In March, we saw the Story Arc livestream. This was a quest that is shared between players and changes who occupies a POI, what NPCs u'll find there, the appearance of the zone, etc.
The events are popping while u perform your gameplay other gameplay loops like killing monsters, gathering, etc. When an event appears, you can join in for some rewards. No matter if the event fails or succeed, it will be noted by the world in the background. The world will then decide when enough event has happen, when a node levels and/or other trigger happens if Story Arcs should happen or if other greater events should occur.
The goal of events is basically to make the world feel more dynamic, encourage players to engage with eachother and get rewards

Also another not personal benefit would be to the node you are currently gaining exp in. Cause all actions are said to "feed" a nodes debt to offset atrophy. So while you may not be getting a tick for you, you would still be contributing at a possible higher rate than if not rested.

Keys won as part of event participation or from content creators are assigned by Intrepid. In the rare case where Steven has given keys to a content creator outside of their "content creator program" which is still in its registration phase and not active currently, those keys are codes that can be assigned as wished. Gifting of packages and keys is not allowed unless those keys were specifically part of packages sold during crowdfunding, and those were all beta keys, none were for alpha.

Alpha 2 will be coming out in 2024, the release of the game has no timeframe currently. You have the option to support the game through these packs until January 17th. If you get even the cheapest pack, you will be able to upgrade beyond January 17th to a higher tier pack if you want.

I would like to suggest one idea on how intrepid interacts with the community when it comes to taking feedback, suggestions and complaints.  The idea would roughly be something of a hierarchical and a counsel type of system, which can be available only to players who have great achievement in game and have the backing and respect of many players. This would be a representative layer between the player base and Intrepid, so the making of decisions is not left to the average players and the influence of the crowd is eliminated.
Other MMORPG's have these systems, the one I know of is in EVE Online, so we have examples.

That's kind of already been implemented with the PI > KS > A0 > A1 > A2 backers being pushed into testing at different stages, therefore intrepid didn't have the entire "crowd" feedback right from the start and can base their previous feedback from smaller tests to the feedback they get during larger tests to see the difference and will be able to tell the difference from herd mentality to honest feedback from testers who spend money to actually help. But I don't see something like that happening in the game at this point because the influence right now will be what the community at large wants in A2 👍🏻

firstly it would be very difficult for even a large alliance of guilds to control the largest nodes. these have massive populations relative to the size of guilds

if guilds somehow do manage to control one or more large nodes the developers dont want to diminish that achievement as it will likely be an extremely difficult task to attain and keep hold of this control

even small shifts in the alliance structure or internal politics within the guilds could cause the whole thing to collapse

this is intended emergent gameplay that the developers wish to encourage

Considering Steven himself said his own guild had over 14000 people signed up to it's newsletter, and guilds in AoC already "have" over 1000 people in their guild, guild sizes aren't really going to be a limiting factor. Think the main deterrant will be Intrepid themselves. Whether they think it's healthy for a game for an alliance of guilds to suffocate a server for an extended period of time, and whether just having sheer numbers is an "achievement" they want to reward. Good thing we'll see it happen in A2, if it'll happen at all, and see how healthy it is/Intrepid's response.

But to speculate slightly, the developers actually want there to be some degree of drama and instability in guilds and alliances to act as a counter to unstoppable mega corps dominating a server

the drama is ok imo when it's related to like betreyal on the siege and such. When it comes to stealing resources that entire guild / alliance farmed for months, that's like stealing their IRL time too in some sense. I dont think it's good for the game and imo instead of having guild / alliance banks, Devs should make party banks. Think about it as guild have various fractions inside it and each side would be made of a certain numbers of players who play in the same party most of the time. Having guild bank spread in to several smaller banks would greatly reduce the chance of all the players suffering from one A$hole

I think to be clear you might only be able to play during alpha 2. If you buy the pack woth alpha 2 beta 1 and beta 2 you will only be allowed to play during test times. Not outside of those. It shows game play time, aprox 3 months for each phase if i remember correctly

However, they'll almost certainly add alpha access back to the store once Alpha 2 gets closer. They just want to test with the current testers to make sure everything works fine. They did the same for Alpha 1. Stopped sales, and then once they sorted everything and stuff was stable, they readded A1 access to the store shortly before A1 began

So don't worry if you don't get access before Jan 17th

They just want to test with the current testers to make sure the game doesn't break and die first. Once the spot testing proves to be stable, they'll re-add A2 access sales

@worldly viper It is required to participate directly with the node you aim to have a freehold with, as the currency to upkeep their cost is tied to that and is not transferable. Mega guilds will not be able to funnel resources for maintenance to a single individual, that is required of the individual. And each account can only have one player on each server with a citizenship (which is required to have a freehold). On top of this is a cap to guild sizes (which can be upgraded at the sacrifice to other benefits) and it is really hard to hit any sort of end game and keep it, or for guilds to dominate everything for a large amount of time.

At this point, I don't consider them "Windows" games... they are games written for the Win32/Win64/DirectX API... and Windows is not the only implementation of that API, it isn't even the only commercial implementation of that API, (or the only Microsoft implementation!) so... I'd be pretty disappointed if there was a negative response to wanting to run any given software in that particular implementation... I'd like to see enthusiastic support for it, especially given the popularity of the Steam Deck, and Ayaneo's upcoming implementaiton of the same platform for their handhelds... HOWEVER, realistically... I understand that getting something launched is a massive undertaking and testing on what might still be considered a somewhat niche platform is not high on the list of priorities... BUT, we in the FOSS community are working the other way around... if a game doesn't work, we fix the platform.... it's nice to get help from the software vendors, and you might have noticed the Microsoft issued a hotfix for Forza Horizon 5 recently to address an issue running on the Steam Deck with Proton... BUT, we ultimately want software vendors to have to make very minimal investment in that. For example, CCP originally released a Mac/Linux version of Eve Online... which must have taken considerable effort, and in the end, the community came to them and agreed that the Linux/Mac clients could be dropped in exchange for a little unofficial support of the Wine/Proton stack... I have personally reported a number of bugs to CCP while running that way, and never once have any of those bugs not been able to be reproduced on Windows.... At this point, this thing is more like Windows than Windows in a number of cases... IE, we can run some older stuff that no-longer works properly Windows!

Think your original intention was "Will they have this?" The answer is what has been given by them. They have no plans to support it at this time, but may sometime in the future. Their statements about their intention to keep their API use by others limited, and their use of EAC in previous iterations (which I know often gives Proton/Wine users conniptions) would indicate they will look long and hard at the impacts of "it just takes you enabling the option in EAC!" before doing so. But again, that is just my speculation, and all we have to go on is their past statements that are archived on the wiki. "Valve has announced that developers who use Easy Anti-Cheat for their games now have a much easier setup for Proton and the upcoming Steam Deck.

As we wrote about recently, it turned out that the announcement from Epic Games on supporting Easy Anti-Cheat for Proton was not as easy as expected. It required an SDK update for Epic Online Services, something developers noted was not exactly simple."

Yes, upgrade to the latest SDK, and tick a box... but that was the advice more than a year ago, I'd speculate that especially after a number of other upgrades, including UE5 itself, probably mean that's going to be in place already, so it should be just a case of "tick the box"... it's not been made clear yet if EAC will be included, but suffice to say, the reason I have Alpha2 access, is as much to help ensure that Proton is ready to run this game... as it is because I want to play it, which I obviously do... having backed it in 2018 I think...

BTW, that "tickbox", simply ensures that the required library is in the packet... and that extra library is not used on Windows, so other than a few hundred kilobytes extra on the 50GB (est.) game, there's not really much downside.

I feel you, and this is turning more into a discussion than a question/answer thing. I suggest giving your feedback in the other channels or on the forums. There are various other "Will it have this?" threads concerning Linux and Wine/Proton already there. From the various aggregate discussions that I have seen, Intrepid does not plan to allow "3rd party" developers or hobbyists to add functionality to their game. They plan to keep their access to their API as limited as possible. And will consider anything that is altered that impacts their planned security measures, known and unknown to be a violation of their terms. Doubt you will get more of an update at this time beyond their normal "that may be something we look at in the future"

So, I was playing Archeage recently and I remembered this thing where anyone could hyjack your vehicle unless u put an "owner's mark" on there. I didn't mind this when running carepacks because it added this tug-of-war to the gameplay that was oddly fun. BUT, personally not a fan of this anywhere else, it made it impossible to park your trade cart or dock your boat..which could add to immersionm, and just added unnecessary headache outside of tradepack delivery. Would've been better if only vehicles carrying tradepacks could've been hyjacked.

So I'm wondering, will Ashes of Creation have this type of system in the game?
