Personally my opinion, having paid more than that between my account and my wife's account (500ish, maybe 600): we both played hundreds of hours each, had an absolute blast. I would absolutely have loved it to continue last February and I'd still be playing now, but if we're talking dollars per hour of enjoyment, I've spent way more at bars and going out to eat or to amusement parks for way less fun per dollar. ::shrugs::

I have never once backed a Kickstarter project or crowdfunded project with the expectation that it will definitely launch or come to fruition. I think that's a lot of the issue for folks; they spent money on something that was not guaranteed to be completed, while having the expectation that it was definitely going to be completed.

Looking at the data of Kickstarter backed gaming projects, only about a third of fully backed gaming Kickstarter projects actually end up delivering what they said they would. If folks did some research about the chances of their investment getting back what they expected, they would at least know the actual chances and perhaps save themselves some butt hurt

I had almost 1k hours on steam but didn't buy it through there since I already had a package otherwise I probably would have had game hours issue when trying to refund through steam. Thankfully when I claimed a refund through paypal I got it instantly, was a couple hundred I got back from the full voyager plus pack or whatever it was with all the skins that never got put into the game, minus whatever the basic version was which I bought many years prior which was too far back to try refund but I wasn't fussed about that anyways. Its a difference of how you define working hard. Static spawns was people coordinating logging in when the node was due to spawn, mining it, then leaving, pitentially with any competition leading to pvp. but it was once evey 4 hours for potentially 10 mins of engagement.

whilst non static spawns are less gatunteed legendaries, but you also got alot of all kinds of rarities, in those 4 hours you could have gathered thousands of resources, boosting node economies, helping newbies out with supply and potentially getting a heck of alot more than 5 legendary drops too! you are also actively playing not playing for 1 hour a day

You actually have to invest into your tools and gear and buffs as a group not just log in and find a static spawn before someone else then there's no pvp contestion because nobody other than you knows where it is.

This was always the long term plan. The alpha 2 implementation of static spawns was rudimentary. Ultimately the static resource nodes were meant to be larger veins of resources that contained some regional telegraphs, alerting people to their spawn times and usually in lawless areas. They were meant to compliment random non-static resource spawns.

Sounds fun and the best of both worlds, options to farm random nodes when you're solo or just chilling, and then when the group gets on head to a lawless static spawn and contest it. I still disagree with stuff like Copper having Legendary rarities. I think the rarity possibilities of a material should have scaled with the tier of material, so Copper would be Common/Uncommon, next tier of mat would be Uncommon/Rare, next tier Rare/Heroic, etc.

I spent close to 200 hours testing the "Luck Boosted" lawless zones to make sure I had an understanding of all the variables.
I learned Luck played a part in Quality and Quantity for Gathering and Processing... (Crafting was not affected by Luck.)

My first MMORPG was Ultima Online. I played nearly everything that’s hit the market since and my experiences were meh. Ashes, to me, was an updated UO for this generation of gamers. Again, to me, the money I dropped into Steven’s vision was worth it even if it doesn’t manifest because the alpha revived my interest in the genre. I am not closely following the legal case, but as a Gen X gamer, the alpha spoke to his dream and resonates within many of us.

It’s not that Ashes itself was a bad game, everyone who played it really loved it. Yeah it needed some work it wasn’t even close to being finished but for what it was, it was amazing.

What they are upset about is how everything is turning out, what seems to be lies from Steven, truth or not. A board of directors which was originally stated not to be a thing. A lot of things that were said seem to have been gone back on/lied/or not communicated when they were happening and we are figuring this stuff out when Ashes got shut down.

I’m still hopeful we can get something out of this, I hope that Steven didn’t lie to us and we can make this game great again. But it’s all on how the court works things out, and even then the game will never be the same. All the staff is gone, most won’t come back. The vision is still there, Stevens story is still there, but new people have new ways of doing things.

They are upset because they feel betrayed, and are extremely upset because the game may never come out, or will never be the same

People are so braindead from modern day MMO's that they forget once upon a time this was the norm. Anyone who ever played wow in it's prime or god forbid something like Runescape or FFXI knows what grinding levels is like

Every game doesn't need to follow the formula of "Rush to end game and beat the game" It's okay to have something that focuses on the journey just as much. Yeah, I agree and share that point of view. And I’m not even sure it really needs to be heavily balanced. Yes, it’s an MMORPG, and yes, hardcore players will have an advantage over people who play a couple of hours after work.

Ashes is exactly the kind of game where that can be offset with brains and skill—playing a bit with the economy, coordinating your group, and optimizing your progression through teamwork.

i out of party healed for people for hundreds of hours once i hit 23+. You just click on tank. Most of the time people shouldnt be taking damage. Unfortunately there was no real way to help people learn and level without making new characters which was an issue when im a GM >.>

I am just with my mage build flamethrower + magma mia and while i take bosses around 1 to 3 minutes, it is still fair gameplay lol, and once they launch pvp i wont even go near it, because them crack builds around there, there is a bleed build which make you do 20k damage suddenly if you proc it right for warrior lol, basically they might launch pvp in 2-3 months and i will probably only enter it in a year where i know shit is balanced.

But it is very chill game, made me really chill playing and getting out of the pvp scenario 24/7 like i did before, game is out almost 2 weeks and got almost 300 hours on it.

But once a real mmorpg open world pvp comes|| (not aion2, not CO, but will still play either for fun and back to farever then)|| out i go there for sure, so since such mmorpg will only come in between 2028-2032 i am stuck with farever + tibia, since aoc if there is a slight chance of comeback we talking alpha 3 around 2028 or riot mmo which i expect also be open world pvp since they where heavy interested in aoc, which i expect late 2028 some announcement if hope is on our side maybe a beta and launch around mid 2030., but still anything in between those dates. late of the latest 2032 for launch.

I think the main challenge won’t be assembling a team — with enough funding, that problem is solvable. There are a lot of layoffs in game development right now, and I also think Ashes is genuinely an interesting project that many strong specialists would love to work on.

The biggest pain point, though, is that all of this is someone else’s codebase, and we’d have to spend a huge amount of time understanding it... And without the original developers, that’s going to be a major problem.

or well organized lines of code. If they are hiring people that are experienced it wouldnt be that bad to figure out a project that isnt that far developed. They only had about 1-2 years of code within the UE5 systems that they cycled through with balances. The systems outside the networking side werent that complex to figure out. AI is gonna make assumptions based off the average information fed to it and it will probably just leave out important things if youre trying to leave it to AI to read and explain.

i know how blackmail works, i dont know how caramanis and dawson got any ounce of authority in intrepid/aoc. Steven must've waged something to they have it and it is that "something" is most likely** legit** and i am just saying court won't **disregard **that from caramanis and dawson IF they **invested money **in aoc, in the eyes of justice they will or should get what they are due back, even if they lose **control **of everything.

Caramanis and Dawson went personal on this, so it aint gonna be something they did to target a "whale" a.k.a steven from its game he was building.
They talked to each other and they had mutual agreements in investments and what to trade for in equal equivalency which both parties agree upon.

Now what it is still in the dark to me where things derrailed.
But what is being in court is nothing about that, caramanis and dawson want the company and do whatever they want with it, and steven just wants to pay his emploeyees and try getting company back in the midst of it.

By the looks of it caramanis and dawson invested around 10s of millions and within 10 years still did not get even 1 cent of money back from it.
So i can **understand **the hostile take over.

But fortunately they were dumb enough to not pay the employees and that is a crime.

This case would be pretty much simple if... dawson and caramanis had spare change (around 50 million) and paid what employees are due, after that court would not see any reasoning to continue it and they would just left off with the game lol.

But it was good they were dumb enough to just take and go, because now steven can battle it out on getting what is due for employees and in the midst of all get company back with caramanis and dawson not having any ounce of control over it from what they got from shares or equity of the company.

But they still will have shares... that won't go out in thin air, they just wont have a say in ANYTHING on game or company... thats how I see.
I am just saying court probably won't really remove their "shares" from them and they will still be able to collect money from aoc if it ever comes online, and it will be a hefty amount of money at that per year/month (or whatever works), since they seems to show they have more shares then steven himself.

Anyway that is what i took from all this shenenigans so far.

you cant even, games are such compilcated things, that LLM would not know where to even begin. LLMs are usefull for explaning things in a small scale. But games are a monster in terms of complexity. Some idiots try though but it will fall in one way or another.

Well, overall you’re right, but they also made several other major mistakes/violations, if Steven is telling the truth — like intentionally bankrupting the company. And from Steven’s lawsuit, it seems that penalties comparable to the value of their shares could be imposed on them.

A few million for defaming Steven, a few dozen million in reputational and financial damages to the company, because if it’s actually proven that they intentionally bankrupted the company and illegally fired employees, then everything that happened to the company afterward stems from that — and that’s a shitload of money.

And the third thing — which in theory could cost them even more than they originally invested — is the loss of the company’s value. If they really prove it, bring Riot into court, and Riot confirms there was an offer in the range of $300–500 million, and the court accepts that, then Dawson and Caramanis are going to get absolutely destroyed in court to the point where they might have to give up everything they still own in the company and even pay extra on top of that.

And I’m not even sure how this works legal0ly, but even if they invested, say, $100 million into the company and currently own 58% of the shares, the fact that they themselves devalued the company and bankrupted it means that their 58% is probably nowhere near worth $100 million anymore.
