Well, it was nice playing with you all. Ashes of Creation added it to Steam just two months before pulling the cash grab, making $50 million and then bailing. So the investors looked at the Steam revenue and decided to pull out, demanding an amount back because they saw Intrepid as a complete mess of a games company and couldn’t see the game making a profit because of the lack of numbers.

Dreaming about making the perfect MMO is one thing, but actually doing it is another. The studio, and Steven’s management as an extension was poor, and promised the world. You were all manipulated by the promise of an amazing MMO.

I played for a month and quit, so I don’t care as much as most of you all would. If I were Steven, I would prioritise long-term development, rather than hiring a mass of devs and ultimately having the company close 2 months after Steam launch because of 500 new interns having no idea what they’re doing.

The moment the game came out on Steam, I knew something was wrong. An obvious push for more money to support an inefficient video game company.

Edit: I realise unemployed losers are not the right audience for my actual life experience, should’ve got me to run Intrepid and you’d all be slopping on my cock the way you did to Steven. I’m glad they stole your money. I RWT and griefed people on the daily btw

Not gonna lie, the news about people at the top leaving Ashes of Creation and layoffs at Intrepid Studios has me feeling a bit uneasy about where things are headed.

When senior leadership walks, especially over disagreements, that is usually not small internal stuff. That is vision level, direction level issues. And losing experienced devs at the same time? That can absolutely affect pace, polish, and how much they can realistically deliver.

Even if everything is still moving forward, transitions like that almost always cause slowdowns or shifts we do not see right away.

I am not trying to doom post. I have been hyped for this game for years and still want it to succeed. I just think it is fair to wonder what this means long term. Are timelines going to slip? Is the original vision still intact? Who is steering the ship now?

Has anyone seen any solid updates that really address this? Would love some clarity, because right now it feels like there are more questions than answers.

He didnt sell it. He lost it. Due to a claim by his old company. They took over all his posessions. Thags this karen lady weve been hearing about

Steven was the Sole Board member as of 12/30/25.
On 1/14/26 Karen L Boreyko, the old owner of the MLM company Steven made all his money from, filed a UCC claim. She took control of Intrepid, and became the new sole Board member.
All the documents prove Steven's story. "Lost control of the company" he did "new board wanted to fire everyone and outsource Devs" True, "I resigned in protest" seems to also be true.
They still fired everyone, and filed a Warn Act for end of business as of Monday EOD

Debts were not paid. Money needed to be recouped. Things got hard... Escalated... And it's the players who will now lose out.
Transparency in 2025 would have avoided this whole situation 🙁 The players would have saved the game... Steven didn't give us the chance 😢

They needed to add some form of recurring revenue (cosmetics, supporter packs, or Early Access) right away, even if it upset people.
Keeping a AAA payroll with no microtransactions or subscriptions made collapse inevitable once sales dropped.
The February player drop confirmed the revenue window was gone, which is why layoffs and the UCC filing followed.

Well...1st Steam human response was saying they understand BUT the refund policy stands regardless (done last night). Just got a 2nd response after making a new request (this afternoon) and they responded that they're currently investigating the entire AoC situation and will update me. Will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

@hushed bluff I did it under "Question about this purchase" instead of the normal automated refund request where you just get the bot rejection.

@ember hearth After Dual Universe got me for $100 I said I'd never do another MMO KS. Only purchase AoC b/c of Steam. I hope they do those who purchased it through Steam right with refunds given the rug pull nature of it all.

An argument could be made that even the steam EA doesn't count as "launched", but it doesn't matter anyway. Only thing it will do is further tarnish the reputation of this IP and make it basically worthless

The board could choose to sell the company, settle outstanding liabilities, and allow a buyer to take over the existing product. In that scenario, the new owner could focus on sustainable monetization, keep the servers running, and stabilize development. All that is really needed is an accredited and trusted studio to pick up this passion project, which is far more reasonable than effectively deleting ten years of developer work while players are actively enjoying the game. The current active player numbers are not bad at all for an alpha. I might be coping, but from a business perspective this still looks viable if the current board takes the loss and sells under reasonable terms and pricing, provided the new studio commits to transparency with the player base and actively listens to community feedback.

People talk a lot of shit about World of Warcraft but right now it's your best option, in my opinion.

I'm waiting for the midnight departure and classic is pretty good.

Classic alone already has 59k players in MoP and 61k in TBC anniversary, only in the EU.

Also if you want competitive pvp and don't mind the sandbox Albion Online, if you want heavy grinding but good black desert pvp.

The current owners will more than likely sell the codebase or outsource the work to a 3rd world studio for cheap. Considering how many bugs there are and how difficult it is for a brand new team to work on sloppy codebases, this doesn't guarantee the game will come out. What is guaranteed: if you've spent money on this game, and you end up spending more once it's confirmed that indians are taking over, you deserve to be hit by a rugpull shaped truck.

@open coral They're already failing to pay their cloud service provider. New owner will likely not make the same mistake as Goofy Sharif. If they end up continueing this shitshow on their dime, I assume they'll negotiate new deals and shut down intermittently.
