Arenas are meant to be instanced. They explained that they won't be working on their plans for instancing tech until the milestone after the archetype audit, when they also plan to introduce augments, class addition, and level increase. So going to be a while before you see that. Especially since any time a thing is announced as "next milestone after this one" means they will not hit it based on their past performance in hitting goals.

this is basically the EVE Online system - you've got high security space (you can pvp people there but the NPC factions show up and nuke you, unavoidable loss of your ship), low security space (you can pvp people anywhere except directly by stations, where weapons mounted on the stations wil nuke you) and no-security space, aka "null security", where everything is player-driven, and players may hold sovereignty.

I honestly don't know how aoc is going to get away with not doing this at this point, because there are massive holes in the current settlement system that aren't going to be solved without reconsidering them at a fundamental level.

I don't think they are pulling 200 people in. 😉 When you have an influx of botters and RMTrs and it is not jumped on right away and gets crazy out of control, it will take some digging to follow the chain of interactions to flush out the RMTrs and 'try' to remove a lot of the exploited items to try to stablize the game and economy. Not even sure the latter can be done at this point

Not supposedly they do have over 200 people who get full coverage for healthcare for their whole family. Not everyone on the team would be equipped to tackle RMT/botting though.

@tulip mica oh absolutely it will but it's the developers job to have all of the backend stuff in place to squash that. They promised long ago that they actively developed tools to combat RMT/botting. My opinion is that they didn't think that people would do it this much in an Alpha which was a huge mistake.

I'd suspect that once they've gotten a handle on the botting/RMT there will be a wipe. No one has stated that but if they want more people to test that's one of the only ways to continue. Along with a lot of other fixes which is why I suggest waiting 3-6 months again.

Exactly and if anyone has followed Steven's stance on RMT, they would know he is planning on doing it differently than other games that just ban the gold sellers where it never fixes the issue. He plans on using the botters/sellers to honey pot those buying and cut off the demand so botter numbers reduce. He will handle both but anyone surprised for being banned for repeatedly dealing with RMTrs should invest more time in understanding the intentions of the Dev when it comes to handling RMT. Edit: Now this said, I have NO clue why the measures he has in place wasn't spitting out warnings on the duping/botting/RMT issue well before it appears he decided to start acting. only if there is a nearby node that is also independent that it can vassalise. if there is no node available it stays below village. having a vassal is the trigger for a node to become a village. it can only become a town if there is more than 2 vassals. it's why the system is borked right now.

Exactly my point. BDO is not even near what Ashes is aiming for so why bother adding mechanics that go against the very spirit of the game which is social interaction? Systems like that have no room in a game like Ashes and it is one of the reasons I dislike most MMOs nowadays. They turned MMO into Solo Player with Rare Social Interactions. RMT and bots is part of it unfortunately and likely a risk we all accepted when decided to play Ashes. I'm sure there are better alternatives and Intrpid is working on it.

I tried to help Korrin grow but its buggy and commissions do not work. I tried to get into crafting but its not something I have the time for and its just too damn expensive. I spent a lot of time gathering lumber to make gold but I fail to see the point in making money to buy gear to pvp no one.

alpha 1 was pretty bare bones compared to the current alpha 2 phase 3. We did have 50v50 and 150v150 siege tests that went pretty smoothly during that phase but they were instanced which I think the server tech kind of needs to work well. Content wise though we didn't have caravans back then and while we had a "node" it wasn't fleshed out at all like it is right now. We had a raid and that was about it. Currently a lot more has been added in and overall functionally the game is handling better - people forget the windmill boss and the weeks of server improvements before we could even reliably play alpha 1.

the problem isn't that there is "nothing new" added in - its that the current game loops are too punishing and have very little reward, no one is participating in them because they've been overtuned for this test to the point that no one wants to risk anything. I discuss this pretty in depth in #1462548277080621240 they could pretty easily tweak a few things like corruption, mules, and caravans to get some good end game loops going.

I think that your choice can help a lot of other people who share the same discontent you do about the process. As I have said time and time again, this journey will not be for everyone. There is a lot of complexity that goes into game development, take that complexity and multiply it by 10 when making an MMO... even more so when making one like Ashes. There will be a time when we start to spend money on Marketing and Advertising, when we are ready for players and not “testers”. Now is not yet that time, and I have been upfront about that in nearly every update stream monthly

My dude this is a PVP-focused MMO built off of the inspiration from other PVP-focused MMOs, all of which went the exact same way of dying because their appeal was too niche to the point they weren't financially viable and ended up with horrible examples of P2W and dev-sanctioned RMT. If Ashes wants to avoid dying, then it needs to acknowledge what it is and what it's built off, and do something to not end up dying in the same way.
