whatever your group frames happen to be at the time, the mouseover uses their nameplate to function, from what I understand
I could be wrong for action targeting though. I tried it in P1 and it just did not feel right for healing. the target selecting in action targeting for healing just was nowhere near precise enough. I will try these options out in action targeting at some point though, just to see
Cant think of a way action is better in that build so far.
Thanks for all these infos, you a legend !
Sure thing! If I learn anything new, I'll come back and post
So the hover casting appears to be just unchecking "Abilities require clicking target"
And action targeting is SIGNIFICANTLY more precise now for selecting friendly targets! could be a viable way to heal moving forward, for anyone that likes that playstyle
where is that setting? I have been through the options menu a half dozen times
nevermind I just realized there was a search function in the options menu
Ah! For anyone else wondering, it's in gameplay>targetting
Got fishing at rank12 and not a single apprentice fish is something wrong or?
Player stalls
but did you upgrade your certification to apprentice?
how do certificates work?
Does a cleric want light .. or heavy or medium armor?
Yes i upgraded it already but still no apprentice fish.
Opps sorry hit this into the wrong chat.
Light typically but theres some exceptions your just after whatever increases your healing power and the like
Theres some crafted plate pieces that can have int on them but its like 2 pieces atm
what do the jest and mock skill options actually do here? the tooltip is the same as the default.
So basically Quick Wit changes depending on your target. Those allow you to have a static button. It doesn't change anything and you can pick them up for free.
Let’s you put them on seperate keybinds
It lets you hover cast jest on allies
Question for Clerics. Divine Power instant cast. For the heal spells that heal bigger the longer you hold the button. Does Divine Power instant cast equate to full hold power of the spell?
fellow fighters, are you running medium or heavy armor?
3 medium for crit and the rest heavy is imo where it's at
do you think that the crit chance is better than crit damage?
any tips for a first time cleric (never played the class before)
Fighter Spin to Win is still bugged, even when you have full momentum it will self cancel, or not gain momentum from strikes while using the ability or occasionally you can spin forever. The ability is completely buggy and not working correctly. Please fix this.
we get a lot of crit damage from items IMO. while crit chance is a bit more rare. this could be completely wrong but its my experiance from phase 1 , not exploiting any of the bugs others did to get legendaries and stuff
just want to say, generally i think upping chance is better, but it depends on the math case-by-case.
higher chance eventually just means all your hits are crits, and that becomes your new base damage output, so high Chance in the long run is just higher base damage, even if crits only give +0.1% extra damage. it's still higher average base damage.
higher Damage only matters when you hit the crit chance, but can be more worth it than crit chance if the amount of extra damage on average vastly overpowers the extra base damage of high Chance
I didn't phrase my idea about crit damage well. When looking at the trees for 2h and ranged, we can get our crit damage quite high. That's why if u can eek out more crit on your items or set bonuses, go for it
Idk why clerics judgement doesn’t have this yet
So annoying as a healer as it just doesnt work if you have defensive targeting enabled
what is defensive targeting?
Yes it should
I use it for Deliverance a lot
What are y'all's favourite ranger combos to help dps for the entire squad? I've definitely seen raven and bear marks do quite well but up for ideas anyone may have tried.
Is it weird if I'm not super excited playing any of the current classes?
I just feel meh trying each of em
Prolly not weird per se but likely helpful for devs if you can articulate why.
Problem is I can't figure out why! XD
For example I play glass cannon mage whenever in MMOs and yet I'm trying ranger out this time. It's a strange feeling, but so far I'm enjoying trying to do aoe damage during pulls with a predominantly non aoe kit.
Enjoying = the character makes me think. There are combos to try out, squad compositions to try out, new things to learn about how this archetype works within a given context.
Ive been a tank or healer in every MMO I've played. So I've played the classes I don't even know how many times now. In Aoc I just feel so meh. Unfortunately I haven't figured out why
What level is your main toon at? And this is true even after grinding with squads?
I've only gotten each up to 10 so maybe that's it too
Healing in this feels better than ESO and New World for me, although you really neeed lv 8-10 before you can even be reliable
10 is a good amount of effort to put in but maybe try a bit more and see what it feels like? Like ranger really gets balling past level 12 or 14 or so when you unlock barrage, raven mark, lightning reload.
Idk what it's like for tanks and healers
I know I always ask the cleric to put blessed weapon on shortbow ranger since that's a mana engine.
Ya I think maybe I need more time with tank. It's the class I've enjoyed the most thus far
Yeah I'd say if you're unable to figure out why you dislike a class it may just be that you haven't fully articulated your expectations from the glass or had a chance to really try out your play style with it? But that's also ass pull words since it's all personal feelings.
But really hope you get excited or at least are able to figure out why you're not. Definitely a bad feeling to not like something and also not know why.
As a Cleric I second this, any shortbow ranger I find gets my Blessed Weapon lmao
It's so wild seeing the actual mana jumps.
Also, respeccing between keen edge (more damage) and refreshing followthrough (mana regen on finisher) depending on bard presence or not is really neat.
Anyone know what is the current policy on tank/heal/dps roles? I remember reading once that only classes that started as a "Tank" would become the main tank of the party. I usually play tanks in MMOs but so far I havent been very impressed on the tank role. Animation is pretty dull "me strong, me smash". Cleric and Bard have been much more into my liking and I was wondering if Apostle or Siren can become a valid tank?
according to the wiki it sounds like tank augments in general will enable threat management so its probably a viable approach if you gear for it.
i think the primary difficulty would be the major shift over the leveling process though. because you will not be a good enough tank until you hit 25 and can augment threat into your skills, so you'd spend the first 25 levels basically being an off-tank paladin or pure healer type, and that's a long time to be playing a certain playstyle to not be able to know if it feels good or not in its final form
With the exception of Cleric and Mage, classes really start popping off at lvl 13-14 -- you'll have a couple of "last tier" skills AND good gear from HH
How’s Bard feel guys? Im really wanting make a bard to be able to buff groups and do some heals as well. Are they like Bards from EQ?
we know almost nothing about augments regardless of what people tell you
So the mage is interesting, in general you need a way to distinguish an archetype from other archetypes, but also a way to distinguish 2 players playing the same archetype.
The mage in AoC is an elementalist, which other games that make this choice then have you choose an element to specialize in. So ice, fire, arcane, ect. So an ice mage is very different from a fire mage.
I like elemental empowerment and weaving different elements for additional effects such as shatter. However, I'm curious how you then make mages unique from each other?
Or maybe all mages are the same and augments are what makes them different? If so, it will be interesting to see how that works and we would likely need augments soon'ish. Otherwise it will be hard to get a feel for the mage kit (or any class really).
i wonder: if i equip a bard with physical weapons. ths skills should do less dmg but the autoattacks should be more powerful?!
They’ve been firm on the idea that archetypes are your role and that doesn’t change. So Tank is the only tank. They even have the roles listed in the guild roster window.
Can you give a tip for a mage?
How I getting better gear if every group is farming melee mobs that dont drop int gear
you can farm churge there can drop int too ?
There did seem to be problems with hover casting Quick Wit also and these seperate buttons allowed you to do that while being clicked onto an enemy.
Wonder how that will work out when subclassing is added
Grapple fix when? I had a 13 count attempt last night before a PVE mob pulled
Has there been any info on when multiclasses are coming?
They talk about it on the wiki on the Augment and Role pages and probably elsewhere. The idea is to customize your role a bit more. So a Tank would still be a tank but how that looks could vary widely. Take a look at all the varieties of tank or healer or magic damage dealer or anything else in other MMO's. The system in Ashes with augments, secondary classes, ability/weapon points, gear/weapon choices type and stat choices, etc. are all designed to allow you to customize your class and build, vs in other games you just get a preset class and that's it. So you'll get similar "classes" at the end to the variety seen elsewhere, you'll just have more choice over what it looks like.
On Bard is better to go Short or long bow?
was looking at that. Summoner going to a really popular archetype if it holds up that it can do gap filling based on supporting role and gear
would bard, or any caster using a spellbow be missing alot of DMG because its physical and doesnt scale w their magic stats?
As a former EQ bard, I love the class
What I was mostly after is: Would a Cleric that specs into Apostle be a viable tank with lots of healing in its kit or would it just be a healer that can take some hit/hold some trash while main tank is occupied with the boss that hits too hard for Apostle to hold? Or are the only classes able to tank coming from the tank main archetype and then you add some flavour to the class with secondary archetype.
I'm also still interested to see the summoner and how it would compare to the Tank. It might actually have interesting and unique game play.
Most likely the second which could fill its role as an off tank
If it was the first it would just be unkillable in a lot of circumstances and invalidate the need for anyone to play main spec tank
Im not familiar enough with the threat mechanics of ashes yet to say for certain, but I think the main issue a summoner tank would have would be generating enough threat to pull aggro with each summon, it would have to go back to the summoner when the summon dies/run out of time, and they'd have to be able to redirect that threat to new summons. I can see summoner tank playing more of a support role, and it sacrifices its summons to mitigate dmg that an ally is about to take
it scales with magic power. it does not scale with casting speed until they do with bows what they've done for scepter/mace
(meaning, scepter is a direct copy of mace except it scales with both magic power AND casting speed)
which is frankly obtuse considering spellbows give casting speed
i think its just something they haven't implemented yet
Mind if I send you a DM please? Looking for some tips and skills I should be focusing on
I'm with family this week but happy to respond as I can. I respec based on my role in the party from main heals to off heals to mana bitch/support to supplemental damage.
Haha ok so that’s pretty much EQ bard. Mana/regen bitch
Sent you a dm
If you're the only bard, it's the expectation and how we keep things going aling with timely debuffs and timely heals, you can make a bad team look decent or a good team great. There are no limitations to the class imo.
Yup! Sounds like EQ bard to me!
Dropped DM's your way
You'd still be a healer, who maybe was just a bit tankier or something. Only a Tank can tank. But you can be a different kind of healer yes. But in terms of off-tanking as a role, that's part of the Summoner's role, so they technically are off-tank and off-heals when they're not needed as DPS. So you really would just potentially be a tanky healer who could maybe focus on a melee healer role and exist in the fray better.
I really love being a tanky cleric. Its been a great time being able to solo enemies way above my level because I can just outlast them
Are the spell weapons worth running? The auto chain looks like it scales off phys power but the weapons give magic power
you want magic power weapons. period.
Damn, my dream of grreatsword cleric shot down
Ok, I thought you were saying magic scaling auto chains was required
great spellsword cleric is fine
honestly you want to run the high magic rating weapons you can find. I was running mace+focus & shortbow
Yeah I have a shortbow right now
everything amps your damage + heal power
Is tank any fun? I remember hearing that it was very white toast early on, but not sure if thats still the case.
It's rough pre level 12, and pre-gear
what woudl you guys say woudl be best solo class?
idk about best, but Ranger has been pretty fun so far. You have to be good at dodging and kiting but with the right skill selection you can solo pretty well. I've only played ranger so far so take it with a grain of salt
unfortunately, dodging and kiting also doesn't work well as enemies are too fast and dodging is pitiful
i have also only played Ranger so far
the number of times i've dodged during a skeleton rib throw or goblin rock toss only for it to curve mid air and hit me after i finish rolling is saddening
really? I'm feeling good about it, it's hard which is fun but it's totally doable if you keep the slows up on the target.
ahh yeah ranged is tough, for me its a dps race at that point.
it's not even just dodging ranged "projectiles"
i have baited enemy swings and circled them, even dodged behind/beside them mid charge-up or Disengaged to vault behind them, and despite facing away they still sometimes damage me
for the most part it's ok, but when nearly every non-basic attack is secretly a Cast that doesn't care for direction or specific range, there are some feelsbadman moments
huh, I have not experienced this. Perhaps it's because i'm only level 10, but up to this point I have been very successful in dodging almost all attacks as long as I have endurance/stam left to do so.
I've been able to just sprint around too, and circling some mobs disables their ability to attack me because they are directional and can't attack behind themselves. I feel like we're having the opposite experience.
i got up to 10 in phase 1 becasue i joined late, and am at 5 now
the problem with sprinting around is you're not attacking at all, and doing even normal combo attacks slows you down practically as though you're the snared one and not the enemy
anybody else notice with bards, discordance bounces dont do damage off every bounce, or sometimes no damage at all off the bounce
i'm a Ranger.
when i apply a stack of Snared, and then within the duration of the first stack i apply multiple more stacks, when the duration expires for the first stack it takes all other stacks with it.
i would assume that it should only take the 1 stack off, and not all stacks. is it said somewhere how this should work, or is this actually how it is meant to work?
if that's intended behavior, then that just hurts ranged attacking even more, as when you finally get a target slow enough that your slow walking-while-shooting speed is enough to keep them at bay, 9 seconds after the fight starts the first Snared stack expires and all at once they rush you down and clobber you
are bards that use a spell bow supposed to be doing physical damage with it, or should it be magical damage?
Cleric is maybe the best solo class. Mage is also pretty good as they have cc and high damage.
So reflect on tank, is it activated and then you hold down block and it should reflect the damage?
*figured it out
Cleric by a long shot
I'm only level 9 on my mage right now so it might change later, but I find fighting multiple mobs very difficult to deal with. Been grinding on the goblins anymore than 2 at a time and I will likely die.
The only mob ability I can consistently dodge is the Raven charge attack. Everything else just hones in on you regardless of whether you dodge or not.
sometimes when i dodge, it says the attack misses, but it's actually the opposite
where i definitely didn't dodge at the right time and should've been hit
anyone able to shine some light on this?
i don't want to straight up say it's a bug, because i don't actually know the intended behavior
Cleric can fight multiple mobs easily which is why it's so good solo. Mage though can fairly easily kill 1 star mobs solo, but yeah you will struggle with multiple mobs. Slumber helps though, it's an AoE sleep so sleep then and kill 2 before the other wakes up.
Oh yeah for sure. Even at level 9 I can stun-lock a single 2-star mob and kill it. Give me more than 1 mob though and it's a real struggle.
No. Report as a bug. The Intrepid team will look into it and determine what it should do.
Is your question if you should be using a magic power bow? If so, the answer is yes. Mana regen, health regen, lament, lullaby etc all scale off magic power.
No the damage the bow does. The tooltip over the weapon icon left of the hotbars shows it scales with physical
Correct, the actual bow damage with auto attacks scale in that manner
i dont think that should be the case though. if you look at a wand or scepter they scale off magic power
anything magical should be scaling off magic power
Submit a bug. Intrepid will look into it
its just false.
bard is good at basically everything
and they have the most cc in the game
they legit have the most mobility/flexibility/cc out of any class
and for some reason, hilariously strong burst damage
they move faster on foot than expensive mounts with proper mechanics
Idk how so much of this community looks at a kit as psychotically diverse and strong as bard's and just reads
"oh they just give mana and a little healing!" lol
mana is unironically one of the least powerful things that bard gives
I was being semi sarcastic. I played bard in EQ for years and loved the haste songs, cc mes songs, and movement speed songs. The mana/regen songs were just for downtime between fights
Like for example
your group farms faster if you use menacing melody and just have everyone drink
than using pensive
I was just wondering if they could twist songs like they can in EQ to do multiple things at once
but obviously proper play would be to also run pensive and swap to it to dump 10 res stacks for the burst regen, then swap back to menacing
- hymn of the mind buffed by harmony
but just sitting in pensive is incorrect
Ok cool. Yeah i mean I just started and I’m only lvl 4, so just was trying to see how their mechanics worked before I invested a ton of time into the class only to find out it wouldn’t be what I thought it was
ill send you the mobility vid i made
Awesome thanks
Can you send that to me too.
Trying to find some bard resources myself
I really feel the lack of early access to sustain kills the enjoyment I get playing ranger and fighter. Any suggestions?
I believe fighter has a health stealing move no?
fighter has killing blow overkill dmg as hp/mp and then a t2 option to make ur special resource provide a regen based on the total resource accumulated.
Question to rangers: Do your character actually pull string of the bow and bow is being flexed? It was working fine in phase 1 but in phase in phase 2 the bow stay still do not flex, also string stay same when pulling.
i know there's a few visual bugs with weapons, animation and rigging errors
i haven't paid attention to the bow model itself though
This thing is driving me crazy. My OCD kicks hard whenever i see it xD
i haven't been able to replicate it down to a science, but i sometimes get it where my bow model is flat at my feet while i move around (likely default anchored to my character's hitbox center)
think it has something to do with firing an ability out of Sitting Down
It doesnt matter on mine, auto attack, skills, bow stay still, do not flex, string is not being pulled at all.
Anyone know if arrowstorm is broken rn? it never triggers for me
Fighter has 2 sustain skills. Ranger... You get hit playing ranger?? Cause I don't
Lethal Blow’s regen is alright.
Well that skill allows me to chain kill mobs my level for a good while before needing to Regen, with a decent weapon mind you
either you're fighting things half your level, or you're fighting in a group (or you're on a pillar).
that's the only way i can think of for you to not experience the agony of monsters being so fast that they get to you and swing at you before you can kill them
I'm also Ranger
Well I play solo and starting level 8 you got enough to solo any melee 1star mobs, 2 stars starting 15-16
You can break melee twice, you got snares, 3 roots, and massive DMG, how can you not solo mobs?
even with 1/2 snare stacks, a lot of mobs are still able to close distance fast
and the current state of Snare stacks being all removed when just 1 expires means you just can't keep a mob in place forever
You can root them for 12 seconds, on almost perfectly rotating CDs, how's is that not enough?
I've been playing all day and haven't had it proc once, but a guildie has it working perfectly fine
anyone know if mage passicves are bugged? the chain lightning doesn't seem to be giving extra dmg
How many mages are going heavy armor?
I don't see any reason to go heavy currently, medium would be viable I assume. When classes get introduced it will be interesting to see if melee mage becomes a thing.
Are there any kinds of penalties for wearing specific types of armor or?
not implemented/fleshed out yet
set bonuses are the only thing to consider
Okay thanks. Light seemed good for mage but honestly I haven't seen a whole lot of gear and my char is 15
no penalties, and while the extra mitigation on a cleric is enticing, what you need even more is the stat bonuses you get with light armor
Why is this game a pain as fighter...
Tbh I was thinking 5 pc medium and 3 pc heavy bonuses looked better
Remember as a healer your main stats need to be magical, more magic power more heals, more mana more heals. Iirc medium only kinda lean magical and heavy flat out doesn't. I could be wrong on that front however.
I believe the intent is armor only affects your damage mitigation. Heavy offering more physical defense magic offering more magic defense and medium offering both. I imagine crafting will allow you to alter the sub stats provided and what will really matter is the set bonuses they provide. Dropped gear would have limitations on stat type. At least that’s how I would implement it
How does soft lock work? I can never get it to target people
no idea, i usually just click on people, which is a pain for randoms in a horde, but for party members i click on healthbars
No I’m talking about the 3,5, and 8 set bonuses for wearing that many of an armor type. We’ll get both physical and magical stats on all armor. It’s intended eventually that every class can make choices as to what to wear.
Yes it’s basically this
Is the soft lock tab or z?
Thanks. Then @high jungle when you hover your mouse near an enemy you aren't seeing a red dot appear on them?
There are a lot of key bind menu options for targeting in the menu. Might be better than action cam for your play style
What is the furthest caravan distance that can be done currentl;y
Harmony better for maxing out mana regen and imo better for running malicious. Can use discordance if you really want to apply staggered
someone mentioned some kind of soft lock for allies when hovering their names
Shift+` would cycle friendly. Shift+B is nearest friendly
F1 target self. F2-F8 is pretty member slots. Check out the keybinds in the options menu
Gib rouge
Shortbow for arrowstorm
Party wide critchance is also very very good
Ya was told short in the past
I use short for soloing for snare, long for groups
So having leveled fighter about halfway, the only time the truly had trouble was leveling as a lvl in a low ten area because I was undergeared. I know most people’s gripe with the class is pvp based but personally I quite like it
I’m guessing lvl 19 might be rough?
any guides on weapon skills to choose for mages / what weapons are good for mages
Whatever weapon you find that has high magic power. Wand is solid, I am currently using a magic longbow and that works well also.
Lots of guides on YouTube, but most will suggest ice+lightning for shatter procs
Wtb rogue 😛 just leveling a bard and waiting for rogue to arrive
Watch bard have more cc than rogue
Lets be honest we all want Clerics Revive to be Non CCable with an extra perk
given rogues are listed as a damage class and not a support class id expect them to have less CC then a class that has a bunch. id rather be doing juicy backstabs and shadow steps then be a CC drone
then we would just have pvp raids of 40 clerics.. it wouldnt be very fun to deal with. everyone just pick the cc immune class
its a part of the skill to protect your clerics.
What if, No cc on revive but make it 300% longer
Give and take
not sure what youre talking about since i dont play cleric. but why would that work? im very confused
If they were to change it I'd prefer something like no cc on revive but the cleric takes increased damage during the cast.
What would be that burst combo ?
I have a question hopefully someone can answer. I have a scepter and a spellbook equiped. When using the spellbook, I'm getting finisher procs from both weapons (e.g. volatile from spellbook + stagger from the scepter). Is this intended or a bug?
Does anyone know where swordmasters swiftness comes from? Greatsword last tier allowsd you to add to is but I dont see where it comes from.
Idk what you are asking. 1h and 2h sword can spec into proving the swords masters swiftness. Middle talent unlocks it. Top talent makes it stack to 2 and not be consumed. Bottom talent makes it party wide in 35m
Happens from auto attacks, idk which part of it’s a finisher, extended, etc
Also the top left and top right trio for all weapons only seem to go off when the weapon is the one being used. Bunch of weird mechanics going on in those trees
How important is spell speed for a cleric? Trying to figure out what weapon to use
I would say not super important considering they also have divine power
I know one telent lets me use divine power for insta cast while the other uses it before mana so hmm
The mana isn't an issue past level 12/13 if you put bountiful blessing on an auto attacker like a ranger
Spell speed is still nice though
I was going to try to sword and focus to see how that feels
Same question but for bard
On bard I use scepter and short spellbow . Spellbook doesn't feel that good since bard doesn't have a lot of damage, but it does have a lot of cc and abilities, I rather cast them fast and chain combos together quickly then do more damage
bard has skills with cast times so its more valuable
Yea songs/dances you wanna cast them quickly
Fastest dancer is best lol
I didn’t like how the spell book would chain to more mobs then what I want
Does anyone know what the Silent Pantheon Saga for Bard actually do?
There's no information really
just says players get a b lessing from the Gods
It drops puddles on the ground that players can walk over and pick up. The buff lasts for a short time and do things like more damage, move speed I think. I played bard last wipe and didn't prefer it.
ahh, the different colors are different buffs?
Yea, its awkward for sure
any idea when rogue releases?

For a viable Cleric, greatsword vs mace & board?
Doesn’t really matter as long as it has magic stats
Has any fighters been able to use longbow stagger while wielding greatsword? I was able to proc stagger in phase 1 but now it wont proc the longbow finisher
Thanks, @versed viper
If you solo lots the shield can help but you'd want a focus or 2h stat stick for groups
Am I the only Fighter that feels like crippling blow is far too inconsistent as a kick
I believe they removed status effect procs for the non equipped weapon. I assume it was a bug, although I thought it was pretty cool.
So with bard their heals that tick through the cast, like if it has 4 heals through the whole cast does spell speed just make it go off faster or can it make it have another tick?
It just finishes faster. When you get Anthem for +25% self cast speed it's very obvious what faster cast speed does
Thanks, @torn imp I suppose I can carry both and just respec when needed.
Orange is max life
Purple is crit chance
Blue is power multiplier
Green is move speed
Fairly sure it’s all 30%
Running wand/focus and sword/focus with max cast speed feels really good
Shortbow has the crit chance aura for all allies which is amazing
Wand has reduced cool-down on casts after using a deadly or standard finisher/extended finisher
If you don’t want speed, 2h spell sword and longbow are good replacements
I tested other weapon combinations and they stillbwork. My 2h sword bleeds, chills, and wounds
That’s a bug
It only sometimes lets you proc every single finisher and extended finisher effect from every weapon you have leveled and speced
Would be nice to know for sure if it's designed that way or a bug. It adds a ton of strategy to weapon choice which is nice. Otherwise it's just whatever is the biggest stat stick
It’s a bug for all the finisher effects to proc
Once that’s fixed you will be limited to current wielded weapons
If it ever gets fixed
For a ranged class you never use your melee weapon, so leveling it has no value I can tell
Which is unfortunate and a missed opportunity
Possibly a ranger fighter combination would use both weapons
I think that’s wrong
As a mage, it doesn’t matter what weapon is in your hand when you cast spells
So set up your melee weapon for big crit/pen
and you ranged weapon for mana generation
Then when you are casting spells swap to melee, then back to ranged when you need to use attack chains
Weapon swap is pretty quick
Interesting, might be worth trying. I find myself buffering though, so if it disrupts timing, any minor gains would be a wash
The difference of a weapon spec for full penetration is like 28% pen
That makes a pretty big difference
To any other Bards out there...did anyone else seem to notice their damage just tank in the last 36-48 hours? Around level 13 to 15, my Extended/Extended Deadly Finishers were hitting for upwards of 1100-1400 damage when they proc'd, and now I'm level 20 with better gear and I'm surprised if I see anything north of 300. Was the previous damage a bug, or is this 'new' damage a bug? Or is my character just bugged, maybe? Just thought I see if anyone else has noticed anything similar.
If your gear broke, take it off then put it back on again
It counts as broken until you do so
That would cause the damage decrease
Also mobs have more inherent armour, so you don’t hit as hard
I've done that a couple times, once last night after the reset.
Hmm, wait over 1k?? That’s nuts I think that was a bug
I generally hit about the same as you are now, with steel weapons vs level 28 mobs
Yeah, would be nice if there was a training dummy equivalent or something so we could test stuff, even if it's just scrolling through the combat log.
Maybe I was getting the finishers from both weapons bug then, I guess.
Combat is log is almost useless with the constant stream of melody
Question to rangers: Do your character actually pull string of the bow and bow is being flexed? It was working fine in phase 1 but in phase in phase 2 the bow stay still do not flex, also string stay same when pulling.
it does not
anyone know when rogues supposed to come out
Jan-Feb
can't wait for the summoner
i want the augmentations for the classes to come out already XD but thats a ways off still
Anyone have any recommended builds for a solo fighter?
how early should I get the green and blue stances and their enhancements as a fighter?
As early as you want to use them.. so fighters will bounce between all three stances some may just perma use one
ok. So i guess I should get them and their skills (Lethal Blow, The Kick and Whirlwind) at around the same time.
Every build will be difference to preference but yeah around the same time
cool, so I have done that right.
I kinda like the stance dancing, but I think the stances should be at level milestones (and the red should get an enhancement as well)
I'm sure classes will be built on in future and that may be part of it
I feel that a supercharger perk would also be neat.
Btw, can we see previews of the combined classes anywhere?
Tank subclasses with mage makes their charge a blink.. besides that we know literally nothing
For now at least
so I have to still speculate if Fighter+Summoner will be like Noctis or Vergil or something else entirely. Perhaps Final Form Sora?
Because I could imagine both of those, to be honest
I only use green currently. It didn’t seem like there was as much combo potential with other skills in the blue stance. Currently, I’ve put stagger on my bow and bleed on my sword, and so I will switch to green when I need to use Crippling Blow and my bow hasn’t procced it by the time I get to them, then switch back to orange in order to proc bleed after I Tripp and Maim to cycle through Rupture and Lethal Blow.
I then switch to Green to get a little boost on regen with my leftover Momentum, which I still don’t have much of a gauge on how much I have currently so I’ve avoided too many skills that require it
I also invested in the free switching to better switch between the stances without a cooldown or cost
Iirc, blue gives Shaken which lowers their physical resistance right? When I used whirlwind, I used shout to set that up instead, but I could see using your cleave to do so in a solo environment if you’re pulling multiple mobs
Any rogue news outside of that last data mine leak to codex?
I came here to ask this we have some leaked abilities and nothing I’m so eager
Same. I joined for phase 2. Do nt want to get too invested in my tank because I plan on rerolling
I played a bard this round got it to like 15 or so and love it but want the rogue haha
I don't know who those are, but most prob you will summon weapons to fight besides you
is there currently a bug that ALL weapon procs procs of finishers?
i get staggered and chilled procs with finishers while holding shortbow/2h without any of these procs
Noctis is from Final Fantasy XV and able to summon different weapons from his arsenal to switch to them on the fly mid attack.
Vergil is from Devil May Cry and able to summon Mirage Blades to either fire them at his foes, have them circle around them or even dual wield them with his Katana.
Final Form Sora is from Kingdom Hearts 2 and uses 2 Keyblades (think one and a half hander) to attack telekinetically, use them as platforms and generally support him.
what did you skill on your base weapon at the start? normally you get t3 choices
I can confirm this. I have leveled both longbow and book and after I chose burning finishers on the book, the longbow always procs staggered and burning.
Not the sword though.
I would assuume it is a bug since that allows you to trigger more statuses than intended which improcves yoir damage a lot
Anyone that can explain to me why Tanks Intimidating Aura skill is the only one doing magical damage?
It doesn't seem to fit in the package of the other skills for the Tank. I do see how it could fit, if it did no damage, or physical damage, instead.
my guess: Threat need sdamage to be generated
The stagger I'm guessing is finisher selected on melee weapon and chilled selected on your ranged weapon, technically both weapons are active at all times so every finisher done has a dice roll to proc both weapons finisher effects
I consider it a bug when it is not mentioned in the tooltip
hey Clerics has healing power rating been nerfed into the ground? It used to give a lot of healing increase at now it gives almost the same as magic power rating
Ye there is no reason to gear healing power when you can just go magic power
Hi all
I am playing a cleric currenlty and am wondering if while targeting my tank can my ranged weapon auto attack tank's target?
I tried and successfully managed to kill a mob just with the aura that was stuck underground
it took 5 minutes... but aura powa
There is an option in targeting called defensive targeting that let's you target an ally and an enemy at the same time
god save
hey guys, any suggestions on level 10 cleric gear?
So yesterday someone said books are BiS for rangers for PvE, is it because of flat dmg?
I’m a super noob and trying out mage with a spell bow. Has anyone tried this combo or should I be using a wand?
I've heard of lots of folks using spellbow as mage and really like it. Because you can increase base ranged Penetration, which affects both physical arrows and magic spells.
You can also mouseover heal with the party/raid frames, though it doesn't work with all spells. So far it has worked with all the cleric spells except Mend
As a cleric - does later gear currently speed up Judgement cast times?
Nobody?
No
Fair
Not meaningfully anyway
Appreciate it - just figured I'd hope.
Cleric solo seems more capable than Mage solo, but that balance is struck well I think.
It's a spell I rarely used, I felt the mana sustain from essence was a better trade off
It's probably more effective if you need damage than if you're a party member, realistically.
You have so many near instant heal options that judgement is a waste do to lost auto attack finishers
For solo
It's my intro hit for conflagration at level 7, but I appreciate that insight.
Once you get a good short bow or wand it'll feel very different
Makes sense - I'm swapping between scepter and longbow right now.
Tanks need a buff
Bard question, might just be a skill issue, but is there something up with the Apocalypse Saga ability? I tried using it on some mobs and didn’t notice anything at all happen.
Clerics - is anyone using the restorative option on consecrated wave? Doesn't seem to be healing me. Not tested it with a group to see if they get healed. Not sure if I am expecting something that doesn't exist. Dont see an icon for any sort of healing, but some of the healing skills show one, others don't. EDIT - nevermind. after the reset this evening it started working
what yall thinkin will pair well with fighter when we get secondary classes
Hopefully, all of them
It seems to go backwards sometimes
Other times it goes underground
Not sure why but it likes going in random directions instead of the direction you cast
Pretty sure I had it go strait down once
Ive pulled a mob from the floor below me
Also behind me thru a wall
Is shortbow or longer better on ranger?
It's bugged, and does nothing. Submit a bug report and then just don't use it, haha.
I feel like right now that tank feels somewhat "tank" lacking compared to what dps can do.
Tank cant really solo much PvE while DPS can.
Tanks also suffer from having to repair gear more than most classes and suffer EXP dept alot more than other classes too.
Grit gives more like 6% mitigation and iron aura is sitting at under 1%. I would love for tank to get some love either on the More HP department or rework some of the mitigation nerfs.
ANd rework reflect to maybe last more then just 1 hit, and give it longer CD.
Rework ideas - Tank
Iron Aura/Grit
Iron aura give Max HP instead of mitigation
Grit should give more than 6-8% mitigation considering that it reduces the tanks DMG or also provide some CC immunity to some degree.
Reflect
Reflect is a fun ability but maybe give it the Reflect dmg that lasts longer but also has a longer CD. Gives tanks the oppertunity to turn a burst down and flip it around. WIll give somewhat more skill awareness to tanks but make it more visually for other people to see when its used
Slam
Slam be given a larger AoE or something more obvious as rn it feels like the range is a very tiny shoulder tap.
Taunt
Give "Taunt" fixation on the mob to target tank maybe? Thoughts?
Wall
Make the "wall" Larger or ability to spec into it some more to maybe make it actually work as "Yasou wind wall" to remove projectiles? Thoughts? its a long CD ability and would be really big.
Vengeance
This skill feels so useless.
Make it give a larger shield on use thats actually noticeable cause in this day and age tanks still take a shit ton of dmg and using this to get a 10 hp shield at level 25 isnt very usefull at the cost of mitigation.
The dmg it deals isnt very noticable aswell. doing auto attacks and getting extended finisher rn is alot better
Aegis
Increase its size by quite alot more would be nice talking x2 or x3 since its so tiny right now just like iron aura.
Is there a guide or something for equipping or getting gear for mage once you hit lvl 25?
Disappointing. But thank you all the same lol.
Best option, the forge, carphin, or steelbloom for level 20 gear
Depends on what set you want
WWhat about Citadel?
Which citadel you asking about?
Cause I’m pretty sure I listed the 3 main locations for farming level 20 gear
with stleebloom you mean citadel?
It’s citadel of steel bloom
So yes, i just call it steelbloom
I'm looking for gear, because Weapons I'm set rn
Check Ashescodex for database of gear, check what gear you want and go where it says you can get it
Wisdom is also decent for crit and cast speed
Bards, are you mainly wearing light armor or medium and what weapons are you using mainly to get the most out of the class? Currently running short bow and either great sword, or sword and focus rn. What have you been seeing works well?
whats better for fighter medium or heavy?
Heavy offers the least magic resist, light offers the highest MR, medium is in-between. I personally haven't seen the benefit of MR, so I've been going heavy.
you will also have to consider the setbonuses
You havent been vaporized by enough mages yet
Heh, was MR working during the last playtest? Haven't checked it since the stat nerf.
Full medium steelbloom set
It’s a int set and gives decent defenses against both phys and magic
@agile saddle what weapons have you been using? I just got a book from Carph, the blood book, so I just equipped that but have mainly been using the short bow. Does it really matter or just one with best magic attack/speed?
I use wand/focus and sword/focus
i like the cast speed
The damage difference is about 30 magic power
Has anyone attempted energy focuses on rangers?
They use it with 1hsword
I’m told it’s pretty good
Huh. Neat. I just tried a copper focus and it does change the stats, so we'll see how well it works. :o
new speculation/idea for bladecaller: stance switching also functions as summoning
so you enter red stance and summon 2 daggers, enter green and summon a sword and shield, blue a greatsword or something

Please checkout and provide some feedback
Tanks right now kinda in a bad spot
Does magic cast speed impact bards?
Are stats lvl capped? At lvl 16 Cleric I have 154.7 magic power Use the +16 Int Scroll and dont get a boost in Int or Power
Which classes are doing AoE pulls to level atm?
For tanks, do folks run sword or mace with shield?
imo mace for the stagger
mages and bards, fighters might be able to to but not sure on it
Cleric
what professions would you recommend for mage?
craft
Professions don't affect your class/archetype. If you want to craft thing that YOU can use, then best bet would be Arcane Eng, Tailoring, Scribing, etc..
Artisan gear provides combat stats, which is kind of strange. But also fairly minor, but if you really want to optimize then it's a thing.
bard at least felt a lot slower to me than during P1, probably due to the gear changes + dark lullaby nerf
bard is great because cathartic heals u on aoe tick. so you stay super healthy while kiting everything around and use finishers and extended finishers between cds to tick mana back with refreshing
I know 😉 Just killing time was higher for me than on mage or fighter, which it wasnt by much in p1
archers what are your thoughts on the class? do you like it, is the damage good?
any mage spell short bow builds?
ok thanks. what lvl of the prof I need to be journeyman in that profession?=
20?
and yet another bug: I purchased a caravan then was disconnected, came back clicked on the recover caravan button and now I cannot get on it as it is partially underground
so, I logged out and back in and now I can't see the caravan but one of my guild m8's can
Try leaving the area and coming back so it re-renders?
Be sure to fill out a detailed /bug report also
Is there a table or anything that describes each classes base stats and how much they get per level up?
You have a lot of stagger-at-will in your tree. I think you can make a good case for sword, but mace is the go-to.
Using sword feels better after experimentation. I haven't done any numbers or anything, but with the staggers that I have, I feel like sword is nicer.
You get bleeds which fills your screen with numbers..!
does anyone know if the second architypes are out yet?
is not out yet and it wont be before a while
thanks
Do you feel like they intend for vengeance as an option for tanks to be a sub-dps or sub-tank? skill seems to generate basically no shielding or aggro for main tanking
We had 2 tanks yesterday so I "off tanked" and it had some decent value. But for anything else it's not really worth putting on the skill bar.
Feels like the numbers are just way too awkward on it, your using courage so your sacrificing dr or with grit activated actually sacrificing damage to deal damage. Then the 0.1 to 0.2 to 0.3 even with "Rush of Courage" and shield bash can optimally get 7 out decently quick but thats only 1.4% hp shield which is basically nothing
it'd be fun if there was talents to either make it for shielding or make it straight for dmg
And i get the dmg modifier of +15% but it starts out at 90% weapon dmg so its only dps advantage is how quick it is
Yeah it only has value if your not being attacked, which is kind of strange as a tank. But if your not being attacked, so not running grit, the DMG/sustain of vengeance isn't bad. The shield will stack so when you take an AoE or something it's not bad
Which vengeance feels bad... Not suggesting it's ok. But there is a use case where you run 2 tanks, the 2nd tank helps gather mobs/adds, runs protect, and in that use case vengeance is ok.
It does cleave
i know but the cleave is dr'd
so like you hit 1 mob for a 100 but the rest for 10, idk its "cleave" by name but not real cleave
I see, yeah the cleave isn't great AoE damage
like i like skills that use our classes resource cause it makes it more of an active resource other then holding onto 100 courage cause its more dr and dmg under grit
and spending it on dr buff or aoe knockdown
If you see someone solo killing zombies as a healer, you can kill them cause of the negative health mechanic/bug
Lolwot
but then theres this way to push with mages that i saw a youtube video of someone pushing people off the top of carphin
You can also silence tanks after they pull and not go red and watch enemies wreck the players
the debuff zombies cause, this red cross (i think ghosts cause it too but it doesnt cause the healing dmg) debuff that says "cannot be healed" but your actually taking damage instead of being healed
so i got heal nuked to death several times at church cause of one random zombiie in the pull
Tank is way more heavily punished than other classes because of how much more they die compared to other classes, they can hold aggro but they are so squishy that if the healer gets distracted for 2 seconds the tank dies, loses their loot, and everyone else runs
so tanks have greater repair costs and have less loot than the other classes
it only happens on certain server workers, let me guess you were at gravesite peak, this bug also happens in steelbloom where there are no zombies
A little south but that makes sense
Yeah i am solo farming today to actually save up some glints for buying con scrolls & food buffs, hopefully improve survivability a bit
theres too much of a learning curve while tanking and learning spots to actually save on glints
the bug also turns passive health regen into damage, but relogging fixes it
zombies and webspinners are like the 2 mobs tanks can easily solo farm (though once i get my 20 weapon that might change)
for some reason something is changing the player state to undead where all heals are damage, and it only happens on specific server workers
Farming zombies for so long, feels like its 1)only while your standing in spit, 2)tanks self-heals still work even with red cross or healing bug (but like how snare never seems to work on some mobs this is expected)
But thanks for telling me about the negative regen, its generally pretty safe farm but sometimes feels like im popping safeties for strange reasons, dying to my own powers
Honestly in steelbloom might be because of the firestarter aoe on the floor causing it 🤷 would be interesting if its that interaction
after leveling a ranger i'm leveling a cleric and its absolutely wild how different this game is when you have agency over whether you die or not
I'm a lvl 12 ranger, I rarely die thanks to my CC and dodge. But I get what you are saying, heals are always nice to have
Give rogue now, buff tank.
if there are, they're not Intrepid-run, it'd be random people
i haven't seen any, and can't find any with a cursory discord search
rogue will be put in when ready, the phase is set to last months so have patience.
class balancing will also come later, as it's not the most important thing to work on right now.
instead, why not share thoughts on how you think Tank should be buffed instead of just asking for "buffs" in general?
Nyce already outlined all of that in his last tank video.
Writing a gigantic post here wouldn't be seen or anything.
thank you for the video recommendation 👍
Vengeance
Do lil dmg - gain tiny shield - do alil bit threat but lose mitigation
Add If used when recently recieved dmg gain shield (more than 10hp) and/or do % dmg back? (lets say you take dmg from 3 different abilities you can deal 40% of that dmg back if used within 1-2 seconds of recieving it. but obvi add a longer cd than what it is
tldr. doggo popo ability
https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/comment/493788#Comment_493788
My tank opinion from phase 1/2 with getting to 25 within 3-4 days both phases
TANK Cooldowns too long
Tank cant solo farm
Most EXP Debt And repair costs
Yes it can solo most classes in 1v1, but its not a 1v1 dueling game
Lowest dmg by a landslide compared to most classes
Bearmark from ranger gives same amount of mitigation as Grit (6-8%)
Tank needs an ability that doesnt increase his single target ability but something that can help with farming. / Actually being a tank
Reworking reflect to work in the same way as most MMOs doing reflect dmg back to anyone that attacks within a certain time frame?
Tank needs a larger HP pool/Heavy armor needs some reworking/mitigation reworking so it can actually tank and not be so reliant on good healers/bards on clerics too much
surely everything will be better when you can be a tanktank
Problem rn is tank feels very bad for any kind of solo content, and for groups you are legit just aura and hoping clerics can heal you before you die since u can't tank anything without a healer
Grapple is buggy, wtf is iron aura, why is grit less mitigation than ranger mark, exp debt, repair cost, no chance to solo farm to get that back, why reflect 1 time use, why are almost all CDs so long, why can we barley tank/soak, why is blocking so bad, Why is iron aura range and aegis so short, why we have tomahawk throw and not hammer throw, why does it take 2 waiting days for a 90s cd 20% max hp flag to be placed
Depends where you solo, webspinners & zombies are possible. I feel like the class has this huge "works off stagger" vibe that hasn't been truly adjusted yet (like maybe tomahawk was meant to stagger so you can tomahawk into grapple for the disable reduction on grapple resist), find its almost intended to ground pound into flag as a combo so i feel like they should maybe share cds lengths? aegis feels just not worth(like you'd rather just oath for team heal) maybe some sort of slow pull to yourself but overall clashes with flags identity so can't really justify it's uniqueness at this point, maybe replacing it with some sort of temporary duel mechanic where (target can only dmg me for x seconds). I feel like lost arks recent class breaker makes a cool new idea to counter, where it casts early if the counter gets hit but still goes off even if not albeit a much slower cast as another option for tripping.
I also find that block sometimes just doesnt block, do some mobs just pierce, is certain aoes based on blocking towards the center of aoes? I just don't understand enough about the block mechanic so far
I’m not aware of any but would love having some
ive seen a few in the community links i think
i see one for ranger but idk how well its put together
With the mage prismatic beam, how does one go about getting it to use all 3 elements?
I don't think you can, it's just going to use whatever your empowerment is at the time you cast it
so if you wanted it to be a lightning beam, you cast lightning spell, or frost etc
all 3 you can get by standing in magic circle when using it
have a cleric on Lotharia and just noticed that Chains of Restraint do not show area of effect, is that known issue? (was not using them much)
confirmed with another cleric, bug reported
Anybody else having the issue that on bards sometimes dances randomly start?
Yes since day 1. Lots of things haven’t been fixed yet.
Ohhhh ty
Just hit over level 20 for th efirst time with bard. Anybody have any good builds or info for pvping especially for caravan protection?
there are a lot of setups that can work
most important thing is to learn/practice the movement tech w dance mastery: energy
to the point where ur flourish resets and options out of flourish resets are something you dont have to think about at all
pick combo that works well:
marionette -> walk up right next to them -> discordance -> mes dance ->
scepter combo -> silence -> get off the stage flourish cancel ->
ranged weapon combo/dark lullaby (if you have 5 debuffs, if not wait til 5) ->
chilling lament -> tomato -> ???
You can also do different variations of this based on what u need and its fine
--
nimble dance/shield dance are really important in group pvp
shield dance -> lovely serenade ST at denying low hp picks bc the mitigation shield stays up longer
for saga buff just keep 15% damage stacked imo. any of them are fine though. I don't personally use the sagas themselves but some love them.
use dynamism, flourish resets, epic melody to keep caravans going faster
usually stay in epic melody, menacing if u have a couple rangers bc it buffs barrage so hard
swap to pensive melody at 10 res stacks and dump the stacks + hymn of the mind for mana burst if needed
lifesteal melody has potential. rng
marionetting a healer is brutal. wings doesnt currently get out of it
marionette -> silence denies their healer for a long time
awesome, this is super helpful! Thank you so much!
this is just my opinion ofc. i think 'playstyle' is a bit of a meme concept tbh but there really are multiple ways to approach it that are fine
the fastest way to improve is just to never use a mount once you get dance mastery: energy
you outrun crocs and ebonsteeds
w the proper tech
and it forces you to practice a lot
awesome!
yeah this answered a lot of my questions. I love the idea of having tons of move speed especially for scouting
ill send u some vids
Are there any places where builds are being shared?
Marionette —> Incap —> Dark Lullaby
last tick stuns them, then silence and wand combo with menacing for a big burst
for bard, do these talents on the tree actually do anything for mock and jest?
It lets you use the skills individually instead of the quick wit that defaults between them to how you are targeting at the time.
Seperate keybinds
Also allows you to hover cast jest on allies instead selecting them
Which class is more desirable? Bard or Cleric? I like both, so I'll play who they need more of.
Both. Bard = mana battery require 1 for a group. cleric health + rez most high lvl require 2 per group
That’s like saying cleric isn’t a health battery because they can aoe silence, slow, and buff ally attacks with blessed weapons
legit 95% of cleric's tree is dedicated to heals
bard has pensive and hymn
k
Mana battery still it's best use
Cleric needs more dps skills
Hit me up with those also if you wouldn't mind. I consider myself a pretty good bard player but have only been in PvE, the insight would be awesome to learn other ways to be better and get involved in PvP.
anyone use the talent that enables juggling 2 songs? Havent really tested it much, is it worth it?
fundamentally wrong
Yes and no.
Not bad at all, it's a bit problematic though as the linger phase depends on for how long you've played the previous melody and you want to switch fast sometimes to unload resonance stack with the according melody.
Any one else play tank and feel super squishy compared to the fighter class?
tank is squishy until you get gear
I’m full blue ashen gear
as a fighter, they should perhaps nerf red stance
I’ve even enchanted my gear a good bit as well and still just get deleted
They could definitely use it
the fact alone that Tank seems to have less Temp HP generation than a fighter is weird....
also, losing 3.3 damage mit for 1% temp HP is so weirdly weak
I can’t pull a big pack of lvl 9-10 goblins to farm I’ll get deleted even with full blue gear but I’ve watched a lvl 19 fighter pull a big group of lvl 24 mobs and just burn threw them and then getting crazy amounts of hp back
There will be class balance passes soon enough. Just make note and feedback where you can I guess. I see level 9+ fighters farming the level 2 goblins almost daily. No idea what they are doing. the xp has to be trash for their level.
they farm for gear
it would just be copper gear. Not really worth anything. Armor is a quest.. then all of that meaningless once they hit 10. Seems like a giant waste of time. in my opinion
maybe for glint. in tiny amounts
but to each their own, if they are happy who am i to question that heh
Does anyone else feel like vengeance is pretty mediocre or even not worth using especially in early levels? It uses courage so that makes Fortify less effective when you need it, and if youre actively tanking then you have very few chances to use your full combo to get more stacks of courage and having more courage lets you do more damage because it reduces the damage penalty on grit. It needs like a base shield value or something thats minimal at higher levels but actually gives you some value at lower levels.
Tank honestly feels mandated to usually just hide behind shield so there are very few chances to do a full sword combo to generate courage because even when weaving shield to allow you to attack but block the enemy its never enough time.
I've been tanking using a 2h with vendor gear. I don't put vengeance in my CD rotation unless I'm solo and I'm not using grit. Using courage solely for aegis in groups seems to be working so far.

Aegis only applies the defense to others doesnt it? Or does it work on you as well and the tooltip is wrong
Any tanks know if you can break sleep with shake it off's unyielding?
is it possible to apply all of the rangers Marks on the same target?
id try it out myself but im still a low level ranger Dx
hmm i think it says you can only have one mark per target
Never
You can
Can’t break silence tho
any doc or excell with artisan synergy ?
The year is 2035. Rogue still not released
The desert biome is nearing completion
We are all level 50 with bis
<@&542059693779058748> Im a little sick of tank exploiting that damage mitigation in PvP & PvE, ruining the whole fun for everyone with exploits. Can it be brought to attention to the dev team so they can solve it asap?
https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/65025/infinite-mitigation-tank-bug
Yep we can leave a note and the link~
Ahh I’ve noticed after several minutes in a party my mitigation climbs up to 94% but wasn’t sure if it was a buff from another class or a bug or something I was doing
Bards : Crit Chance increase or the power increase spells?
Magic damage has its own variation of crit chance
food and buffs will specify which ones are increased
Unless it’s global crit chance
If it doesn’t specify either, it’s both
RIP crappy tooltips
Also, just a PSA: Skinwalkers can be hunted for exp, but NEVER drop carcasses. its a bug
Question, shouldnt I see an imediate dmg increase by using mark of bear on targets? because i dont think i see it. Testing on Cused mobs at forge.
What is generally the best weapons for a mage? I'm currently using a wand/focus and 2-handed spellsword
What's everyone favorite bard theme? Joy? Chaos? Triumph? Etc
Any news on rouge?
Depends on party comp
If the dps are all magic, magic power/crit
if dps all phys, phys power
If it’s a mix, then go with stamina regen one or magic power to make cleric heal better
playing fighter feels like cheat codes, im level 12 and just farming one star 18s or so, and even some level 20s i can kill quickly, just simple stuff like wolves tho
HOT TAKE
CLOTH TANKS ARE LEGIT
I mean you can tank a mage I guess
Considering how hard mages hit with a shatter combo and amount of consistent damage rangers output , leather tanks are probably bis
honestly I think Leather in general is going to be BIS
I want to go 5 leather 3 heavy on my Cleric
but don't Tanks have some skills that help with magic mitigation? I think?
A friend of mine suggested that Rogues may be coming on Wednesday? Anyone else know anything about that?
it's not yet on the PTR so that's def incorrect
Gotcha. Thanks!
Group and melody dependent. Run the proper story that enhances the group and your melody.
i'm looking a little beween if i shall go support or tank as i don't have any freinds playing doing alpha and i play tank in wow for as i play alot of solo there but in games like LoL i main enchanters
it on ptr it might show
so we might start to learn about the rogue
That would be awesome 🙂
and pirate softwere talked about haveing a interview with steven tomorrow at some point we might learn more there as the info about ptr was from him
just a hits up just checked the road map adn Rogue is on there for this alpha phase so we will get it before phase 3 start so we know that for scure then it not clear tho on the road map though
Im sure Steven said in his live stream he hopes to get Rogue into PTR by the end of Jan.
Is bard better when focusing on healing or damage.
imo, focusing on supporting the party would be the goto, do everything a little.
Atm, I'm playing my bard like that :
- When there is big trouble, I'm supporting healer with my healing (+ Cheerful)
- When everything is fine, I'm turning out as an off DD (+ Menacing)
- When my party need mana, I'm turning out as a mana battery (+ Pensive)
Of course, I'm using supportive spells like shield, CC, stories... everytime.
For PvP, I'm mainly in menacing melody, but It's more a playstyle (As I ultimately looking for playing bard/archer), I can understand other bards playing with cheerful for example (Future bard/cleric ?).
We're at the mercy of group composition realistically. Bards are there to enhance group capabilities, but can fill the healer role in a pinch, off heals, mana management or dps enhancement. We will always be involved with buffing and debuffing also
Do you guys think it's worth it for a cleric to take a shield? I've been levelling one but the guide I was using as a jumping off point recommended greatsword, tho personally I feel like I prefer the fluff/aesthetic of like a sword/mace and shield cleric but I'm not sure if that's just an awful choice in-game.
For soloing I think you want a greatsword, for group play when you are actually attacking you’ll use a bow tbh. But for stat reasons you’ll probably still want the greatsword as your other weapon. I think 1h/shield is in a bad place right now tbqh, just not enough value from the stats. 1h/oh is okayish but 2hs generally have more stats. Once you enchant it up the 1h/oh might outperform. Regardless though you’ll be fine, if the aesthetic is what matters to you it won’t be THAT big a deal.
Nice. Yeah I did forget about the offhands, I'm just also used to MMOs forcing healers/support into paper-thin light armor so already the fact that I can get good stats while wearing heavy armor as a cleric is a good deal
Do we have any rogue info yet?
Rogue is an archetype in Ashes of Creation.
The rogue is more physical disable oriented: Applying bleeds or snares or having precision damage that's situational. Being stealthy. That's how I view the rogue role... The rogue's like you don't see me, I'm coming in and boom I stab you in the back and I do extra damage because of it. Now you're bleed...
What is the best weapons for a mage? I am currently using a wand/focus for ranged and 2-hdr spellsword
I'm no fancy pants mage or nothin, but I hear spell shortbow has been working well for a lot of people
Someone said it was entering PTR in like... days. But I havent seen any official comminication on that. Steven seemed to imply late Jan, maybe early feb we might see it on the alpha 2 client.
But its all hearsay atm
You aren't enjoying the entire nova frontline of 98% mit tanks?
Pretty much
Also, take a look in the wiki page, there are some skills datamined. Super cool 🙌🥷
After playing Bard for a good bit. I'm not particularly a fan of themes. Saga itself is an underwhelming ability with the anti-grav being the defacto best tool.
Themes meanwhile are less utilized for their buffs and more used either to prepare a saga or used to stack resonance. Trying to juggle your themes to have your prefered saga ready is pretty annoying since the buffs do not indicate what theme you're overriding.
Nothing on the wiki is datamined. Its against ToS.
Its taken from streams etc.
Example: It's difficult to keep attention to (Y, B, B) when you want to keep the benefits of those themes up. Especially if you set it as (B, Y, B.) Many times you'll find yourself ruining the theme and doing (B, Y, Y).
If there were an easier way to recognize what theme is going to be overridden next, it'd probably make bard less of an annoying class to understand.
Sagas suck
Only one that’s useful is used to get around with low gravity
It's a shame too. You'd think the 3 Reds would be your main burst PvE tool, but it isn't.
Even when it seldom works, it doesn't do any meaningful damage.
Fire dragon only works 10% of the time
I’ve had it pull mobs from 20 meters behind me thru a wall instead of cast on mob infront of me
The knockback one I'm sure I can utilize for griefing, but I've yet use it in PVP
Knockbacks vs players just barely work
When it actually works properly with a squad it’s half the damage of volatile and only lasts 5 seconds
It’s melee range tho
And it can bug and yeet a target thru a wall
The knockback saga is just slightly more range than lullaby. It's hard to tell since it doesn't even have VFX
I think I've gotten more damage out of it too than the fire saga which is dumb
Nah lullaby has range based on aoe or not
Aoe has half attack range of longbow, single target has bow range
Lightning saga is actually melee range
Idk, I've been using it for kiting thaumaturges when Im forced to solo farm. I feel safer using the lightning saga than lullaby or lament
Melee range is roughly half a vine field
I use weapon finisher into chilling lament for the 5 debuffs then lullaby for max damage
Damage is decent
Gonna be a sad day when they fix the weapon bleeds
Nah, it’s needed
I shouldn’t be able to drop 5+ different debuffs on a single target
Yeah, it makes bard pve bareable, but makes every other class insane.
Idk if you've been hit with a firebrand bow yet, but it is not fun
Nah it’s a shit way to avoid using combos in a team
Should require all the archetypes and thier unique debuffs to do the combos that shred a target
The only debuff that actually sucks and hurts your team is snare
Share causes immunity really quickly which prevents chill, which removes freeze
Yeah, it's definitely bad for PVE
Pvp too
Chill is double snare slow
I mean in PVP I always feel perma snared
Rarely have immunity and it instantly is added back when getting nimble active
@strange pilot test
Tank best pvp class
wondering now if Bladecaller will have an augment to change Blitz into a teleport (throw sword ->teleport to sword at moment of impact) and/or redirection (use a shield as a foothold)
but Vergils Mirage swords are a definite possibility.
... there is actually so much stuff they can be inspired by from DMC...
Fighter/mage will give that augment alteration
Steven used a movement skill that charges at a target as an example for how secondary augments will affect skills
Maybe I misunderstood this tweet https://x.com/aocintel/status/1870127112902062583
A few @AshesofCreation Rogue data mined abilities/skills per Ashes Codex.
Rogue is currently scheduled for January+ and may be tested on PTR as soon as this week.
You can also find 9 Rogue skills and descriptions listed on the wiki. https://t.co/q45NLUhn6O
#Ashesofcreation
wiki =/= the codex
👍
The wiki is definitely datamining, same as the codex. In fact I didn't include the rogue skills on the codex in any menu, while they were already shown on the wiki 😉
All fansites out there right now use datamining to some degree, some get their data from the codex, some get it from the wiki, most from the client directly
Just ask Lex if he is
There are rogue skills on the wiki and none have been officially released yet.
Not even on stream. Other ppl datamined them and wiki copied their work
the rogue skills are from the official website....
Got a link to that? Cause rogue on official website is just this
I would love to tell whomever designed bard that I thoroughly appreciate their vision for this class
Anyone know when we will be able to choose a 2nd achetype for our class?
@orchid socket May onwards although like Rogue it may be not dead on the release of Phase 3 (Likely same for Summoner). They also said it will start with Tank and Cleric. Which makes sense, you'd want to release them in sets, so any bugs can be worked out in sets of 16 class combos, all 8 of Cleric and all 8 of Tank THEN release another 2 and bug fix them and so on. Rather than launch all 64 class combos at once and get a stupid number of bug tickets, not knowing if the bug is from that class combo, or an interaction with another class combo etc.
will phase 3 have a character wipe?
i don't think anyone can tell you definitively, as this is always an alpha, but it's been stated the desire is to have no wipes going forward, and just do fresh start servers
I am very new, but rolled my second char today, a bard. I seem to be killing myself by attacking anything. I hit a level 1 goblin and my health goes down significantly with every swing. I don’t even think the mob is fighting back but I die. What am I doing wrong?
Bug people are having. Check #alpha-two-bugs-issues-old
Against physical damage. As a caster i can depop tank very easly because they have more physical armor and poor magic resist.
which gear type is best for fighter? and where do u get it. im lvl 20 im also looking for a 2h weapon.
carphin two hand is probably a good start and not that hard to get
So is tanking/healing noticeably more difficult after the tank mitigation bug fix?
Dunno healed two separate pug tanks last night and they got chunked as often and as big as they used to so not really. Would have to test with guildies to know.
Carphin for weapons + full gryphon medium armor
You want carph stonewatchers greatsword, crystallized bow, and bloodrunners armor honestly
Thank you all, I was lucky to get the bow today!
Yooo when Rogue?
In phase 3 we will be getting the beginning of the subclasses with Tank and Cleric subclasses.
Does this mean that Tank and Cleric will get access to all 8 subclasses?
Or will all 8 classes get access to Tank and Cleric subclasses?
I'd assume the latter, as it wouldn't make sense for tank and cleric alone to have access to more things than everyone else
All 8 will get tank and cleric secondaries
So
fighter/tank
mage/cleric
cleric/cleric
Has there been anymore clarification on that besides this? It's not clear whether cleric and tanks are receiving their augments or their augments are going to be available to other archetypes.
If I had to guess, this looks like it will be for cleric and tank, as in those two classes will get some augments. The "within" cleric and tank suggests this.
I feel like if it was all 8 classes getting the secondary archetypes, he language would be different, but I could be wrong
Im there with you I think that's more likely as well, the wording makes it a little iffy. Also, thank you.
Cool!! I really wanted to go Tank/cleric, so I wouldn’t have been set either way
all classes gain access to cleric or tank secondary archtype in phase 3
@mighty nimbus Pretty please cherry on top can you say which it's supposed to be?
Being asked so nicely by Lucifer how can you say no?
If i keep afflicting chill to a mob, does it eventually become frozen or the only way i can freeze is cone of cold?
I read that as specializations for Tanks and Clerics, not that other people can add tank or cleric to their secondary archetype.
everyone who can goes cleric as secondary to heal themselves on solo leveling
Nah, Fighter/Tank. I will be thicc
When minstrel. I want to jam out 😄 ( I kid)
I'm so ready to be a Tank/Ranger
Any good bards knows if the dmg output overall its higher with longbow/spellbook or shortbow?
Depends on what melody you are using
If menacing, shortbow is better(or wand/focus)
If not, it doesn’t matter what weapon you use as long as it’s got highest magic power you can get
Yeah i had that doubt because of the shock bebuff of menacing
If you plan to proc all the shock yourself with arrow storm shortbow, then it’s best
If you are not planning to do it yourself every time then any weapon
As long as you like using the weapon combos
Some feel like crap, others feel amazing
Got it, i'm playing more of a dmg bard and was at that corner about ranged weaps
I like the long bow cause of high dmg finishers its combine amazing with menacing crit.
Also do you know maybe how to obtain bloodcursed wand ?
Is wand/book basic attack attack speed based on attack speed rating or magical casting rating?
Do we have an estimated release time for the rogue?
No but it will go on closed ptr around end of jan
It seems the ambiguity was on propose 🙁
pretty sure thats a carphin wand
casting speed
estimated time the last i checked was supposed to be jan-feb
I believe it wont add abilities from the cleric tree from what i've read instead the secondary archetype adds augments to the existing main tree (of course it could mean, heal on certain abilities or leech etc.) but yeh
someone pls tell me melee cleric is viable 😩
that would be pretty cool, maybe enchant weapon on mage can get benefits of bless weapon lol sounds good
Maybe with tank or fighter subclass
Oh hell yeah dude. Its why for example Fighter main and tank secondary is a Dreadnaught but a Tank main and fighter secondary is a Knight. So each version plays off the main tree but it changes the outcome class depending on the primary
i kinda didnt think about that, i mean that the 2 archetype mixes can be different depending whats primary and secondary love that
When can you dual spec as you suggest @stark chasm ?
Well, whenever they introduce the secondary archetypes as an option in the alpha. But requirements wise you have to be level 25 when the system is in to chose a secondary class
Thats pretty sick
Seems also they open to the idea of changing the archetype which means you can experiment with the 8 different classes you could have based on the main archetype 👌🤯 Depends how hard they make it to change the secondary tho 😅
Bard / Bard OP
CAn someone try Hoarfrost (mage) in the latest patch and let me know if you just get some white flasbands as the animation
I can't wait to Cleric while I Cleric
She cleric on my cleric til I cleric
Tank tank gonna spank spank

As a mage can I use enchant weapon on myself? And if so, does it have any benefits?
At this time you can only enchant other allies weapons. You need another mage
for the bards here, how do you feel about Dark Lullaby skill?
I think its completely useless besides a Solo Single/AoE scenario
Are you stacking debuffs before using it? Are you mezzsing stuff before using it to stun mobs for 6 more seconds?
thats the whole point i am trying to say, if you mesmerize mobs in a party and then use lullaby it has no effect, cause memerize breaks the moment someone applies damage.
the skill becomes completely useless in a group scenario.
It's still good damage if there's a 5 stack of debuffs, plus it helps you build a stack of resonance while causing damage.
chilling lament is just 10 times better, has more damage, better aoe arch and actually applies 2 great debuffs
Chilling Lament is definitely not better damage if you're using Dark Lullaby right by using it later after debuffs have been applied. It has the same AOE arch and range and you can use them once every 25s.
but u are not playing bard for damage, u want the ccs and debuffs, and lullaby offers nothing of that in a group, just some meme damage
maybe lullaby is actually usefull in a 1v1 pvp scenario
Bards usage of skills is more of a prioritization over rotation.
Using a skill like Lullaby to help provide some damage is fine and a normal thing for me, additionally, it helps build a stack of resonance which can cause us to provide absurd burst damage if you're playing Menacing.
hmm maybe yea when combined with menancing and 30% from harmony
ok gotta test it one more time
i was kinda disappointed in the cc effects of the skill, which renders it completely useless, but maybe as additional damage it can be decent
on another note, what are you thoughts on cathartic melody?
I've admittedly barely used it. I could see it being useful in PVP with the Resonance proc (bleed/wounded) but in a group or solo I'd rather just play cheerful due to the 22% increased healing received and consistency.
However.... I've never done the math on the amount of life leech another person would do with it.
I'm once again asking for cleric's Purify to have an upgradable buff that prevents incoming conditions for X amount of seconds
Sounds like a tank augment
i think it can heal more on an aoe dd than using cheerful
if any dd hits above 1k on each target in aoe, he gets back 750 health
and by the way, i was wrong on lullaby, that skill hits like truck at the end of a weapon combo (when you also have 3 tragedy buffs and menacing on)
25% chance to heal for 10%, so effectively you heal for 2.5% of damage. Assume 1000 dps and you're talking an average of 25 hps.
no no, heal for 75% of the damage done
i have see it on myself when melee attacking in aoe, i got like 500+ heal. and i am no dps
That's great for PvP then along with the Resonance proc to prevent others from healing.
its probably better on endgame content when dps can hit big numbers
But I don't see a Bard using it over Pensive and Menacing...
Maybe a bard running in a group with 1 cleric?
i doubt you need to run pensive 100% of the time in pvp
Dark Lullaby in 1v1s is nasty.
Marionette —> free incap, stack anthem —> dark lullaby, last tick 4 seconds stun, charge up auto attack, silence, finisher.
Asides from that, in aoe farm, I’m just a mana battery anyway… no one cares about my damage….
I can also crit 1200 per tick of dark lullaby, whereas Chilling Lament is 400 per tick. Crit 600s. Although slow is useful in its own right.
I am playing Cleric, and planned getting str/dex, but i see there is only 1 skill that benefits (Enchant weapon).
Does the dual class into fighter give me some abilities to use? or is Cleric just mage/healer only?
Dual class not in the game yet
Max level is 25 and secondary archetype’s supposed to be unlocked at 25 but not here yet
So please do not go Dex/Str cleric

Or do, who am I to tell you what to do
😈 Now im going even harder on Str/Dex cleric
go be a menace to society I believe in you
To be fair, I've been going Int/Con/Mentality for my cleric. My damaging spells do about 15% less damage, but with healing power items and tankiness from con, my heals are about 95-100% effective, bubbles/shields are 200% more effective, and my survivability is easily 150%+
Works really well in pvp because I can live long enough to get off my long cast times or build divine favor
If you let me get the 4 second judgement cast off, it's over
Ranger update when???😭😭
Cleric is only a healer. Every archetype is one specific role.
I’m level 13 mage with crap gray armor. What armor is good and affordable to get? Are there mobs I should be grinding, or some special vendor I should buy it from?
At lvl 1 you can buy from vendors around places. At lvl 10 you can buy the next tier of gear. Also there is player marketplace in each town
Is physical pen working right now?
player marketplace or craft it yourself mostly
Group grind poi’s will have gear drops. Highwayman hills, church of the seven stars, and Oakenbane Keep are at your level.
Does running sns over a gs make a noticable difference as a tank?
im hopeful that once we get secondary archetypes, one of them will allow us to play a Phys bard, and convert our skills to phys scaling
cause right now cathartic is kinda dogshite, the resonant weapon proc is phys bleed(so minimal damage) and the healing is ok, but just running healing cheerful melody is better
I have a similar complaint to cathartic bleed wth ranger thunder arrow, where it gives magic scaling shocked, but I think that status is more so there to boost other people's abilities more than anything. Cathartic def needs a bit of a boost though.
Maybe something like deal (1/2 healing) damage to enemy lifestolen from.
It wouldn't surprise me. There are quite a lot of classes that benefit from debuffs that other classes provide. The Mage for example has a perk that causes Chain Lightning to trigger damage twice if the primary target is staggered. Yes the Mage can apply staggered themselves, but it's far easier and higher dps to wait for the tank in your group to stagger the target.
mage tank rolling on all the heavy gear eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Also you can do the quest lvl1 to find the Futniture on the side of the road towards Halcyon giving you 3 pieces of Light/Med/Heavy gear of your choice 🙂
Has anyone using spellbook with Echo as the deadly extended finisher just.. not seen echo proc, ever?
lol, ive never tried it.
i beleive its doesn't have a visual component, but only an extra tic of damage
It works for me, it’s just sometimes hard to see specially with spellbook because Spellbook has multi-hit and theres a lot of numbers already. But it’s there.
whats weapons are YOU using as a cleric? iam on 2h sword + shortbow since beginning. anything else good to watch for?
It would be fun if tank counter regen'd stamina over mana but I know that would be hard to balance in pvp
I can see the finisher, but I watch my buff bar and it never shows up. I can see my tank bud get it proccing though too and showing up on his buff bar (even though hes not using any weapons that have it...)
honestly, how long till this games become ashes of bards and mages?
cause theres no other class worth playing right now
So this is pretty speculatory but, I really like the idea of tanking with a 2h weapon. I really enjoyed how warrior and dark knight felt in ffxiv, being able to build up enough threat with their passive aura, then shutting it off and squeezing in as much damage as possible ti see the big numbers for a few rotations before turning it back on.
I know we aren't going to get multi-calssing for a while but, would it be a better idea to go tank/fighter or does this seem more like a fighter/tank description? Personally I feel like it might be fighter/tank and the multiclass in to tank would make one of the fighter stances similar to how grit works but, if it ends up just being a beefier fighter that would be kind of disappointing.
Right now I've just being playing a tank and using a 2h since passive block on the shield doesn't proc super often anyway. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Cleric/Tank or Fighter/Tank.
is this the most dmg combo? (most magic power?)
Idk, I've smashed both bard and mage as a Tank consistently.
Passive block is based on your shield stats.
It seems to be a flat 1% chance per point of block chance on your shield.
Couple it with 10% from having both weapons using block instead of crit/mana, it fires off pretty often, you can also reflect for a free block.
Shields are pretty valuable for a tank.
I tested using a level 2 goblin for about an hour just standing still with 2h and mace/shield, and the passive block chance even at 18 was between 35-37%.
When mobs have a huge penetration chance, shields become even more valuable.
The ideal situation would be to max out your 2h skills, and your 1h skills, and hot swap for different situations.
Interesting. To your credit, I'm only at level 12 and the two shields I tried were both vendor shields. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the active block since a lot of damage mitigation comes from skills and armor anyways and, for a lot of those telegraphed big hits I can just side step out of the way. The reflect skill is definitely in the rotation tho.
Might have to revisit shield for a bit though if it's working as good as you're telling me.
At level 12, it probably doesn't matter too much, but active block is also insanely good. With your block passive, you can mitigate so much damage.
Take Sephillion for example, an armored knight will use A slam ability that has high pen, Crit, and typically you're tanking multiple.
While you can tremor strike it, ground slam, and reflect, there's still going to be times where one of the knights fires off again, do you risk taking the pen/Crit for 1600 or block it and take 400? Most of the time you can't roll it out because of the huge stamina cost.
You can't just hold your shield up and pray, you have to time it.
Active block mitigates phys penetration and Crit as well.
Hiii. I jussssst started. I wanted to Cleric first but smite on 10s CD and only being able to scepter swing is miserable. I have other players straight up coming and yanking kills from me that I started on. Spent like 45m playing and am just shy of level 4.
Rerolled fighter and got to level 6 in the same amount of time just farming mobs.
Obviously cleric is a support so it's not gonna dam as fast but are there any tips I can get to make my initial experience better as a cleric?
I don’t know the cleric skill tree well but are there no skills you can take in the first tier that give you another damage ability? I thought you got Judgment or something like that.
I checked and yeah—you should be able to take Judgment at an early level so you have a second damage ability.
Tysm
so here is the data from hunting
that is some really excellent data thank you for gathering it.
np if anyone wants to do the math and try to calculate value from rarity please share
i misscounted should i go garther another 10 grems
So assuming a common = 1, uncommon = 2, etc.,
With 0 rating your average rarity is a 1.09
With 259 rating your average rarity is a 1.25
So the 259 rating appears to add approximately 15% in average rarity
No, I corrected for it when doing the math
i had no novice gear on for the first one and just used the starter bow
Does the starter bow have rarity?
dont think so
I assume it doesn’t, if so then the numbers above are correct
“Basic gear” = 0 rarity, I’ll edit
(It’s also possible that your level in the profession is giving a hidden minute boost to rarity but I have no idea if so)
ye possibly
Thanks for collecting the data
so each rarity calculates to around 0.058% increase
without possible other factors like luck and level
Oof judgement has an 18 second CD.
Just seems miserable for cleric. I have a 10s and then an 18s ability and then I'm just standing in melee swinging at things.
Anyone else play cleric that can give me any tips or suggestions? I'm sure it's fine with a group or later but early experience just feels so bad
I learned I can use a spellbook so thats more helpful to use.
i know a lot of clerics like the spell shortbow, iirc
I wonder if it would make more sense to start new clerics with a spell book rather than scepter?
They can pick one up right at spawn
how hard are you to spot with camouflage up?
If you're around a mage they can see righr through camo with one of their spells
In the room when you first spawn you can grab a Tome ( 2-handed ranged magical weapon with a bit of AoE ), use that. Don't use melee weapons with Cleric
Yeah I think my feedback would be just start the cleric with a proper weapon instead.
As an overall question of curiosity, how would you guys change Regeneration to make it a more impactful ability, rather than a self buff you forgot to throw on for an hour.
The devs need to pick a direction for Ranger. Am I an Everquest Ranger that is a Druid/Fighter hybrid? Or am I pew pew McBowGuy. Maybe I’m both. Right now it feels like pew pew McBowGuy with some random unrelated nods to EQ Ranger—Thorns, Regen, Strider, Camo. But the ENTIRE skill tree (except Group Strider) is pew pew McBowGuy. So either chuck out the Druid spells or remove some of the pew pew abilities from the skill tree and add some Druid abilities. Give me some medium heals, a fire DoT, a wolf summon, whatever. I prefer doing the latter and making us more like the EQ Ranger but really either direction would work. We just need coherence.
Ranger vine is pretty good
Oh true, the vine ability is good too
They die just as fast as EQ rangers I've noticed.
Did you grab a book in the starting room? Both weapons act as stat sticks and boost your power, regardless of which one you’re using. Fighter may come out hitting harder (as he should) but he does more sitting and eating than your cleric who can go from one mob to another or pull 2+ at a time without worry. It’s easier to even go kill the 1 star skeletons sooner as cleric than fighter.
Save up glint and get a spellshortbow and spell greatsword as soon as possible.
I see it as Pew pew with mobility & evasion to counter the lack of a pet to aggro/tank. Seems pretty clear to me.
im high enough level its fine now but those first initial levels are just not a fun experience (maybe it's just me). I did grab a book in the starting room but since I'm brand new didn't know how to swap/use it. And then I may have bugged because my first time swapping to it I couldnt cast mend so I assumed mend was locked to the scepter. Going from one mob to another or 2+ at a time is def a worry when anyone else can run by and steal the mob from me which was what my experience was. Again the feedback here would be to just start a cleric with a spellbook to make it more intuitive. And I'm aware it's alpha but a more fleshed out tutorial to teach weapon swapping would have also been helpful. (Can't really do anything about a community that wants to snipe kills from newbie clerics unfortunately unless we want to make it so first hit gets the tag rather than who does the most dam)
The advise to get a spell shortbow or gs is helpful.
I really dislike making rangers "ranged" focus. Melee/ranged agnostic "nature warrior" with unique utility is really the direction I'd like it to go. I'm with you on EQ ranger.
I think where that can probably happen is like Ranger/Fighter once secondary archetypes are released
I imagine the base classes are all fairly pinpoint-focused in their roles so that the dual-classes can mix and match distinct playstyles together
Because in a similar manner, I would LOVE a Mage with more melee capability too, like a spellblade
Using like, iceshields and lightning spears and crazy stuff
Yeah if fighter augments make ranger abilities melee, then it’s totally good IMO
Alternatively, if ranger augments fighter to be more “nature-y” and support-like, that’s a good direction too.
Speaking of which, I feel like the names for those two are backwards.
“Strider” should be fighter/ranger (Aragorn!)
“Hunter” should be ranger/fighter (what kind of Hunter would opt for a spear over a bow?)
I think the hunter term reflects more of a caveman-hunter
Yeah and I guess to my earlier point... if fighter as secondary augments ranger to be more melee, then it would fit "Strider" perfectly. So maybe it's actually exactly right
My Ranger redesign hope is to cut the really dull abilities from the talent tree and add some Druid-y stuff instead. So cut:
- all but one Mark (these abilities are dull, but having one as a burst cooldown is fine)
- all of the Hunts (these feel weak, awkwardly designed, and don’t add any fun to gameplay)
- the enhanced Ammo buffs (these aren’t interesting beyond picking one to synergize with your weapons, and I think this is best left to weapons, honestly)
And replace them with:
-
talents that augment our existing suite of random buffs, giving us the option to spec into a kind of tank-support role with a better Thorns that gives armor and buffs the damage, a group-wide Regen, etc.; this would let us fill a role of giving out some meaningful permanent buffs distinct from the Bard’s temporary, rotating group buffs
-
Some minor healing utility; just a single-target heal or weak group HoT or something, nothing fancy
-
An offensive debuff, either fire-based or nature (think insect swarm) that is a DoT and reduces enemy armor or hit chance or whatever, again leaning toward the support role
-
an additional group-wide buff that makes Ranger feel like an important one-of in an 8-man; could be as simple as just giving out Str/Dex/Con to the party
I mean, I feel like a lot of the things you want already exist or are coming. Marks are the offensive debuff, strider is the party wide buff that's unique to rangers, the minor healing utility is regen, and the specialization into more of a tank/support role is the whole double archetype thing. Like, ranger bard for support, or ranger tank for tank, etc.
Like, we already have 2 healing classes, I don't think giving rangers a straight up heal really makes too much sense, and dilutes the archetypes. Keep in mine, these 8 are supposed to be pretty focused, and then you customize and branch out with by taking two of them
At the moment, Ranger is the one class with absolutely no self-sustain outside of Regen (which is very weak at current). I agree the added archetype will make things make a lot more sense, but Ranger is in a really weird place right now as it feels like the person who designed the baseline skills was making a successor to the Everquest Ranger and the person who designed the skill tree was making a WoW Marksmanship Hunter without a pet.
Regen being weak is a different and much easier fix, and saying that rangers have no sustain except <main sustain ability> is obv going to be true
Like, I kinda get where you are coming from, but the only one that really stands out to me is the camo ability, and that's because it's wonky and jank
Marks might be able to go through a redesign and emerge as a sane debuff, but right now they’re nothing like a persistent debuff. They’re a short burst window on a 60 second cooldown that’s shared among all of them and eats like 4 abilities in our tree. Hunt is the same way. We have a ton of pointless slots that need to be filled in our tree because these abilities are completely useless once you have one of them—that’s true of Marks, Hunts, and Ammo.
Camo is another Druid spell. I think it even has the exact same name as the EQ Druid/Ranger spell.
I mean yea, you are supposed to pink one of them. Same as bard melodies
Yea, camo seems bad and jank right now
Well, it’s busted for driving caravans, I’ll tell you that
lmao, does it not get broken?
Nope. You can get AoE’d down though.
well and they can hit teh caravan directly, no?
you cant be targetted directly in a caravan anyway
unless its in boat form
I respect that but our tree has 3 overlapping Hunts, 3 overlapping Marks, and 3 overlapping Ammo options. Bards have 5 Melodies and different Bards need to use different ones.
I was under the impression the driver could be directly attacked. Is that no longer the case?
They still can if you target the driver before they enter the caravan
just cant target them after (it targets the caravan)
I can always target caravan drivers. Does that change when I declare as attacker?
weird, maybe it does. I never target them, and when ive been fought by people with intent to kill me, they havent ever targetted me, except the one time I was on a boat.
I mean, different rangers should be using different ammos and hunts
To be clear, I don't think the ranger is perfect how it is, but I also think the bones are already there, and so if hunts and marks get some love, that the archetype will be fine
The fix to regen being weak is just giving it mana regen as well as healing. That immediately makes it a more viable sustain option, atleast on the level of, say, overkill.
The biggest downside to ranger right now is it’s over specialisation of having to use a bow
If it wasn’t the bow class, they wouldn’t have been shoehorned into bow only skills
They should remove the bow aspect entirely as part of the primary kit, and focus on the animal/plant themes instead
If someone wants to be an archer, let them be an archer by using a bow
Not be forced to be a ranger to be an archer
Also got 8 overlapping sagas
So what is the best "spender" ability for a Fighter? Is it Berserk or Whirlwind? Both at the same time?
It kinda depends on what I need. Usually I'll whirlwind for just a little bit to ~75 momentum. That way I keep my AS bonus for the pull
Then I'll berserk after for a bigger burst with back to back Maim if I can
If the CDs don't line up nicely, sometimes I'll Berserk just for the CD reduction, whirlwind to dump as fast as possible, then Blitz + War Cry to build momentum as fast as possible
I always try to maintain as high momentum as I can to get the AS in between CDs
Well Mage just got neutered
Don't worry though
Fighters forms will persist after logging out (Actually I really like this as QoL but also, the only thing fighter needed apparently lol)
lmao mage ball entirely useless now
right alongside blizzard, which only works in open areas
damn is this live or upcoming?
PTR I believe
Ouch
tbh i feel that these changes may be justified, but only if the skills after level 25 play off of these. Like, multiple lightning balls or maybe something else. idk.
man, even aftershock is nerfed technically. 100+100 =200, but 130+65 =195 . While only a 2.5% nerf, that makes a big change on bosses with 1M+ HP
Anything for cleric
Nope no changes
They updated the buff and debuff icons
I wonder if they bothered to actually remove all the useless ones that we don’t need to see during combat
And also remove the unimportant buffs like the 3 bard saga icons and the 2 resonant weapon buff icons
Cause having only 3 buff icons available is useless when in a party with a tank(who adds a extra defensive passive buff) and 2 bard melodies to fill the bar full instantly
where are u viewing these changes? i cant find these patch notes
ah alright. yeah, i dont have ptr access unf
They can talk about them and have been
Mage getting deserved nerfs across the board, with buffs like 100% chance to apply element debuffs, but less damage
Bard menacing spike might have been nerfed - volatile debuff is 1.5 seconds instead of 6(not sure if debuff is universal or just mage for nerf)
Fighter, ranger and tank just had visual/qol changes
Deserved is a longer discussion. While I will not go into details as this is not the PTR chat, I am not a huge fan of nerfs as a tool. I would rather have liked to see the other DPS be brought up to the level of mage than nerfing mage. But that is my view on it.
Brings other classes up doesn’t always work. If they buffed everyone then it would throw a lot of stuff out of order. Mobs dying too quickly. PvP is too quick and one shotty. So now they have to go back in a buff mobs health/ defense and buff player health etc. sometimes it’s easier and faster to just remove the outlier.
Yea, if you only buff things, that's called powercreep
true, but there has been nerfs towards dps in general since late p1 now. on all edges
Still, it is not massive, so time will tell.
i love how we are talking about balancing at lvl 25 when the game goes to 50 and we dont even have 2nd archtypes yet XD
and missing 2 classes
Well they are introducing balancing now Om, so it is fine to talk about it then isn`t it.
people love to complain about nerfs, it's just how things go
it's why it's hard to do nerfs
harder* i guess
its just the ones who say things are "ruined" that always crack me up
not u just in general
its the same with artisan chat
its prob better to look at where the balance changes are heading to try to get a sense of what the goal of their balancing is vs if they are too weak/strong
mmm. I can understand pure artisans a bit more though. It got hit quite hard in phase 1. ( bug fix + nerf in same patch).
was a major smack in the face
also i would prefer everything to slow way the fuck down now while testing
then they can ramp later once things are more solid
if pvp is just a 1 shot fest then its just gonna be 💤
I felt most of my 1 vs 1 take anywhere between 8-15 sec depending
but my gear is trash so I guess it could change with high level weapons if they are even obtainable any more
yup i just remember seeing high end geared players mercing ppl in like 1-2 seconds
phase 1... yeah
but that was sick. and bugged
I had legendary wand + focus, could oneshoot anything. Rumour has it they had written the code so it multiplied instead of adding.
Granted I should have slept him instead of Cata
but yeah
yeah thats big 😴 vibes
I'd imagine the nerf would not even change the outcome of this fight
As the only skill really nerfed was ball which will still deal a lot of dmg
the ball of lightning will not tick you so much though
the shatter will still deal 1.5k dmg+
when you send that out, the real power of it is not the initial damage but the amount of ticks.
its still way too fast
But he used total of 4(!) dmging abilities to deal 4.2k dmg
sol dous is also miles away from your average 1 vs 1 though, they have gear superiority to the majority of the server
Oh yeah i was lvl 24 with ~115 str vs 180int mage(I asked)
we can 1 vs 1 when I Get back in, in two days ( pre nerfs). and check. I am more your average undergeared mage..: p
I mean the problem is not the mage itself
But how little hp pools we have
and how little armor matters
with 20%+ from passives, 10%+ from int/str and shaken/volatile
mm. magic resist should play a bigger part. And a fighter starting the fight in melee like that SHOULD walk over an equally geared mage
If you watch the video i would kill him had he not used his 50% hp barrier
Which is also kinda ridiculous
that scales on ability power ye
looking at our gear dif
I think the barrier is great, but I would have preferred it having a flat amount, however lasting a longer time
to avoid overscaling
Many fighters out there thinking it's best to stack level 20 gear that does not have str on them. lol. factor this fact into why they're not doing much regardless of whether it's pve or pvp. Stat stacking is the real endgame atm.
is there an ability to go invisible?
Steven, ranger or the upcoming rogue.
then whats that?
who is this person that can do it?
ranger
yes, i can't remember the name for it . you get it when you level up. it's one of those free abilities you get i believe
well of course youve never seen it before. thats the point
"Tank" Archetype
Adjust / change Reflect.
Option 1
Give it a upgrades path 1 locking out the other path.
1 is single target and works as it funksions rn while second path is turning it into a temp-active ability that reflects either dmg based on Hp/Con stat or just flat 100-200% dmg back to attacker for x amount of time.
Option 1 is rename reflect into parry and make a new ability called reflect.
This will def make tank feel alot better in both pve and PvP.
That reminds me, i saw a lvl 25 tank running around 1 shotting other 25s on vyra yesterday or the day before. Think the guy had full legendary gear maybe.
what are the qualifications for one shot?
what do you mean?
idk bro, i know nothing about tanks.. all i saw was engage dead engage dead
would love to see it tbh
tank has some high single target abilities
and ill assume they were going two hander
and turned grit off
1 guy posted a clip on here the other day. 25 mage losing to a 21 tank using a physical spellbook
that was funny
xd
https://youtu.be/XG-Gmc-Ou98 Tank pov
no other tank videos on AoC last 4 days
Tanks are good 1v1 dont take me wrong, but that is not the goal with the PvP in this game though right?
PvE they are helpless
yea idk man. i find myself tanking 1/4 of the time as a fighter tbh and i feel tankier lol
no idea
i think a simple reflect would do plenty
its good for both pvE and Pvp
if braindead attacks tank when reflect is on, skillissue
