If you think an upcoming wipe doesn't increasingly have an effect on a game's population I can't convince you of much. Knowing everything you're doing is going to wipe has a increasing effect on people the closer it gets to the wipe. Now with the announcement of no more updates until August for the production build more people will likely become inactive until August 4.

In fairness a wipe is needed to test node advancement and most of the progression in the game, at the end of the day we are here to test not play an ongoing game, if you don’t want a wipe maybe wait until games release

It's not about wanting or not wanting a wipe, people judge the efforts in which they put into the game. It's the same with Rust that wipes once a week. The first half of the week of a wipe if you get raided you'll rebuild the second half of the week if you get raided you'll wait until the following wipe.
