This is just cope. PvP games have a significantly longer shelf life than PvE games, and PvErs are the ones that consistently kill games. Solo players whine and beg for the game to bend to them until everyone gets their participation trophy just for logging in.

Dune Awakening is the most recent example of this. Funcom bent to PvErs and they all ended up quitting anyway.

I agree ashes needs to do better with bringing people into needing to care about pvp. Unfortunately they have gone with some free to traverse everywhere model. Making the appeal of the node system and owning anything almost pointless. If ashes is going to endure as a fun pvp game they need to raise the stakes for why anyone pvp or pve player should want to join a node. Building up and taking nodes in this game should have meaning and consequence. I only hope they get there after they implement more systems.

All they need to do to fix guild wars is keep the reward off, lower the gold cost, and add a 24 hour cooldown

Per guild, not charges

If I see a bunch of one guild running 5-10 crates I should be able to war dec them and recoup the cost to declare by selling their packs

Give it a five minute timer if you want

But the fact that we can only dec on a set number guilds when people are running around in 4-5 guild alliances is a huge problem

And keeping the rewards turned off and adding a cooldown allows players an out to avoid PvP at certain hours if they don’t want it while also incentivizing objective based PvP around crates versus just griefing crafters in town

Almost like we’ve been giving Steven this feedback for a year or something

So if Polar wants to waste their cooldown fighting Supple crafters they are denying themselves potentially more rewarding PvP later in the day

Because it results in people just being zerged out of content. Everyone does it to a certain level, but I think the size of guilds right now in Ashes is absolutely excessive. If you need to name yourself various colors to distinguish what guild you’re in, you’ve lost the plot. I hated that Dopamine did that shit too.

Like when it gets to the point where half the server makeup is in two different guild alliances, it may be time to step back and ask yourself if you’re even “PvP” guilds

Or if your primary motivation is just to PvE in peace

I'm a new player his phase, so take my words and outlook with a grain of salt. I am ignorant to the history of the game and many other things.

I'd like to be able to fight for resources through pvp or cc without going corrupt. Someone taking something you want? Too bad. /wave at them. We're in candy land with both hands tied behind our backs. As cancer as training mobs and flag baiting is, it's the only way to fight people off of resources, whatever those may be. The game would feel healthier if people didn't have to "grief" (I don't see it that way but may others do) to compete for those resources.

The very nature of pvp is currently the problem. You can't pvp unless both parties opt into it. The vast majority of the time, there is no reason to. The penalties are far too harsh to even engage with the system.

Guilds being too big is definitely not part of the problem. If anything, they're far too small. I'd rather see everyone under one banner than aura supple, amnesty, polar, fed, etc having 4-8+ sister guilds. Leveling guilds takes too long, and no one wants to lose power for higher capacity.

Big guilds come and go truly strong guilds will be around for a long time, but also there is very few ways any developer can prevent big organizations from forming. Sort of. Non-instanced PvP doesn’t necessarily always result in zerging up, but it’s definitely a problem in Ashes when it costs you basically nothing to make a second or third guild and when there are no penalties for doing so.

Other games have solved this problem by giving buffs or debuffs to players based on raid size, or by creating a decentralized world where it’s against your best interests to Zerg up.

The problem with Ashes right now is that there’s only like a handful of towns to run crates to, so it’s really easy to Zerg up and block channels in a way that wasn’t really possible in ArcheAge

And yes the other half of it is watching teenagers do the usual nonsense of bragging about being good at the game while really just bringing 2x numbers to every fight.

It’s an open world PvP game and that’s great and all but that doesn’t mean zerging has to be the only route to victory and plenty of other games make small scale work incredibly well in similar environments to Ashes

I think the guild cap is way too low and the vassal system as it is designed actually destroys any semblance of politics, especially if we can’t even push Supple or Polar out of any of these nodes

I also just think the general existence of water mounts is going to make ocean PvP a Zerg fest too but that’s a whole separate issue

I do think travel time on this map is a legit anti zerg mechanic though, if you run small you have to play numbers, get your W and move out quickly before zerg can group. Obviously there is still a multitude of issues beyond this but i do think its possible to win as a small guild.

So you have this problem where basically no one even fucks with large guilds except other large guilds

And so the only route to content is joining a large guild

But there is literally nothing of relevance (aside from gathering) outside of the riverlands

TL;DR - They need to flesh out the node upgrading process a lot. Like, to kickstart from Wilderness, you get a bunch of people acting like Settlers from Civilzation: just port a bunch of stuff there (basically "node exp crates") to get it to Crossroads. Then a bunch of events and supplies and in-node activities (like commissions) to get to Village.

The whole human vs world thing, including mob raids like wolves going for livestock, etc. etc.

My understanding is most IPs change over time unless you pay large amounts so they don't, so eventually even without a VPN they would be back, and now potentially whoever gets your old IP could now be banned.
