You don't need to grind to do crates, you could gather the materials to craft a crate, run that for some gold. Then use that gold to buy more materials to craft more crates and so on. In theory you could kill zero mobs to make gold. They've just added a way to craft crates without the need to farm Glint, thus allowing pure crafters to still make gold from crate running. The system isn't fully working though as there is minimal ways to work out the reward for each crate prior to running it (hopefully this will change).

Indeed, could be made easier, but they've incorporated the crafting system into it to allow you to make rarer crates with better materials. Rather than just increasing the fee to craft by a flat rate

So your gatherers could get the rare materials, in order to make better crates for bigger rewards

I would worry that if crates were just crafted using 50 wood and 50 silver, then it would be even easier for big guilds to flood the system therefore reducing rewards for more casual/smaller guilds.

Caravans still have a place I think, as making a few gold for a 1hr trip with a crate isn't much. Take a caravan or ship with lots of crates and bigger reward, but risky.

Unpopular opinion: It needs finetuning, but the game is better now than ever.
The reason is the game is now finally a big system consisting of a lot of smaller interconnected systems that actually rely on each other. Before it was just an amalgimation of barely connected systems. It ain't just a WoW themepark, where you are getting easy dopamine hits on doing your one favourite thing and ignoring 90% of the other content like it doesn't exist. This is an actual MMO RPG with level pacing, worldbuilding and social sandboxing.

Also its crazy to me that we have people both crying about the game being too hardcore because they cant keep up with the curve and people crying about the settlements being too far behind of the player curve. It costs 1050 Ash Wood to make. Now, let’s say we don’t want to craft it in just rare quality, but in heroic or even higher.

Do you have 1050 Heroic Ash Wood lying around?

Arcane Engineers rejoice - You should be able to be pretty self sufficient in New Aela now without having to run across the map to process wood for your books, wands and focuses.
