downsize for the good -scrapped 2nd continent already is not needed. give us multiple citizenship for lower pop to maintain cities and full access to crafting stations, scrap 2nd class etc., fix sieges and some corruption exploit, if die corrupted only respawn farthest town naked, fix Mount and Mule flagging correctly when players flagged for PVP, reduce powercreep of gear by 300%, make one Server per Region or just one Server at all, scrap abo modell and start selling cosmetics to fund server cost, outsource all possible to cheaper asian devs, recover and enjoy and let us play and have fun.

AAC is really good, so far since aoc took a dump I’m enjoying it more. The fishing is way better, combat is better, graphics are better. Every event has 1-2 raids on each faction, no Hiram gear, still Freed gold trader, no alts, what more could you ask for?

Never tried arch rage? Never even heard of it.

I liked ESO for the dungeons and some pvp aspects but overall meh especially with the micro transactions.

BDO had great addiciting combat but that’s about it. Just swiping at the adds all day and trading on market.

WOW is the only feature complete. Out of everything but meh PvP but atleast you can earn most everything in game.

Really enjoyed guild wars 2 think that’s my favorite go to but bosses and raids etc are meh to me.

Final fantasy 14 is great but for some reason I don’t enjoy eastern made games as much as western.

Lost ark was great combat wise but was microtransaction hell.

I’m just not totally feeling any specific mmo.

Ashes made me interested because it was advertised as a sandbox / mmo

First of all, as a longterm player of Ultima Online and backer of Shroud of the Avatar (Richard Garriot's "spiritual successor" to Ultima Online), the sole reasons why that game failed is because you were able to buy the most premier part of the game's content which was housing before hand and most importantly, the game was hot dookie garbage. Looked like crap, played like crap, and designed like crap. He also lost creative control to his producers down the road who were trying to get it out early, but nonetheless it was just a bad game.

Whether or not this was mismanagement or ignorance or whatever is one issue. But I think most reasonable people that have followed this game's progress at least over the last year can really come to the conclusion that the game really started to look like a game, a good one, that had potential to release in a well received state.

The bones were there, the combat was good, the systems in place were finally looking better. Everything was shaping up to actually becoming a decently good game. That doesn't happen by trying to scam an audience out of money. That happens because you finally got a team together that is cohesive and had skill and dedicated alot of time into building something good.

The first 5 years was bad, no visible progress, not much to look forward to, lots of weird decisions but as a new studio with a ceo that had no experience in the game development space, I don't really think that's unreasonable to think possible.

But the last 2 years, one year specifically, you actually started to see things get built pretty quickly. Sure, they came out bugged majority of the time, but they came out and eventually started getting polished.

In another full year of development, I could have seen this game actually reach a point where it could be getting ready for a proper release.

I don't know everything going on with steven and the situation but I'll at least wait to pass judgement until I see more. People are quick to rush to conclusions and pass judgement because a fun game they paid for and have been playing is dead atm. Which is a totally fair criticism by the way.

Calling this game as a scam though, kinda a stupid argument. The game was already pulling people away from AAA titles before it was even released. That doesn't happen unless a game is starting to actually get good (not a scam). Call it what it is, mismanagement, incompetence, ignorance, inexperience, whatever your flavor.

Not going to fault anyone asking for a refund though, as you paid for something you are currently not getting.

I already thought it was weird to do the steam release a couple of days before most of their company goes on a holday break, who does that why not do it after it to have full focus on ur release, than it was weird when they came back there were so little posts, just some mob resets like it was in maintenance mode, but it all makes sense when you understand this was already known to happen before steam release, no way after 8 years of work you spend a couple of weeks to decide something like this. Even if they lost money working on it, it is still a scam in trying to get some of that money back before abandoning ship.

Only problem with your statement is back in the day games didn't cost an arm and a leg to make and they also didn't take years to produce as putting together old games was much easier. At this point, I feel like it is more likely that the discord server will eventually be suddenly and unceremoniously shuttered. I hope that isn't the case, because I do think there is value in keeping it as a way for any potential new plans or announcements to be conveyed to people. Yes, development is effectively halted for now and the entire team seems to be gone (or in the process of being gone) but the current code base still exists and the (alleged) new owners could very well carry out the supposed leaked plan to hand off the project as it stands to a low-cost dev team in another country and have them finish it in an attempt to recoup their investment. Will that actually happen? There's really no way to know at the moment, but it is within the realm of possibilities. That said, there is a high likelihood that such a revamp would mean that if the game ever does release, all the prior promises like no P2W would be completely out the window.

Long story short, they did not have even 10% of funds needed to develop anything close to what was promised. Money are spent, result is something. Even that something (I personally enjoyed playing) is going down the drain. It's not clear how it can be best outcome for any investor, but they probably decided it's not possible to salvage anything. Good for them, I guess.

The level of miss information and intellectual shortcuts is absolutely insane.

All this chain reaction comes from 2 confirmed resignations, some rumors and few streamers crying for attention talking about a leaked letter advertising a complete server shutdown by yesterday. Which apparently is false.

We don't know about the real layoffs, we don't know about the studio closing, we don't know about the future of this game. Just be patient and show some respect for the people who probably poured their very soul into this project. The project doesn't orbit only around 1 or 2 individuals with a massive ego.

And calling that a scam, please, try to gather the remaining brain cells you have. You don't work 9 years on a project for a scam. There is more efficient ways to steal money than this.
Is it a bad timing, yes. But, even if the game launched, for real, and then crash, there is no legally binding contracts forcing anyone refunding kickstarter's participants. Only a "promise" from someone who most certainly get hover his head.

What we can **evaluate **is the actual financial viability of the project.

  • 3.5M in kickstart, around 200K, may be 300K, units sold. That's between 80M and 120M in revenue.
  • In-game transaction are too shady at the moment to be taken into account
  • 200+ peoples team, it's at least 50M / year in payrolls only
  • Diverse costs: eventual leases, office (the building + all the equipment), servers cost, etc.
    The project is simply not financially viable in its current state. Some things needs to be rethink.

So, until we have more information, and if you liked the game, just continue playing. Show the persons who will take the next decisions that the project is worth saving. And please, think about everyone who worked on the game, not only the top management. Their baby is about to die and we are not even trying to help them.

That person was a bit of a obnoxious weirdo coming out of high school (from a younger class that graduated later) so them working at intrepid checks out. After much effort, I have some news for everyone based on the information I've gathered.

The game isn't shutting down! Steven and his despicable team are the ones giving off that vibe!!!

The reason: Due to Steven's utopian ambitions, a different name is being put in charge of the game. Steven, unable to accept this, is doing his utmost to cause the community to disintegrate, leaving us in limbo!

Ashes of Creation may no longer run on Steven's promises; one or more revenue models could be added to the game, which could affect its spirit, yes!! But! The game isn't shutting down, Steven and his team, and the company he founded is bankrupt due to lack of funds, and the game has been sold to other hands by those with money. The reason for the lack of explanation is Steven's actions.

Personally, I'm a player who understands that these kinds of things aren't done for anyone's sake! Of course, building a revenue model is essential for sustainability; that's what I questioned first! Mass layoffs and concrete plans to move development to low-cost countries tell a very different story.

Yes, it’s true that Steven was a major part of the problem, and that his “dreams” were far too ambitious for what the company could realistically sustain financially. That part isn’t in dispute. And yes, you’re trying to say that the game will somehow continue.

But the fact is: the game as it exists today is effectively dead because of this.
The damage is already done, and it’s not something that can simply be repaired by changing leadership or adding a revenue model.

From an economic standpoint, the only thing that still makes sense at this point is to sell off the assets and the code separately to the highest bidders. Anything else is wishful thinking.

Whether the servers technically stay online or not is beside the point. The trust is gone, the vision is broken, and the project has lost what made it viable in the first place.

I know its all my own speculation but what i think what kinda happened is following:

Steven mismanaged and lied about that "board" situation happening to getting more funds.
Board got more to say and then later pushed for the steam release (since one dev leak apparently said that they dont wanted to do the steam release but got pushed into it after the compromise with the few devs isntead of 50 something beeing fired situation).
After the payout delay time from steam was over (30 Days ~) the money came in and was kinda secured then the board pushed hard to let a majority of the current devs go in favor of outsourcing it to philipines cheaper studios ai studios ~ maybe even get into some more p2w, p2progress or shop stuff who knows really... Steven then resigned, lead devs followed (i dont know why and how at all at this point this is just without words or could be just what many people here state (scam) we simply dont know the full story yet who knows what discussions they had to end it like that) and then the said board followed up to send the WARN act to be on the safe side still having the money from the steam sales to recoup their investment as much as possible. ~ and now we have dead silence since no one can legally talk. Im just wondering why there is not much of any leak of information at this point with 200+ people working on it. ~
