I will get a refund on Steam for it, going to get my auntie to write my ticket for me and get it through the Valve's EU legal department again. Not the first time I've had to refund a game where the development team has ended up embroiled in a lot of legal stuff internally (Myth of Empires being another example when they ended up with lawsuits with Snail Games despite 100s of hours playtime, in the end Steam refunded all monies, both the base game and all microtransactions).

I do agree they would use the alpha 2 and steam as "launching the game", but it could be argued against that as it was a development build it was not the finished product that was advertised at the point of sale (crowd funding phase). But it's a question of if this would even go to a court and how the US legal system would handle this sort of thing. In any case, the game will not be continuing, even if the remainder re-hired, the damage has been done to this game. I saw this coming when month after month after month they kept showcasing "cosmetics" which was really just concept art. They kept promising more and more innovative features to the point where nothing would have lived up to the hype. I hoped for the best but knew this was going to happen sooner or later. It was fun while it lasted, but I really want my $500 package refunded since the promised services can no longer be rendered.. this is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen as they got millions funded from backers not just on Kickstarter, but in the years following on their website by selling alpha and beta access, as well as the cosmetics. The developers of MMOs will never learn to stop being so damned ambitious and trying to reinvent the wheel instead of pushing out a great base game to get a foundation and then innovating moving forward. That's how you really keep an audience and a game world alive.

This is pretty much my take on everything. I never expect any MMO that comes out these days to last more than like a year at best. Not only is the majority of the MMO community way too locked in on FFXIV, OSRS, WoW, ESO, or GW2, but the people who aren't locked in on those games are generally old heads who don't know that hardcore PvP mega grind MMOs aren't going to make any money. So if those types of games come out they'll either be dead in a year or have like 100 players.

I mean, i do feel kind of cheated a little, having put a huge amount of support to this game buying those exclusive skins every month because I believed in the project. But im just one guy right.

This whole situation is screwed up. Being laid off in CA is not a great situation to find yourself in and I really feel for the devs here.

Reading the anger in this discord I am probably in the minority opinion here, I have followed this project since I noticed it in alpha1. I am holding on to the tiny hope that a compromise will be reached between steven and the COO.

I think best possible solution for this game is to go back to a weekend or once a month testing model. At the snails pace development we have seen since alpha2 became accessible, I think that running servers 24/7 without a subscription or cash shop income stream is a blunder and expense that cant be maintained.

But like I said, thats just a long shot hope, a less than 1% chance of things happening.

Blizzard already had successful releases before WoW, an IP that had a rabid fanbase, the developers themselves among this fanbase. It took Blizzard 5 years to release WoW to the public. Existing IP helps with hype but only thing that matters is money. New World had nearly 1m concurrent players with a fresh IP but flopped due to incompetence. It didn’t die until 4-5 years later once the money stopped flowing in, even though it was finally going a good direction.

The money is all that matters but companies with the money have a graveyard of MMOs to not take risks. WoW doesn’t have any competition so Blizzard doesn’t need to feel bothered to make a WoW 2 with an upgraded modern day engine.
