha 2 phase 3 key

A few suggestions include 1) updating graphics drivers, 2) waiting 30-60 seconds once the black screen pops up to give it time to load, 3) enable GPU crash debugging in launcher settings

If none of this works, submitting your crash logs to the customer support team is the next step.

The game is currently in early alpha and really not super representative of what it's supposed to eventually be, there's a LOT of unfinished systems that still need major work, balancing issues, bugs, crashes, and just generally a rough feeling to things still

When they say it's in alpha they actually mean it, treating it like a fully finished game and sinking hundreds of hours is gonna probably not be a great idea yet

It started with a TINY team for like the first 3 years.
Also, the project kinda got soft-restarted in 2022, so what we have now has been made in 3 years (outside of assets).
What everyone is saying online including the streamers is that this game is feeling dead meaning it is not progressing to release.
I think progress has been AMAZING the part year or so personally.
They improved a lot on stability and shipped/improved a ton of systems.
There is not much structured content in the game though, which is probably why some are saying that "there is nothing new".

I still would not recommend buying in though in the current state for most people.
The foundation is just not stable enough generally which means tons of setbacks, and there is not much content in the game currently.

The internet's take on pretty much anything is binary: they either love it and it's the most amazing thing since sliced bread, or it's absolute trash.
AoC is FAR from surpassing sliced bread: parts of it are good but some are still very early/mediocre, so people are just calling it trash because it's closer to that side of the spectrum

This is a test, not a game. Far from it. They are still adding in a lot of the core gameplay mechanics and are making strong steady progress. If you are looking for an "early access" level of game, come back in 1 - 2 years. Ashes is not at that stage yet, but rest assured it IS making progress every week.

I'll give you this as it may help you further.

1. Are you interested in artisan professions or mainly PvX? If you say PvX you will not find a lot of content. Crafting has a lot to test and is due for a lot of changes. It is a complex system so it is getting a lot of attention right now. PvX stuff is getting added more slowly.
2. Are you interested in testing, or here to play an early access level game? If you are not interested in actually testing, again, you'll get bored quick. Ashes is not at that level yet.

The reality is we are due to be at about 20% of the nodes that the full game should have, many systems are not yet in place. A lot of the artisan professions are still placeholder. There are 2 world bosses, 1 big dungeon (forge), 3 big POIs (points of interest) that people run iirc (Carphin, Steelbloom, Oakenbane?). There are a handful of pocket dungeons.

So, depending what you are looking for, set your expectations accordingly. Again, if you are looking for an early access game, you will run out of content in around 1 month and start calling it trash. That's because this is not what you wrongly expected. If you are genuinely here to test the systems as they get implemented, want to test and report bugs, discuss changes, are prepared for wipes and game breaking things to happen, and understand we are a long way from release. Then you will have a better chance of enjoying the experience and say it's great.

I understand the need for player testers and I think it would be cool to see it progress to a massive game, I was just feeling intimidated by the steep price just to test a game. The game isn't even a game yet, it's in early alpha being actively tested. A lot of the progress that has happened is on backend things and fixing bugs/crashes that were major stability problems. The people who constantly freak out and screech about how it's dead are largely people who came into this with no idea what an alpha is and who wanted to treat the tests as if they were just another flavor of the month game for the locust swarm to tinker with for a few months before it moved on, and they can be ignored

Whether taking part in the tests is worth it is up to you, it's $100 which is a fair bit, and you need to keep your expectations reasonable on what the pacing is likely to look like. We're probably gonna be here for a decent while

Yes, Node locations+type are static. Currently there are around 21 or so excluding the Anvils which are planned to come online when Phase 3 starts.

You could, but it's not exactly a "small group" thing. Anyone in the area who does any activity that earns XP will contribute to said Node. So while you and your 6 friends could 100% go to a specific Node and start levelling it, it wouldn't "belong" to you and your 6 friends and anyone can come and go from it. You'd also need to be elected "Mayor" once it reaches Village stage. Currently that's done through a voting system (other systems are planned for other Node types, but currently only voting is implemented) that requires you to be citizens to vote. Meaning if a group of 8 people comes along and all votes their friend Mayor, they'd "win".

There's other systems for Guild homes and stuff such as Guild Freeholds (that aren't currently implemented)

@sinful moth Yeah with what he said below about the guild freeholds, but even with a group of 6 a basic freehold would also give you this loop but they aren't fully implemented yet. I believe the same system that mayors use for towns (EX: having a set number of building plots, for a service or processing station, you will be required to have support buildings, etc) will also be used for freeholds. There will be 3 different sizes for freeholds and they work alongside the system of a node itself.

Keep playing around with settings. I experienced stuttering and eventually got it to go away. Try setting an FPS limit even if you rarely get to it. I'm not sure what the limit options are

Yes, AMD FidelityFX 3.1.4 latest release was in May and supports Unreal Engine 5.5 but next release from AMD normally is 1-2 months after UE has released so that would be sort of any day now

You kill grems until a huntable one spawns in its place. Usually people farm the ones right south of lionhold because the grems spawn every 30 seconds instead of several minutes.

Pet it, and you have a grem carcas.

Hopefully that method of gathering animals changes ^.^

Hunting is extremely basic. You're looking for ones with a white name over them, not moving around. Kill the normal ones and they'll respawn, south of lionhold is good for it. Not all hunting mobs work like this, some are just static spawns on a respawn

My personal opinion if you're not incredibly into the development of Ashes, I'd recommend waiting until sometime next year before asking again about buying in.

Right now is a genuine alpha experience, almost certainly unlike anything you've seen before in an MMO unless you've done NDA'd Friends and Family testing for other MMOs

A lot of the core gameplay loops aren't fleshed out, a lot of core systems that make Ashes, Ashes, aren't even in, the ones that are in are incredibly early implementations.

I'd say a solid 99.9% (not hyperbole) of MMO players would not enjoy the current Ashes experience, solely because of how "alpha" the game currently is. So I recommend everyone interested in Ashes to check back again sometime next year. It'll still be an alpha experience, but hopefully not as rough as it currently is

The plan is for the PTR build to make it to P3 Prod. The PTR is ever changing and will be going through lots of changes and additions in the coming month to get ready for P3.

Based on @primal steeple reply I think this is two different parts really. AoC is currently only supporting FSR3 but at the moment (on PTR) there is no FSR due to the implementation of UE 5.6 which AMD currently does not support. Your question about FSR 4 is separate from this but I would imagine Intrepid would add FSR 4 as well later on but currently they only have FSR 3.

The current version of animal husbandry in the game is not at all what the end version will feel like. It’s mostly placeholder. They haven’t said it will be changing at the start of phase 3, but it will at some point during phase 3.

my wife and i are looking to buy a couple of 3rd wave bundles today. will there be gaps between the alphas and betas or between beta and launch? like long periods of time where there is no access or will it be continuous access until launch from here on out?

i saw somethin saying that phase 3 was supposed to go until beta, which they thought would be a year or so, but dunno if there will be chunks of downtime before launch?

They have said that there will not be gaps, but like anything else, that can change. The betas are meant to be short and sweet for final polish and bug fixing.

2nd Wave(current) is 5 days a week.
Beta will likely be in a year from Wave 3, assuming normal development time.

i have some pretty busted hands and i use mostly keys on the right side of the KB these days. most games it's not a problem, but some devs just forget that left handed people or people with wonky hands exist lol
