Quick question for the community about defensive stats (sorry if this has already been asked):
I’d like to better understand how the defense system works. For example, cloth armor is said to offer more protection against magic. Are magic resistance and mitigation calculated separately?
In other words, when you’re hit by a spell, does magic resistance reduce the damage first, and then mitigation applies afterwards?
Or is magic resistance directly factored into the overall mitigation calculation?
Not sure I’m being super clear, so feel free to correct me if needed!

Open your hero panel, on the right side you will see your base stats and then several, i think 6/7, available drop downs for phys offense, phys def, magic offense, magic defense, etc. Within those drop downs if you hover the stats you will see the breakdown and how stats contribute to your percentages. If you hover the stats at the top it will show you what points in the stat do, one point in strength gives 'x' amt of phys power yada yada. Hope that helps! Id imagine theres a more thorough mathematical breakdown somewhere but hopefully that can get you started

Why would the game require someone to be apprentice certification in farming to be able to plant apprentice tier rootballs in freeholds? This makes no sense to me. It makes them pointless to even sell on the marketplace to other freehold owners if you require everyone who wants to plant higher than novice tier rootballs to be a farmer.

Depends on your rig honestly, some ppl have a good time some ppl run into issues. There are quests but not all are complete and if you spam 'f' (interact) when going theough dialog or at the end of a quest before you can hit accept completion, you can brick a lot of quests for characters. The mob grinding is peoples way of farming 'open area raids' as i like to call them, and while not necessary, it can really expedite the lvling process. HOWEVER, you can easily gain levels solo and following quests and the surplus token guide. Just know, assume everything can and will kill you. Good hunting

This wasn't really the point I was going after. I'm very familiar with growing into a craft, but this specific case seemed rather odd with the current features of freeholds. Maybe it would make more sense if the intention is that you could invite a farmer to come plant them for you, but you can't atm. I realize its alpha but these intended restrictions on rootballs when those freehold features aren't available atm really make it more difficult to test, especially when there is no heads up about what other requirements you need to have until you've made the investment.

@hushed hatch you're also right in principle, if it's an apprentice-level item, it makes sense that it requires the matching certification. But in this case, the logic of progression clashes with the current Alpha limitations, which leads to frustration during testing.

In the end, this kind of feedback is exactly what helps refine the game before launch. But well, it’s an Alpha, and we’ll just have to wait and see if they add some sort of in-game warning or alternative mechanic to ease testing.

My cpu is doing fine at around 50% usage and memory is at about 80%. However my GPU is sitting at 100% contant and I think it is really bottle necking me.

most quests will have icons on your map for the different tasks. Striders vigilant are typically under a canopy style tent a bit away from node city embersprings within the riverlands, from my experience. This quest is almost definitely included in phase 2 (previous phase) beginner guides because of its efficiency to get gear

If you mean skills and skill points, then yes, if you are in a node or housing you can respec those (intended mechanic) If you are talking base archetype, then no. Secondary archetype can be changed through a time sink and quest mechanic, not on the fly. You cannot respec skills in the wild or halfway down into a dungeon for example.

After getting to listen to the YouTube edit for summoner I noticed that they never actually mentioned whether or not each variant of pet would have their own skill tree. Otherwise I'm wondering how well it will work. As for every class you kind of have to build up and specialize and once respecing goes away or at the very least becomes harder than just clicking the button at the bottom and changing after every fight, you're not going to be able to quick swap to fill a role like we can now. So how will that differ in the summoner to be able to allow them to be that fill character?.

They have stated it will not be particularly easy to respec. They suggested a quest might need to be completed. The intention is that respeccing is possible but not "on the fly" or before and after every fight.

Respeccing your secondary archetype is a time sink and quest related. Respeccing your abilities can be done in housing or node settlement boundaries. Until they decide to change it, since it does have the blurb "something we will look at once in testing"

When they are ready. Intrepid puts stuff out once they have it to a place they feel it is ready for prod. They are doing a react sort of phase of development, so as problems occur, other features may get pushed to later to be implemented. So until you see the changes happen, you most likely won't know.

The longer out a developer here says something is planned to occur, the higher the chance it will get pushed to even later. If they say "tomorrows patch" then it has a pretty good chance of coming, if they say "in a week" it will probably be two. If it is a month or more they just guessing.

It is a "1 primary archetype per character" (the "class" you pick in character creation) type of game so if you want to play a bunch of different primary archetypes then you'll need "alts", but it's not a "you need alts to progress gameplay efficiently like Lost Ark" game

1. What is the optimal level difference between party members for effective XP gain?

   • For example, if one player is level 20 and another is level 30, will XP penalties apply?

2. How much level difference is acceptable between a player and a mob for decent XP and loot?

   • Is there a cutoff point where mobs give no experience or loot due to being too low level?

I'm asking to better plan leveling with friends and avoid inefficiencies. Any insights from testing or confirmed info would be appreciated!

If the difference of levels in a party is 10 levels or more, you're going to have issues with some people not getting XP

If you're killing enemies that are 10 levels or more difference from your level, that's when you have issues with mobs not dropping loot

i have a fairly decent computer, but after the last patch the lag builds up to the point that its unplayable after about 10 min then i have to relog and rinse and repeat. is there a memory leak or some similar issue that is know that they are working on or is it just me?

Hey Chalk, you're definitely not alone, a few people have reported similar issues after the latest patch. What you're describing (gradual performance drop until you relog) does sound like a memory leak or some kind of resource accumulation issue.

Intrepid hasn’t made an official statement yet confirming a memory leak, but based on community feedback and patterns like yours, it's possible something in the new build is causing it. You might want to:

Check Task Manager (if you're on Windows) and monitor memory usage of the game over time.

Try lowering shadows, view distance, and post-processing to see if it slows the buildup. (For now) Alpha things XD

Report it on the forums or in a support ticket, especially with your specs and a description like the one you gave, it helps Intrepid track these issues faster.

Yes, in my case I gained about 20% fps after the unreal engine upgrade. Stuttering still persists, and graphical glitches like texture pop ups occur, when I do a 180° for example (Texture is like 240 pixels and loads up after a second to max resolution).
But other than that, everything works better for me

This error usually means a layer of our authentication process is failing for you. It can be due to a variety of reasons (anything from your firewall blocking the launcher, to back-end services not working). It's essentially a generic 'can't connect'. The best thing to do is to contact CS, who will get your logs from you to troubleshoot. I'd doublecheck things like your VPN, firewall, any security programs for sure though.

Did you futz with the recipe to play around with inputs? If so, back out of the crafting table, open it up, put the ingredients in (don’t futz), then craft it.

ie if you open the table, put in 10 rare thread + 10 uncommon thread.. put in the other ingredients… then take out a rare thread and replace it with an uncommon thread… you won’t be able to craft it.

I’ve been meaning to screen record it and submit it on discord, because it’s 100% reproducible. Very easy to bug out the crafting tables by tinkering.

You can reset it by 1) backing out of the table, or 2) staying in the table, selecting a different recipe, then selecting the one you wanted.

Relogging will work (unless you tinker with it again) but it is overkill.

Hi User! mmmm, since the game was working earlier and now crashes right at the loading screen, even after driver updates, repair, and reinstall it could be tied to a corrupted cache or a temporary config issue.

Delete game cache/settings folders (only if you're comfortable):

Or anything under Saved in the installation directory.

Back them up, then delete and relaunch the game.

Some software (like RGB tools or screen recorders) can conflict with launch. Try a clean boot if you're unsure.
