I've never asked your opinion on what you consider a zerg no, I just assumed. ESO did have good ball pvp, I played and ran a hardcore guild during Imperial City, before infinite death sets were a thing. Proxies were a thing yes, but they weren't an automatic win. Is 24 vs 24 ball fighting to you? I have no idea, but doing that at the highest level required a ridiculous amount of aoe buff and debuff stacking and shields and rotating engagements

As basic as tnl's pvp was, there were half a dozen things happening every engagement if not more. Engage tanks going in and vorpal aoeing, synchronized flash waves(both first set and second set), cover tanks peeling off rats, rats going in to enemy lines, xbow bombers hitting back lines to dive, on top of healers trying to keep their flash wave or tank clumps together.

I think ESOs PvP had a lot of aspects, the fact that a smaller group could annihilate a larger group was pretty peak. But it turned into spring spam relatively quickly. I stopped playing when my Templar coudl put ont he bogdan set, resistances. and tank an entire zerg and never fucking die.

OTHER THAN PERFORMANCE I would say that TnL has the worst large scale that I've played in a loooooooong time.

Literally just jousts with 0 actual fights - sure there's a method to the madness in the jousting, but it's still just jousting.

ESO had great PVP. Zergs existed yes, but there were enough anti zerg mechs as well baked in. Every game has its balancing issues, but overall ESO was really good and well balanced at all sizes and levels of play. Its biggest issue was Cyrodiil lag, which they still havent figured out 12 years later

The problem you run into with large scale world pvp can be classified pretty simply. Either ttk is too fast in large scale or ttk is too slow. Too slow makes it drag on, too fast makes it less skill based. There's a myriad of other issues in both those statements but the essential basics is that it'll never be perfect, and we just have to cope and accept what's okay and what isn't at various stages of a game's life

tbf most of it being too slow across the genre comes from whackamole.

That is to say, it's generally low ttk but it's "balanced" for low ttk and thus defensives/healing are inherently broken to make them feel "good".

Which in turn leads to the brick wall vs glass whackamole issue where you're basically instagibbing people or they're back up instantly / the TnL jousting where raids or individual players just collapse instantly / ect... Yet at the same time can all be basically invulnerable, like tanks being able to tank 50 people but then randomly dying to like 4 hits a few seconds later.

Large scale fights in TnL aren't brawls, they're jousts.

You don't get a ton of satisfying stuff occuring within the fight, you kinda just... Obliterate them or they obliterate you, it rarely feels like a good fight and it's over super fast aside from the super fast respawn waves sometimes

Obviously there's a ton of stuff going on within the fight still, but at the end of the day despite fighting everyone on TnL I really don't have a single memory of what I would consider to be a good fight despite knowing for absolute certain that many of the players ARE players who should have been providing good fights, the game just didn't really facilitate it. The victories feel hollow.

If you're generating an advantage by gatekeeping, maybe not information, but in game resources and areas I don't see a problem with that. That's part of the game. I think info should be shared to help people learn and catch up to speed, but there shouldn't be any free passage or anything in game because you're new.

I understand why corruption is the way it is, but it would sure be nice if we could actually pvp over resources instead of having to resort to griefing to pvp. You can't even blame people. The game is made in a fashion where we should be constantly competing for resources, albeit mobs, gathering, locations, etc, and they made it far too punishing to even interact with open world pvp directly.

Let us fight for things. I'd much rather die to players than 20 mobs they dragged on me. If lets say polar wants control of sb, let them send a raid or two and kill everyone with pvp instead of making them grief people out of spots. If people have a problem with it, they can come pvp for sb back.

Game design shifted is all. All contesting exists at the endgame, but that's where you have to grind and play the market to reach gold cap so you can craft your gear first, then you can pvp a little until you have to get ready for the next workbench upgrade. Its a brutal cycle of potential fomo that if you don't have your resources sheets mapped out prior to the phase dropping with every iteration of gear needed along the way... then you'll be left behind the power curve of guilds. Its just a super grindy game now and having multiple accounts and going the crafters route is better for success in the long run ( which it now is).

I understand the grind. This past phase was my first, and I was largely a solo player up until early October. I ended with +7 i29 weapons, 4.5k gold, and every thing else that I planned to craft when benches came online banked and ready to be crafted. Even as a solo player, you can still compete, but you shouldn't expect to compete in all aspects of the game. You have to pick your battles and find your niche.

My main gripe is how a core/fundamental aspect of the game (open world pvp) is being stifled so hard that we are forced to evade the penalties by any means necessary. The game would feel much better if we could organically pvp instead of being forced into griefing to pvp.

Someone posted in here somewhere that crate DRs had been reset (system in other games) and that they were selling for more so those of us who had crates stacked up in different nodes went and sold them. We did it every day whenever prices went up (9g ->13g heroics for example). I don’t think a single crate that was sold was actually created that day by us then people started tweaking when TMs van died and we saw ppl posting SS’s of us in official discord so we lined up a breadline near crate station as a meme to bait the cameramen. Devs took the bait and flip flopped on decisions and succumbed to rule of mob. And if we got actioned cause it wasn’t supposed to DR that’s completely fine but there were guilds on Shol and EU that didn’t get any actions selling far more than us
