Freeholds are sizable player housing plots that can be situated within the Zone of influence (ZOI) of a Village (stage 3) or higher.
Freeholds are limited to one per account.
Freeholds are approximately half an acre in size. The footprint of a freehold does not change with node progression.

so that leaves only a few hundred freeholds in a place with 10k players
It will probably also be the priciest type to get, most people will be in apartments if they are a citizen.
If I can, I'd like to be a nomad until I can afford a freehold. Although with the way this game works, I'm pretty sure that won't be feasible ๐ฆ
I understand that this is a late game thing but it seems like it is gonna be hard to get your hands on it if you don't team up qith a big guild
like will solo players be able to be super strong if they put in enough time or will you have to be in a guild to be of any worth
You can be a very wealthy player without being in a guild, even without that if you get one as soon as a node gets to tier 3. It will probably be decently cheap
Combat is tough to judge right now because we haven't seen a ton

You do need to do group content to achieve endgame gear so I suppose joining a guild helps unless you find a static or something
There's not going to be a group-finder so you'll need to actively seek out other players to group up with for raids and other multi-person content

There will be a bounty hunter system in game but any mercenary type stuff will be player driven. such as merc guilds and such
Also, I believe they stated that you can achieve end-game gear via crafting that's equivalent to gear dropped from group content. Although, I'm pretty sure they also said that certain mats used for said crafting gear can only be obtained from certain group content.
bounty hunter system will be tied to corruption, but any merc work will have to be socially made through zone chats or connections

so you could be a max level crafter and then others will bring you the mats they got and pay you so your still usefull in that way?
so my question is do you lose anything for someone else crafting the item
Thats how the artisan system will have to work. it'll work so that all artisan jobs rely on others. gatherers give the crafters the resources, the crafters make the item to be sold.
You could play the game as nothing but a crafter, theoretically, if you really want to. Others can provide you the materials you need to craft things as long as you level the relevant artisan classes up.

Yes, and you'll be able to save the character you make so that it's ready to go immediately and you don't need to spend another hour remaking everything

i have multiple friends whose biggest concern is large orgs controling entire servers.
What are the current plans to prevent large guilds/orgs from just creating an alliance with 5 maxed out guild by themselves and then take over control over the largest nodes?
This also means just taking up all the citizen space in the nodes so random groups can only go to the small cities.
my understanding is that all bonuses are for all citizen expect something like spezial bonuses for mayors right?

Nodes are not meant to be rewarding for large groups
That is what Castles are meant for as they directly benefit the guild
Nodes is for everyone, you cant control who comes and goes only what types of policies/buildings and who youre friendly with
Has the stance been slightly altered on fast travel? From my understanding - Airships were only from Science metro to Science metro. Now, with Steven's comment under the livestream's youtube video: " air ships between metropolises-ai and also a scientific node's vassal network's teleportation options" Does this now encompass all Metros? Citizens of the same node can not flag on each other and attack is that correct? They can only attack each other if some other mechanic flagged them such as caravans or open seas?
This is not correct. You can 'flag' on 'anyone' in the cities, in the wilds, etc. However, during a node siege, citizens of the node in conflict would not be able to fight/kill each other as they would be defenders of the node fighting against those attacking the node.

Has Steven mentioned why he is opposed to having weapon active skills in the game? It seems like it'd cause more bad than good. An example would be the whirlwind skill; it'll really odd for someone to be spinning around with an orb or book and have that animation. Also if they are then planning to make a whirlwind animation for every weapon type then that seems like alot of extra work instead of just making a few active skill per weapon, especially when you consider all of the skill that would need a different animation. Thoughts?

A1 ended August 15th last year. They're currently working on Alpha 2 which is a massive, massive difference from Alpha 1

Gear will have appearance slots (Transmutation/Transmog/cosmetic slots) that are used to copy the appearance of an item (in some cases).
There are rules when applying cosmetics to specific items, unlike costumes, which don't have level restrictions.

How frequently do u drop items on death + is there an item you can equip that will instead be destroyed upon death instead of dropping an item from inventory
You always drop a percentage of your gatherables/processed goods on death. You only have a chnace to drop gear if you are corrupted, the chance to drop increases the more corrupted you are

Green = Non-combatant
Purple = Combatant
Red = Corrupted
Greens drop the default amount of goods. Purples drop half of what Greens drop as an incentive to flag up. Reds drop 4 times more than Green as well as the chance of gear
wow I didn't know this and have been reading up in the wiki. I'm trying to see if there are any benefits to being Non-combatant.
Very interesting to see that "players remain flagged for a period of 90 seconds following their most recent attack on a non-combatant or another combatant." Also interesting to see "players cannot log out while flagged as combatants."
Another interesting thing I didn't know is that the difference between levels of the two players affects the amount of corruption you will gain from attacking. Does this mean there's potential that you attack someone who you don't know the level of and immediately get Corrupted?
As it stands right now, you only gain the corruption when you KILL the (green) player...you are not gaining corruption by just attacking
The corruption mechanic will be heavily tested in Alpha 2

because from what I've read a lot of combat information will be hidden unless you are partied with the person in some way

The open world PvP flagging system is designed to deter people from griefing other players.
Players can participate in open world PvP with one another without having to resort to murder. Players will gank other players, but the intention is for Ashes of Creation to not be a "gank box".

Purple is 90 seconds after your last attack, you cant log out during that. red is when you can only log out after 60 seconds and you gain corruption only if you kill players as purple

Land only has gone from ~218km^2 (old map, not including the ~100km^2 of underrealm) to 450-480km^2 (new map, not including the unknown amount of underrealm).

Hello Strangers, Just joined the channel and saw the discussion on the map size, giving me flashbacks to highschool.
After some thinking, if you look at the map that was showed of in the live stream, you could somewhat calculate how long and wide the world is in km.
If you look at 1200km2 as a perfect square, then it would be roughly 34.6km by 34.6Km
However, the map is more of a rectangle, So i would most likely guess its roughly 46 km by 26 km in size

once you have a pack you are able to buy the cosmetics from future packs individually
you can also upgrade your pack by paying the difference in tiers

So technically we can min/max how many boar kill quests depending on amount of ganking we do that evening?
reducing your kill count doesnt directly remove corruption, it just helps reduce the amount of grinding/dying you need to do to clear it
and dying is essentially exchanging corruption for death penalties, such as XP debit etc
Oh so basically a group of three players who go on a gank fest let's say a quest asks you to kill 15 boar, and that evening combined that group takes out 20 players, you would essentially need to kill 900 boar to get rid of corruption? Would that lead to boar being an endangered species?
we dont know the amount of xp needed to grind away corruption. its not likely to be trivial
and remember you dont get xp for killing low level mobs if you are a high level player

As far as we know, yes you can.
Accepted means you have it in your log but havenโt started the objective yet.
After the town has been raided and ash falls from the sky you find a flyer on the ground reading "We want you! Join the fight!" xD
it basically means when you apply to be a citizen of that node after your node is sieged you don't have to wait for the cooldown period that other nodes may have
It's a wonderful system to have for military nodes. WAIT wait what if you really want to join a node but you are locked into the one already! Solution provoke an asylum node and get invaded. xD

Looking at this table, am I right assuming that: (There may be concept I'm missing)
- The first line define the time to walk from the edge of a Metropolis node to another metropolis 6 nodes, meaning that their ZOI doesn't touch each other and there are other things in-between the two?
- The second line indicate if I'm at center of node 1 and I want to walk to the neighbouring node 2, I would take 2min30s to reach the end of node 1. And then they do touch each other so another 2min30s to go to the other node center?
Line 1 means : If u stand at the South end of Node A -> u need 2.83min to reach the North end of Node A
Line 2 means : If u stand in the Center of Node A -> u need 5min to reach the Center of Node B
Looks strange. 1,415 minute to go from center to the node's border. And 3,585 minutes to reach center of neighbor's node

- Node 1. You are at the center of the node (campment, town or something). Then after x secondes/mines you leave the town area in the wildeness (but still in the ZOI of the node). Then at 2 min 30 (ish obviously you reach the end of the ZOI of the node)
Afaik there is no such zones, so maybe there is mistake in wiki

I've got another question regarding ZOI and Vassal system. (trying to get some facts right for a video ๐ )
Am I right assuming that the ZOI of a node is fixed and won't change, but as the node levels up, they can select neighbouring nodes as vassals (assuming the restrictions of level / max numbers.

From how I remember it being explained, the ZOI grows with the node. So Bigger node, bigger zoi.
This is where I'm confused as you would push another node ZOI in this case (or maybe they overlap then in this case). I was assuming that when you reach lvl 3 you can make the next node your vassal, which would virtually extend your ZOI as you would now have node 2 as your vassal and their ZOI would also be your ZOI.
Once a node hits stage 3, level 3, whatever you wanna call it, it then has the ability to "enslave/subjugate/swallow" other nodes. Think of ZOI as a honey comb or a comparison chart. Your level 3 ZOI is strictly for your node, so whatever is in your ZOI is what you could vassal. Node borders are fixed. ZOI is not. Think of it as states. Oregon becomes dominant and it's influence expands to push into WA and CA.

Yeah, I used a controller in testing. Worked fine, some iterations better than others. Earlier they had some keymapping options on the esc screen, later it didn't. Unreal has it built in, so will be a thing.

Hi everyone im new to the Ashes hype and i started following this game and its progress for few days now. I saw the gear system , the castle battles , pve and pvp and the corrupt system to punish players and such and everything looks really Awesome. Also how towns will be created with the nodes is also a fresh thing in the MMO genre however i have 2 questions for the Nodes and how they work.
First Question: so there will be 4 node types where players can choose to build a town on? and how will the nodes be balanced ? i feel like some nodes are gonna be stronger or better than the other one ? (i apologise if i understood the concept wrong i just want to know things โค๏ธ )
Second question has to do less with the node system but here we go : Can a guild leader control more than 1 town / Castle ? if so will the player get better loot than other players meaning the player will have a snowball effect and become crazy strong? how does that work exactly

The combat's currently going through a big revamp so we can't say what there will or will not be regarding the classes. I'm assuming you mean stuff like the Ninjas ninjutsu system where you can combine the 3 ninjutsu signs to make different spells. We haven't seen or been told anything like that yet

It just seems like the most reasonable thing to do since it will cut travel times. And its hard to think most players wouldn't have that idea.
I do know that resources have either long respawns or don't respawn in the same area. So possibly people moving outwards to collect the best resources or have the most efficient gathering
Node type will spread people out, since node type is fixed.
So if you want a scientific node and the one you get is economic, you'll have to relocate.
Some strategy can come into play as well, since you could possibly use the terrain to your advantage depending on what's around the node.

After some thinking about node wars, if you would like to take down another node, would it be best to take down node after node starting from the outside vassal nodes or go straight to the heart? Will the defending node be able to cut off the attacking node's seige weapons from reaching the node? (Which might be why you want to strategically take down certain nodes at a time) Or does the attacking node have some sort of immunity until the war actually begins? I can see this leading massive epic long stretched out wars over the span of weeks or months against enemy kindgoms, but I can also see this being potentially tedious. What do you guys think?
I also am really hoping for the potential for lots of logistics in the game. If there are incentives to trade with other nodes, like if a node doesn't have a large access to a particular resource, can we cut off those supply chains? How will naval blockades play into these kinds of factors. (These are just food for thought questions as I'm very excited for ashes)

The pack comes with the current items in the pack.. each month after you will be able to then buy any new cosmetics individually up to the same type that are in the pack you purchase. The top tier pack would enable you to purchase any of the cosmetics each month individually after.
Have not seen any "camping" type of feature along with the caravan as of yet.. camping might be dangerous as a caravan is a moving PvP zone.

Question about the war / attacking the nodes : if a guild declares war or an attack and people get a message 2 days before that there is gonna be a war , do the people who have a house in that node /city lose their loot if the attackers wins ? cant the defender just pick up his/her stored loot and run away or just wait until the battle is over ?

If I catch someone doing a merchant ship between harbors, what are my options to yoink the loot once his merchant destroyed ? Since I can't spawn a merchant where I destroyed his ship and I'm guessing spawning a mule in the middle of the ocean is kind of dumb with limited storage space

if you ever played runescape, they have a system where you can exchange goods for a "note" of the item. These can be carried in high numbers but must be exchanged before they can be used.

If you kill a player with the notes they should drop based on the player killing rules since they would be gatherables, just in noted form (50% if purple, 100% if green)

So I came across an interesting question on reddit.
Assuming we all know how the pvp flagging system works and punishments for a pvp death.
As I understand it, a noncombatant is incentivised to attack back and become flagged as a combatant and in doing so he will loose less material if they were to die.
If this is the case, what happens when a corrupted player attacks a noncombatant and the noncombatant loses.
Will the noncombatant be flagged as a combatant in the middle of the fight incase they die, and if they happen to win they get reverted back to noncombatant?
Right, I get that a NC doesn't get flagged, but does a NC lose more mats than a Combatant
And if a NC loses more mats than a Combatant the NC has no choice but to run from the corrupted player, fighting keeps him as NC and at a loss of mats higher than a Combatant.

Yes you lose more mats as a non combatant, combatants get that penalty reduced
This is an incentive to fight back if your gatherables are worth more than giving your attacker corruption

Well yes, but if the "prey" fighting back isn't flagged as a combatant they are going to lose max mats. Taking a bit of their decision away.
As a NC getting attacked, if I stay and fight I have the potential to lose max mats, I might just run every time, because there is literally no incentive to fight back against a corrupted player.

How long do elves live for, and what is their age development like? If they live for say, 4k years. Does puberty and adult growth start at like 500? Or does it start at normal human levels, but they just have a really long adulthood?

No one can give you a complete answer because we simply donโt have enough information to know if you can just play in the ocean. What we can tell you that it may be difficult because 1) while we will have raids and bosses in the ocean, that doesnโt mean they will cover 1-50 and 2) to traverse the oceans youโll need boats and those will likely require massive resources youโll probably have to gather on land (and may even require certain level of nodes by the water).
Thatโs not even including logistical things like where do you sell your loot, where do you repair, etc.
i had a question regarding this statement from the pre-order site:

Once you purchase a pack, you can buy future cosmetic pieces that are from the same level as your pack using $
So if you get voyager plus pack, you can buy all future cosmetics like costumes and caravans. If you get voyager, you wonโt have access to those costumes unless you โupgradeโ your pack level in in the future (pay the difference I believe)
I wonder as a Thief, can you steal from NPCs or PLAYERS. Maybe from their home bases or people themselves?
There won't be any system to steal from players like that. There might be something with NPCs with the Thief Guild, but we don't have any details on that yet

I think nodes having their own laws and forms of punishment etc. could be an amazing stretch goal for the game. The scope for AOC is huge and so I feel like expanded law & order to compliment node politics is the only thing that's missing.

So a player can truly max only one Profession like crafting. But you can also level abit of other stuff such as gathering or other professions ? Or how does that work ? What are the limits

You can only be a master in 1 of the 3 branches of professions; gathering/processing/crafting
within that branch you'll be able to master more then one, but not all

So in the insane event when you want to yourself have max professions in everything, you'll need multiple alts
They are working of a "Decisions Matter" type principle so unlike games like ff14 you just cant get it all on one

Different races have different aesthetics and areas they're suited to by lore. The tulnar for instance will have a starting area near/in the Underrealm while the elves will likely have a starting zone within a forest or jungle. The NPCs in that area will be affected by where they are in the world I believe, so you'll encounter more tulnar NPCs in the Underrealm than you would in, say, the desert.

Just jumped on the game info after several years of just knowing it exists ๐ so I was thinking about the siege/node mechanics and I found one flaw which I wonder if it can be addressed or maybe I just missed something. Say you have metropolis node and a friendly guild with different node probably outside your vassal area. If that friendly guild raises siege on your city and just stands there for 2 hours without attacking, they just gave the metropolis another 2 months of uncontested period. (Ofc having the battles is the fun part but there will always be cheesy people trying to stay in power by whatever means)

So the friendly guild is your neighbour than staying happy eith being vassal ๐

Ok so metropolis(t6) cant attack lower so they cant cheese their friendly (t5) node. But this t5 friend can phantom siege metropolis. That way second neighbour cant attack metropolis. I guess it really depends on how expensive siege scroll will be. But 2 month safe period will probably make it worth. I would hope people wont do that but it's mmorpg. People abuse/cheese what they can ๐

WoW also had no content at launch. They had like 2 end game raids and the only reason the game survived was because people back then were inefficient and took 10 months just to level to 60 whereas nowadays people hit that in a week. If WoW released nowadays it'd be DOA.
Games back in the late 90s/early 2000s were also easier to make (worse graphics, less content expected). Dark Age of Camelot released in 2002 and only took 2 years and $3m to make. Fast forward to now and the dude that made DAoC is trying to make Camelot Unchained. Its been in development since 2012 and had multiple times more funding than DAoC had and still isn't
