Yes, for Wave 3 / Phase 3 starting August 4th, there will be a complete wipe on the fresh start server, which is meant to offer a clean, untouched experience. hot fix merge will happen on May 1st

The existing servers from previous testing will be merged, not wiped, Intrepid wants to test how merging works with retained progress, while also giving players the option of starting fresh.

So if you want a clean slate, the new server is where to go. Otherwise, progress on the merged servers will continue from where you left off!

My levelling process to 20 involved just 2 or 3 dungeons for 3 or 4 hours and the rest was content and play loops. It only felt grindy for 2 levels when I solo'd mobs for XP and Glint. So IMO there is no grind to 20, unless you want to do it quickly.

With the servers transitioning to 24/7 testing in a few months it means those servers will be up all the time which invokes a cost. $100 for 3+ years of nigh uninterrupted testing is a fine deal imo.

Most people won't be interested in the type of testing Ashes is doing because it is genuine alpha testing. It's not "the game is 99% complete" alpha testing, it's genuine "none of the systems are even remotely finished, the UI, content, features, systems, art, lighting, graphics, combat, classes, artisan classes, etc." are all far far from complete.

I know there are few posts already about multiboxing, but since i saw an old answer from @idle siren saying he was fine with multiboxing (always when u dont script or macro), im trying to get an answer to this: am i able to buy a second account and use it to process only? I mean not even to fight a mob when the 2 accounts are running at same time, just to stay in town and help me to trade/process the mats i get from my main account? At the same time. If you completely log out of one account and log into the other you would be fine. The problem with the plan of having a second account "just for processing" is that higher level processing will require your character to be higher adventuring level to achieve those results. Which kinda negates the need for a second account, only so many hours in the day, only so many keypresses you can do. And if you try to automate it, you gonna lose one if not both accounts. Look to the wiki under artisanship and they have talked about intended plans for gathering, crafting, and processing and how you won't have a bunch of just parked alts doing it without risk on a freehold or in a city.

Most likely not. Xsolla has a shit reputation and is well known for screwing over mid and small sized developers. They were lucky to get out of the agreement when they did.

They spoke to this in a livestream. Basically all the bug reports are put on a big notice board that is in one of the relevant work areas as they come in live, then they are moved to the various teams that they apply to. They get seen. The more of the same bug that gets reported the better.

I think it’s just a confusion with phrasing. I can’t think of a simple way to phrase that where it is 100% clear what is happening with multiple paragraphs.

It is also not set in stone as it says “may”.

I’m assuming the permanently just means that the next time they come up will be freshly wiped servers.

But it is unclear if what they mean by that is they could come down in say June to push people to the remaining single server which would feel really bad for the fresh start players on Resna.

Lag issues are a result of your internet connection. If you are talking about graphics issues in game like stuttering and others, then various people report different issues. Some people report they get fine with "lower" hardware, it is just luck each iteration. The test client is not optimized and won't be for a long while. Most have found that playing with various settings will allow them to get to passable performance. There are multiple threads on the forums by people posting what has worked for them. Good luck.

As more and more people experience those issues in that area, Intrepid will notice and reset the server worker, or in extreme cases, do a whole realm down/up. The intention is for just like any other mmo for progression to be kept. There is not a "seasonal wipe" mechanic planned for the servers. During testing it has to be done at certain points to give them the data they need and to clean up problems. The whole point of testing. As certain servers get weak and lose population (a well known issue over the lifespan of any mmo) they will merge weaker servers into stronger ones in the same region. Those guidelines as they are currently planned are on the wiki. The next round of testing is for them to test those merge mechanics and fix any problems. Those who play a game with persistence would be rightfully upset if they didn't, and after the game was live, lost some of their shinies.

hello everyone, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but.... I took a break from Alpha 2 for a few months, and now the game does not launch from the launcher anymore. I have reinstalled the launcher and the game (clear installs after also deleting the folders C:\Users[User]\AppData\Local\AOC and C:\Users[User]\AppData\Local\Intrepid Studios). I have also found this proposed fix in the Known Issues Forum topic https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/61592/alpha-two-known-issues-list-read-me-first , however removing + installing OR repairing the MSVC redistributables install, both for x32 and x64, did not fix this either (after restarting Windows). Any ideas on what else I could do? I basically cannot enter the Alpha 2 anymore.

Hey guys just bringing up a general talking point, me and two buddies just bought wave 3 access. Can anyone explain why forced PvP is being put in the game when PvP/forced PvP games/mmos dies quite fast! I’ve been following the game on and off for a while. But as it stands I left star citizen because the forced PvP gameplay basically killed most of the player base. My old org of 300 players completely left, there’s only 2-8 people who remain from it. Any and all comments would be welcome in discussing how we can keep ashes from the same fate of forced PvP! I would like to add, guild wars 2 balanced the PvP and pve mmo system quite nicely, as did archage before it went pay to win and PvP was literally a griefer dps heaven with witch builds and tank burst dps etc. thoughts??

The game isn’t an open arena. Players cannot freely kill one another. Killing a player that is not willing to fight back results in corruption which, if you die with, will cause you to lose worn gear. In my experience, there is very little PvP of that style occurring in the game currently. There are however many types of content that require you to be flagged for PvP to participate in.

You are correct. Starting May 1 we will have one Alpha Two testing realm. This is Shol (US East)

We plan to use the rest of Phase II to do stress testing. While we'll have more realms in the future, once we transition to realm stress testing on May 1 we'll be going down to one realm.

Correct. The minimum specs were released at the beginning of A2 and have not been updated in months. As the client iterates, more is added, and the minimum storage requirements will go up. Along with the fact that during installation the process uses more temporary storage than what the actual client ends up at.

But usually they start around 10am (if previous testing is an indicator, it will have pushed times) The fresh start time for Shol is 10am PST on the 1st. Google "10am May 1st in my time" which for you will probably be 2-3am on the 2nd. Also look in #news and #alpha-two-news as they often give time tags that auto convert to your time.

Since they are normally down for two days, that means they won't appear again. Tomorrow, they plan to merge the two US servers and have them up for at least a day, they have not given a time for that to happen. Then the day after that they plan to open the single fresh start server that is Shol. That is the 10am PST on May 1st time (which does not have an auto conversion tag in Discord yet, only the email and link to main site)

Please help. I'm trying to figure out if the EU server is actually physically located in Europe. I've seen people's opinions vary.

I have connected to Lotharia and checked all TCP Connections (AOCClient-Win64-Shipping.exe) and all show a latency of 100 to 120 ms. I also checked where their Remote addresses are located and they are all US based. However, many people say that most of the real-time actions in the game are injected with UPD protocols, not TCP.

In fact, I tried playing on all 3 servers and I didn't seem to notice a difference. I would appreciate your thoughts.

maybe a stupid question or just a hot take: Why do we have different races? Is it planned for different races to have a "perk" or is it just cosmetic? Dwarfs seem the have an edge in PVP being harder to target in certain situations because of their height LUL

All races are currently cosmetic. There is a "backgrounds" system planned for later in development that will add the possibility of a racial augment that can be applied to some abilities. But your actual race appearance will have no bearing on that. Maybe you were a Dunir that grew up in a tree on Sanctus and think you are an elf. Currently, there are limitations on the number of professions a single character can have, so everyone is forced to create alternate characters for this purpose. However, the ability to transfer between characters is currently missing. We have to ask someone else to help transfer items or resources. This is an extremely important part of the game.

They're really not going to release the download key until an hour or two before the game launches? That removes most players that only have wave 3 key on the most interesting day of the entire wave. Why would they do that?

For what it’s worth, a fresh install is often similar in length to a patched install due to all the file changes at this stage of development.

In other words, you actually gain very little downloading an outdated client now - as opposed to the fresh client before servers go up.

Similar in length might be pretty subjective to the speed of the user. And even if half of the files were hit (more than that seems very unlikely, since that would mean updating very obscure things that don't need editing), it's still an intentional choice to restrict the download so close to the deadline.

That means that slower connections lose the entire day, and best case scenario is you still have to be prepped right as it releases.

Furthermore, there's no good reason for it. It's such an easy thing to just open it a day earlier.

You want the download to be available earlier. The download is available when the patch is actually ready for that specific time. That's really all there is to it. It's not going to take that long to download, you'll get in soon enough.

Yes, I understand what you stated. I'm a software engineer. I have developed programs with incremental packages, and the patching systems themselves. I understand how patching works, and how it applies here.

My point is that it's a very silly decision to wait until the day of to release the first patch, when providing one the day before would potentially alleviate many, many hours of downloading.

From what others have stated, the size is 120 gb+. On my connection, that's 9 hours. And that's not inconsequential. It's something that, if a large patch was offered the day before, and an incremental patch was still needed the day of, would be a very substantial deal.

And for someone paying $100 to be part of this project, it's not unreasonable to think it's a bit silly that this isn't addressed.

To be fair, that's an extremely unusual example. 9 hours to download 120GB would be a 30 Mbps connection? That's 10x slower than the cheapest plan it's possible to buy from my local cable or fiber provider, barring weird senior citizen/government subsidized plans.
