I have seen a thousand dipshit chestthumpers come and go over the years. They come in full of piss and vinegar, and leave as shaved kittens varying times later. Everyone used to piss themselves that "X guild is coming to Ashes and is going to ruin it for everyone!" and X guild would sit in chat and or testing and be way less scary once they had buttons to click. Then they would internally blame each other for being those waxed hairless felines and self destruct. You lose a bunch who cry and stomp off to "other games that treat me like I am a big boy now!" and the cycle repeats. And the one or two who remain, seed the next round of dipshittery. Look to the beacons here from like 2018 in the vid, all of the guilds who were supposed hot shit and going to drive Ashes pvp are all dead and gone. there are multiple ways for there to be pvp in this game,
guild wars, node wars, and lawless zones do not require anything of you. so beware or what guild you join, node you become a citizen of, or where you farm. because it could lead to pvp you might not want.
caravans and similar events will also allow people to fight you without flagging. but you have to opt into these events, its not like a normal event in the world.
flagging still exists and is a good way to opt out of most pvp atm, but it also doesnt mean people wont corrupt on you to take stuff from you. so make sure to be aware of your surroundings, and try to have a buddy with you, this is a MMO after all.
there are also big events like seiges that are super fun, but require some work to get started and you have to be accepted into the team, seats are limited(100v100 cap atm).

remember just because you opt out of pvp, doesnt mean the person attacking you also opted out. they just have to deal with the corruption, you arent immune to other people attacks.

I think they are under less pressure at the moment than say a month ago, a lot of people are more comfortable taking breaks when a lot of stuff is broken for Intrepid to fix. They just have a lot of work ahead of them so there isn't much reason to test stuff when we know there's a ton of stuff for them to work on.

I think they clearly have their eyes set on a new fresh start/server wipe date and they are very confident in Harbringers being a benchmark update

Level cap increase is practically a soft wipe though, we'll probably be unlocking whole new tiers of gear.

I also expect when the level cap increases we'll see the stats on all the gear change, I truly believe what we're testing now power/mitigation wise is meant to be the endgame numbers so they'll tweak the stats on all the items to be lower and make the new level 39 items basically equivalent to level 29 gear sets.

There's enough people that will come back to this game on launch because they bought packs, I'm not too worried about player count. It'll have a ton of interest on launch, a ton of players will quit because it isn't the game for them, people will claim the game is dead or dying, and then if it's a good MMO they'll slowly increase the playerbase over time through good content. Excluding all the direct hits to pvp another big hit was also, adding crates + limiting the settlement growth. people are way less inclined to run caravans now because the options are so bad. without other nodes hitting tier 3 there are like so few caravan hand ins it is miserable for van runners to even try.

The game is being advertised as a PvX game. The current flagging system isn't very PvX...it's more of a request to engage in PvP which is so lame. At least with the rotation lawless zones (granted they're in the wrong spots for any meaningful content) PvX is actually in the game. Too many PvE players that use the corruption system to their advantage because they don't want real PvX to happen.

For sure. I'd assume they didn't fully grasp what they were in for in the transition. But that's arguably untrue to a degree.

They lost some good staff in the transition and that signals at least some in the studio were well aware of how much of a reset button was being pushed.

I'd say the restart with the transition to UE5 was more of an opportunity to them than a necessity. They saw the relative success and hype of A1 and an opportunity to make things higher quality with UE5 and went for it. A port from UE4 to UE5 doesn't necessarily mean starting from scratch, if they wanted they could've kept a lot from before

Questing & storyline would have more folx logging in, though short term as content runs out. PVP is always there in whatever state the game is, profs/econ have a long ways to go. The focus on backend makes sense, leaving those still churning the hours ingame to have faith that it'll be the game we've been anticipating all these years.

If anything I want casuals. They took out the New player Experience learning curve which was pvp after level 5 even amongst the low level PoI's. It allowed for organic growth of knowledge from a pvp and pve perspective all the way to level 25. Less travel time from lions hold or wherever to non raid PoI's, organic growth and understanding of pve enemies and pvp scenarios, it also lead to understanding the environments that other classes might thrive in early on.

By catering to crybabies who want free pve, they've made the game boring in the "pvx" design. Now some people are level 25 without having to pvp at all.

I’d say you can play the whole game while avoiding PvP if you want to currently. You would miss out on caravans and like 6 islands in the tropics that have no special resources on them. Basically no economic loss by avoiding it. If anything it’s more efficient to not PvP ever
