I do think 1 problem is too many systems at launch. A new MMO should not try to match a mature MMO in complexity. We're seeing this failure mode to an extreme with the Star Citizen scope creep.

A drop in playerbase is inevitable, but how much it drops matters. And ashes also has the "upside" that everything is public, its not like new world where ppl were on pure copium and hype mode without knowing almost nothing about the game. Once ashes is about to launch players will have full knowledge of the state of the game.

I went into NW during the RTA streamer event and the game was pretty fun. World exploration was cool, sieges were cool. Farming named mobs was cool. Gathering and crafting was cool. I hate time gated POi’s. I am never going to go to 3/4 of them because I will outlevel them.
I wish the desert was good. No reason to go there except mounts and gathering because nobody is there. There’s no poi density, and bad level ranges.
I hate that giants are bad. I think fighting a few tough mobs that slam your tanks instead of aoe pulling would be fun.
I don’t like that there are no jundark, tropics, or desert nodes at level 3. Even the anvils only has one node.
I hate how narrow the crafting options are this phase. Can’t make anything region locked because only riverlands is progressed enough.
I hate fixed rarity gathering nodes. Makes me feel like Mapquest, and that rarity is useless on gear.
I don’t like how long medium armor / leatherworking has been terrible due to fixed rarity nodes.
I don’t see a reason why I would like pylons in the future

I hate that all the power is in weapons, and some in jewelry. Gearing for offense is much more fun than tankiness of armor

This is just literally not how this game or really any game works. You could have put 10,000 hours into Star Citizen up to 4.0, but the second they changed up the flight model in 4.0 none of that really mattered. I did multiple raid tiers as a summoner in FFXIV, which might as well be an entirely different class in 2025. Same with Disc Priest in WoW in just about every expansion. Soft skills like knowing how to press buttons definitely transfers, but the idea that you're getting any kind of leg up on anyone bugging out Tumok or opening SB crates to level quickly or whatever else is kind of hilarious to me and shows you actually don't really understand what has historically made actual top-tier PvP guilds successful.
