Yeah I get how their server meshing works — different zones running on different instances for performance. I’m not arguing against that.

My point is just that even if you can’t check ping inside the game, you can still check latency to the region/cluster outside the game using standard tools. That won’t tell you the exact ping to a specific in-game shard, but it does give a good estimate of your connection to the game’s servers overall.

All I can say is that I use butter and flour to make a roux in a pot, then add in milk, stir while it's heating up, then add whatever shredded cheese you want, add milk if it gets too thick.

At the conclusion of that research, I decided that these devs are genuinely worth investing in because the product they are making is something that they are passionate about and are committed to continue working on.

if you can get past account setup + linking, some of the initial errors, and are patient to go through a queue (unless you choose to start in the Anvils), the actual game is good and really fun. we are only just now hitting the 24 hour mark of early access launch. this is literally still day 1 of early access. this is probably one of the least problematic early access launches for a modern MMO. the gen z instant gratification crowd just cant handle it. god forbid they actually get past the queue and into the game and realize how much of a grind the game is, especially after level 10. their heads are going to explode.

I currently don't recommend ashes of creation to anyone unless they clearly understand what they're actually purchasing and playing.

Ashes of creation is a pure alpha and a mess, bugs everywhere, issues everywhere and not just with the game.

Gameplay wise the game is somewhat in a good place for the casual player up until about level 10-15 beyond that be prepared to grind and grind some more. Alot of content is missing so don't let the flashy trailers make you think its a fleshed out experience.

Community wise, the ashes of creation Community can be extremely toxic and everyone seems to have their own very strong opinions about how the game should be, the loudest of those opinions are pure pvp players who will at all costs push everyone out of this project if they can. They don't understand the concept of needing a underlying casual playerbase to keep the population up but this has happened many times before.

Recommendations for testing during alpha in ashes of creation. Play as long as youre having fun and as soon as you don't take a break for however long and return on the next big update.

Personally I tune in most updates write my reviews of systems and then take a break again because alot of the drama is not worth the hassle.

There has been alot of exploiting, griefing and RMT to date even in the current state of play

Much better experience today I have managed to get in from work , start the game up link my account , play with the character creation for a good 20 minutes haha and now in the queue . Its not the server specifically, its the zones. If you are starting a new toon, pick the Anvils. it will have less of a que or none. it is a WIP though, will be less developed, but you can always run down south once you get a few levels in.

The issue is the Lionhold area starter is jammed up.

Its not the Realm servers, its the actual server tech (Server workers) QUes are by areas, not the "realm" level. If your toon is in an affected area, its jammed up. Thats why lots can play, they started and gtfo ouf the starter areas, OR, started in Anvils.

Yes, they are on separate Server Workers. A Realm (Shol) is made up of many different servers. The big issues are happening on the busy server workers in the Riverlands starting areas.

Also, I've been in the shoes of calling other's bootlickers (when I was a bit younger) so I understand it. It's more so though that they don't understand what they're annoyed at.

One thing I will say though, we really need to stop normalizing terrible launch experiences! Diablo 3 was crucified for it and it almost never recovered its image after that

Queues are based on population in an area of the world, not the total realm population

The way our queue system works is based on server worker. Different areas of the world have queues, and as people leave the starting areas queues are expected to become more sane.

For example, queues for starting in Aela (Riverlands) are different than queues for starting in Dünzenkell (Anvils)

So here’s the state of things:

1.) 1000’s of people pay to be alpha testers for a game in alpha state.

2.) Realize that there are issues. These are the issues that they are signing up to discover as part of being an alpha testers.

3.) Some realize that wait a minute, I don’t want to be an alpha tester, I just wanted to buy the game so I could play it. I didn’t realize it would have such bugs! (Even though it is explicitly stated)

4.) Proceed to come to discord to complain, whine, cry, shout for refunds, yadda yadda. All because he or she, the consumer, decided to make an uninformed, un-researched purchase for an alpha game they have no interest in legitimately alpha testing. No one forced the purchase, it was made of his or her own free will.

These are wild times folks.
