With the assets transferred back to intrepid TFE no longer has a case this case. Now it is a battle within Intrepid Studio. Rob and Jason will have to file a different lawsuit not under TFE. So the nevada case automatically bacame useless. If they want to pursue a legal battle they will have to file it as the board of Intrepid.

I dont care if it takes years. As long as it stays, it was the only mmo that is actually trying to push boundries. And not a carbon based copy of wow. I would love to work on aoc tbh.

It actually got the game dev in me passionate again in building games. Which has been a long time. What with all the garbage coming out. But for now, im gonna have to stick with just building my own game engine until I get a call.

Something I noticed really quick is that I was standing around A LOT just scrolling through the professions and thinking, there's so much to do, and I immediately like a lot of things, but where the hell do I start? I've never been set loose in an environment with little to no guidance like MSQ or super long cutscene tutorials.

It became something I really liked about the game because it eventually shifted into something that always gave me something to work towards.

Honestly, I miss the game purely for the constant stream of instant positive feedback in the form of rare mats.

Starting a fight with a mob, realise it ain't gonna go great for you, and extract yourself, is something I haven't seen or really been able to do in other MMO's to the degree Ashes let you.

Let's assume Steven wins the lawsuit and he gets Intrepid & AoC back. Then what? Where comes the money and the developers from? I doubt he will find any investors after all that. Even if he gets investors on board... It would take ages to reassemble a team of developers that could continue the work on AoC. How do you guys think all that will work?

I hope there is a estabilished villages, towns, cities in riot mmo, but everything outside those is dynamic and evolving. I think town evolution like node and what new world had if we leave it at player agency it is too much annoying.

Unless when we try to take out the mayor its like 1 click only, and fast. ofc it will have a cooldown... but it needs to be one click and fast.

#

or maybe some system of hybrid comando, where at first npcs are the ones who rules cities and after some time players can have a bit of agency after lots of rep+ they got with the npc or so, doing missions, tasks, quests ,etc.
But right from the start annoying as hell.
Its cool more later, but beginning aint it, aoc node system got pretty annoying with these dumb guilds thinking they are some shit running stuff.

You can’t roll back the copies that have already been sold. At the very least, they could grant access to those who already purchased the game and temporarily stop selling new copies. But this is an MMORPG, and people want to play with their friends — if someone’s friend can’t buy the game and join them, that’s a problem.

I agree that RMT in an alpha hurts the gameplay, but at the same time it gives developers insight into how to fight it by release. In any case, in a proper MMO where developers don’t decide to sell gold or items themselves, this will always be an ongoing war. There will always be people trying to break the system, and a security team trying to stop them.

With Ashes’ model, the stronger the enforcement, the higher the price of in-game currency becomes — and the more people will try to exploit the system for their own benefit.****

# hazy pine You can’t roll back the copies that have already been sold. At the very least, t...

I’m not disagreeing with the fact that RMTs will ruin a game, it happened in almost all MMOs, the problem is that it was happening during development. Breaking the game during an alpha needs to happen so that the developers know where to fix it, however when you are still building the world and dealing with breaks, you stretch your folks really thin. I’m wondering if maybe going back and only allowing the testers prior to the Steam release would be the preferred method.

Review each on a case by case basis, it’d be slow but at the very least, you’d be able to allow testers and not some new account coming on strictly for RMT

Unfortunately, yes — we’re just sitting and watching. It still feels crazy to me that a successful and promising project ended up in this situation. Even in alpha, it’s the best MMO I’ve ever played. And when I start thinking ā€œwhat ifā€ and ā€œwhat whenā€¦ā€, it gets downright depressing… my red-haired bard-fighter named Kvothe is sitting there, crying while waiting for Ashes

#

And by the way, if you like the world of Ashes, you can read The Kingkiller Chronicle for now — it’s my ā€œAshesā€ of the fantasy book world. It gives you literally the same feeling, when you read something and then for a year you can’t pick up any other books because everything else just feels off.
It’s basically that same ā€œnothing else compares anymoreā€ feeling. The Kingkiller Chronicle

There’s a lot of people that thoroughly enjoyed it, everybody had their own reasons for playing it and aspects that they enjoyed. I knew people that loved being a mayor and running a node, I knew people that loved running caravans or diving into POIs or gathering or processing, even people that loved the PVE and PVP combat. There was something for everybody. Personally, I liked having Guild events each week, we would have massive Crafting events where someone would pop buffs and construct amazing armor and weapons for people. I loved crafting for that very reason, I got to see what sort of weapons I was crafting for people.

Yeah, that’s exactly where Ashes shines… everyone had their own thing to do.

For example, I never hauled packs — except for guild runs in our group, it was kind of bad etiquette šŸ˜„ — and unfortunately I never got around to doing ship combat or building a ship either. We were more focused on market trading and tailoring.

Even within a 5-man group, we basically specialized: one crafter per profession, while the rest handled trading, transporting resources, monitoring prices, and finding buyers. And still, we made a lot of gold, geared up really well, and were consistently taking down Tummok for weeks in a row…

I really believe in Ashes in this situation, and that development will continue for one simple reason: it was a great game. And it had a strong response — things like that don’t just disappear. The market will decide.

The legal case will end, an investor will be found, and the game is already around 60% done…

And in the worst-case scenario, I hope it still becomes an example for the industry that games like this are needed.

It is a 1 time quest.
The quest item mentions "Midnight"

2 pre-cusor quests begins in Lionshold.

  • Horns of Betrayal
    And a hidden quest
  • Collection of King Jarrak's Law

And another quest in Oakenbane Cemetery

  • The Sword of Tri Sanctus

This tells you the 3 moons must align.

At midnight (in-game) every time the 3 moons were in the right order, you can start this quest if you had done these pre-cursor quests.

The item description in Ashes Codex for the ring I believe also talks about midnight.

Agreed its a long ways from possibility but the money isn't the priority or issue. It's the legal rights and community support. Then the teams commitment to rebuild. If it is true that this is all a malicious fabrication then a countersuit should be in progress as well. That will surely help with the funding of the game, as all those devs expertise, lost dev time on the project trashing timelines, reputation in the industry that may affect rehiring, any subsequent contracts that may have defaulted, and public reputation (goodwill) all hold massive value to the company, plus there should be punitive costs incurred as well. All that may very well combine to be many times that value of the suit against Intrepid depending on how it all shakes out.

As things are right now if everything the board did to take control of the company is within the law, they have all the responsibilities in their hands to pay every single cent. Steven resigned and technically no longer apart of the company and has very small shares left, so I don't know what else can he do.
However if that turns out to be illegal, Steven would need to pay the developers. That is if he even has any money to pay them. Can he even brings his old team back? The trust between them has been broke beyond redemption. Are there even anyone willing to inject investment or buy the IP to salvage what's left of it. Engagement should’ve came from completing the systems they currently had, classes, races, character creation, freeholds, artisan. Iterations of gear, level cap, dungeon mechanics, economy mechanics alone would’ve held retention. Reducing half the headcount and becoming a remote space that is able to track performance metrics seems like a solid move as well. Headcount reduction happens all the time even at larger scales it’s a necessary part of every industry. ā€œStephenous is just a pawn. A loud one. Useful for distraction. While Dawson tightens his grip on every deal, every ledger, every whispered contract.ā€

Quest Objectives Updated
Investigate Stephenous’ ā€œcorruption broadcastsā€ (0/3 sources found)
Trace Dawson’s influence through trade routes (0/5 nodes uncovered)
Decide who to confront:
The loud liar (Stephenous)
The silent manipulator (Dawson)
Or neither… and exploit both

The peasant looks at you one last time.

ā€œWe don’t need a hero.ā€

ā€œWe need someone who understands which kind of monster destroys a world faster.ā€

A young adventurer approaches later that night.

His skin tanned from the desert sun and glowing brightly from the blessings of the Djinni. Transparent robes cover his torso and legs as a defense against sandstorms.

He speaks softly:
"I am a priest of worship. Chosen by the followers of Toren legends. I've heard of malicious intent against the man who wears sandals."
He pauses to drink some water before continuing. "I have been sent with support of the Gods to reveal the true intentions of both mortal coils bound to this world. The priest kneels beside the fire as the desert winds howl through the weathered stone roads of New Aela.

Above the settlement, the night sky stretches endlessly.

The skybox is breathtaking.

Ancient constellations shimmer overhead, brighter than any torchlight. Some resemble warriors. Others serpents. One appears to hold a sword pointed toward the southern horizon.

Beyond the walls of New Aela, deep within the jungles of the Jundark, enormous caverns pulse faintly with green light.

Something ancient waits there.

Something awake.

The disgruntled peasant steps forward once more, carrying an ancient weapon wrapped in faded cloth.

With trembling hands, he unveils it.

A radiant blade hums softly beneath the stars.

Item Received: The Sword of a Thousand Truths

Runes crawl across the steel as though the blade itself despises deception.

The peasant carefully hands the sword to the priest.

ā€œTake itā€¦ā€

ā€œIf Stephenous can still be saved, this blade will reveal what remains of him.ā€

The priest accepts the weapon.

For a brief moment, every constellation above New Aela glows brighter.

Then suddenly—

A scream echoes from the outer gate.

ā€œSeven save us!ā€

Villagers scatter as distant horns bellow from the jungle roads.

The peasant turns pale.

ā€œBe warnedā€¦ā€

ā€œThere are old legends buried beneath the Jundark.ā€

He points toward the distant caverns.

ā€œA Hydra.ā€

ā€œCut off one serpent’s head… and another rises in its place.ā€

The campfire flickers violently.

ā€œStephenous may be loud. Dawson may be cunning. But neither may truly be the head.ā€

The priest closes his eyes.

ā€œThen this tribunal shall reveal the truth.ā€

He turns toward the jungle horizon.

ā€œThe Snake Counsel and Stephenous the Sandaled are scheduled for judgment within the Serpent Pit itself.ā€

A low rumble echoes from the jungle depths.

The stars above seem almost to shift position.

Watching.

Settle as in they lose?

No, settlements usually are a neutral agreement.

I would think they are just trying to find the correct person(s) to look at the company without risking the financial evaluation... the part that is important

  • We want to see how the company debt was handled, but they are trying to find a way to say there is no reason.

It could be deflection and pointing to other issues, it could be from their own opinions, and many other things.

I, personally, believe that if you buy literally anything on Kickstarter for any amount of money you should consider it gone forever, and in saying that I think this particular comment is correct. It's not that you won't do it EVER, there might be a project you see on Kick that REALLY draws your attention and you want to donate to it.

But this time, it won't be $700. That's how I understood it, and agree.

oh dont worry, you arent alone, many of us pointed out the bad actors for years, and got shit on constantly everytime we brought them up. people are to weak to call things like they are, even protected behind a screen. but now no one can deny what was going on, its a small form of vindication even at the price EVERYONE had to pay for it. some of the largest voices and biggest "streamers" everyone backed were some of the ones who were trying to make it fail the most

Tbh, even with the court win, the massive overspending on things like doordash, food, and a personal chef for the building, et cetara.. were all a bit much considering there was yet no real revenue in sight to start paying back the loans and such.

So I can see why they wanted to try and liquidate the company and pull the rug on them.

It's gonna be awkward too trying to find new investors for the game after this as well, because likely Steven and Co. are not gonna have a major amount of money once all these court proceedings are done.

Hope they can pull it off, this game was a ton of fun and I loved the summoner concept.

seriously if the project goes forward we have to consider a big part of the original team will simply be gone.

people had to find new jobs, and the breakup wasn't an easy one, so some wont be too eager to come back.

I could see part of the original team still come back, but clearly not all.

New team picking up existing assets and code from scratch is gonna take some time. Maybe 6 months to a year to bring a new team up to speed and resume development.

That's once the legal disputes are settled. Realistically, the best case scenario would be an established company / team buying into the project.

You are reinforcing what I said myself. I backed it on kickstarter. I hadn't backed anything before ashes, and I learned that I should not have done that. That is the lesson. Its not because i cant live without that money, its because i like spending money on things i actually benefit from, i didnt realize how unlikely it was for the game to come out cause i got caught in the hype. I am not going to gamble on games again, others can feel free to do so. That being said, if I had known Steven was into multilevel marketing before I purchased kickstarter, I would have held off based on multiple principles, but I was ignorant. But apart from early involvement in the forums, and limited early play testing, this is the most interaction I have had with the community so far, I was never sabatoging the game as I was accused of, I was waiting as I didn't want to spoil the game too much before full release. I bought the 700 not to play test but for the lifetime sub.

Not a day goes by without a memory of:

  • Gambling grass simulator. I could cut it for hours under all the buffs and elxs just to loot 3-5 leg/purple pieces. Pure bliss with a good podcast on in the background.
  • Market monitoring - started my day checking mail and appreciating all the money from sales, after that - a lap around the map, searching for good deals. I felt so lucky if I could find a good price or a needed ingredient 🄹
  • Risky crate runs. I swear to god, no in-game activity in my life ever gave me this edge when you have to dodge 100 feral lizards on your path + 3 god forsaken rogue gnomes waiting in the bushes near the town. The relief I felt when I sold the create! It really inspired to study all the routes and check the situation in different zones in chat.
  • Exchanging recipes and tips with guild members. Everyone was eager to pitch in and help others.
  • Farming resources for the city rep. The mountain near Joeva went fcng BALD each time citizens needed hemlock or larch for them šŸ’€ I became Noble right before the end...
  • Searching for tier-3 tree in the North - I spent literally 8-10 hours checking every mountain pass and slope to find them and only managed to spot it 2 times, but I felt like a Siberian geologist discovering one of a kind mine after a months of traversing the wilderness. Accidentally it became my last big adventure before the servers shut down.

It was my first MMO and I miss it so much 🄹

I miss having a game my wife and I both really loved to play together. Valheim is close for us, but Ashes hit way harder.

I miss randomly healing people when they were dying next to me, or newbs on the road getting eaten by birds and mountain lions.

And giving newbs who were nice and in their first character my bank trash and a few gold and some bags and how wonderful that felt to be able to do for someone just starting.

And healing mounts before mounts had passive regen.

And solo grinding as a bard after level 20. I rolled with Greatsword/Longbow and the finishers fucking destroyed mobs. Never got a proper spellbook but was looking forward to that for AoE. The bard kit is soooo goooood.

Also loved the passive income of having my wife's character constantly fishing. She got like 7 levels from fish XP and turn ins and made us so much gold.

And making my own shit as a tailor, and hooking nice people up with bags and shirts.

And farming mats. Podcasts and herbalism/hunting runs were glorious.

And logging in right after a reset to gobble up the gathering node respawns

Genuinely so much of it felt great, could go on forever.

My boyfriend and I picked up the game and we ended up running into this player who didn't even know how crate mules worked. They were getting like, 25 silver per run and thinking that was hot shit, haha 🤣

We ended up doing our first ever gold run on mules and donated 1 gold each to the dude. He ended up maxing his level before us and joining a popular guild before the shutdown!

Haha I legitimately never did a crate run until I was level 20, and only then because my town needed supplies to upgrade a building....and I only ever did one haha. I made my money from fishing and gathering and selling my wares. I almost never left the Vhalgadim node unless people needed help.

But I agree that helping new people was one of the best feelings in the game and is sorely missed.

ebon comet
# oak bobcat Ah yes watching the babies grow ha ha, I definitely loved that. Randoms thinking...

Even though I had been playing longer, I took the slow road to level so I would help these people when they were around level 10 and then I'd watch them on my friends list blast past me in levels haha. It was a great feeling to have helped inspire them in the early stages, and then I appeared to have been building an army of loyal friends who were better geared and further along than me that I could eventually ask for help. I think the community building aspect is one of the best parts of this experience.

Then you got like 2 boats in the group and you go out to deep sea fish for $$$ since all the pvp players are busy bullying the crate runners once they hit 25 (cause theyre cowards) and you get uncontested fishing for like 3 days and make 100s more gold with a large group

# burnt matrix The play was to do cross map runs while the crate killers were still leveling (s...

Heh yeah I heard that was the meta, but I never really chased metas or wanted to run crates or build a boat. I'm a slow progress enjoyer, and I was a guildless duo with my wife who has less time to play games but also doesn't want me to out level her too much. I'd have her character fish in town while I grinded commissions and farming. Or I'd grind one star mobs by a river while she fished and feed her half my XP. Slower, but fit my hermit-like play style more and we made about 20-50ish gold per day depending on luck. Plenty for me to gear us both up and keep my crafting levels increasing, especially since I spent more days at each level than the crab grinders.

I always wanted to go on a boat adventure eventually, just to see what it was like. But such is the life of a hermit haha. Hard to leave my mountain home.

# ebon comet Haha I legitimately never did a crate run until I was level 20, and only then be...

I actually earned a start money for my profs and gained A LOT on top of it on crates) I was one of the first on our server who discovered long paths to the North which were like 80% safe and ran them myself + became a guide for my guild) You could get the best money storing 12-15 crates in the harbor nearby the town that was about to evolve and than swiftly sell all of them at once before others could finish their trips and drop the price. Also, I only did blue+ crates since I had low risk routes)

Several times I spotted players who were stranded in the middle of the journey - they made it through the 99% safe part but couldn't find the road between the mobs further. And they also didn't want to turn around since they already spent like 20-30 mins to reach this spot. I showed them the way and had really cute conversations, really miss that part 🄹 They were so scared in the beginning that I might take their crates and so relieved after we reached the town)

Also, sometimes people got disconnected right in the middle of the road due to server issues, leaving their crates on the ground and I guarded them till their return. They were so happy since they didn't believe their crates will still be there on the busiest road of the continent šŸ˜‚
