The idea was to give themselves some space to breathe. The website issues caught them with a bit of a right hook, but they're working on it.

5 WHY WEREN'T WE ALLOWED TO PRE-LINK ACCOUNTS?
-- You were... if you had the game prior to the steam launch. Everyone else needed to do it launch day, which relates to my former bullet point. This will be a lot smoother once the kinks are worked out: If you're hitting a wall, I implore you to sit back, get something to eat, maybe do something else for a bit? Once the initial rut is over, it's expected the process will ease up considerably.

6 WHY ARE THE QUEUES LONGER THAN MY LIFE REGRETS

-- You were... if you had the game prior to the steam launch. Everyone else needed to do it launch day, which relates to my former bullet point. This will be a lot smoother once the kinks are worked out: If you're hitting a wall, I implore you to sit back, get something to eat, maybe do something else for a bit? Once the initial rut is over, it's expected the process will ease up considerably.

the game is great but it is in an alpha stage so there is a lot of changes still to come, but so far its been great! you can always try it and if you dont like it there is a return policy. You can consider it whatever you want, however, first impressions matter. How they handle situations is important for launch perspective, regardless of what those that "can play feel".

The game is currently unplayable for a vast majority, mainly new players. The ones that are able to get in are those that have supported the game for a while. People dont understand what EA/Alpha means anymore since most companies throw those words around pretending its EA/Alpha when it is a real launch for those games, so wipes will hit harder here.

But the actions the devs and team of Ashes take is important, and letting the small few play and gain advanatages, especially streamers, can have a negative experience for more casual players which will always outnumber the hardcores

That is what a first impression mean. Their first experience with the game will be the first impression whether alpha, beta or launch. If it is negative for them, it will hold over. If it is too negative they will play something else and you lose customers. This is normal consumer behavior and has been for decades in gaming. The game being in Alpha is not a free pass to ignore "first impressions".

I think its the way Steam treats EA specifically. They have the blanket "EA" term and it makes people think certain things. Alpha has a specific meaning, as well as Beta, and EA used to have a specific meaning, but now it really doesn't.
