Just inventories, leave the levels alone. It won’t cure the botting issue, but it will put a dent in the inventories they had built up and reduce the longevity of some of their accounts since they’ll retain the adventure XP they gained gathering/crafting.

It also removes gains made in bad faith and prevents a scenario of “pre/post patch” gear being the meta.

This 100%. All of us are more than happy to see balancing changes for new phases. You just cannot do them mid-phase and expect to see anything but a dead phase. This does not give you good data whatsoever. Fix exploits, and leave phases to run as they will without major changes to economy. Only then you can get good data on how progression feels and whether you need to buff or nerf certain things the next phase.

The priority system of what gets handled when; this has been the excuse on why certain things haven't been fixed. It creates a disparity for players. In my mind, changes like this are something to be done in preparation for the next phase or extremely early in a phase. Changes like fixing Harbinger, vendor pricing for consumables, and things that enable players would be more the focus for mid-phase changes, no? Things that improve the quality of life of the player rather than hinder.

There is definitely imbalance between Food/Elixirs/Buffs comparatively to Clothing if this change was somehow related to that.
I'm sure the player base would prefer buffing clothes instead of a nerf to non-clothes bonuses.

Rating is already very little value in gathering/processing, nerfing makes this feel even worse. A clothing buff would go towards fixing both these.
In regards to how it affects crafting... Epic+ items are still too easily obtained for how heavy they are weighted in the crafting system, nerf this instead.

What I would give to understand what is going on inside that company, to be a fly on the wall, to investigate and audit things. I was an auditor in a previous life. I bet you I would spot so many process flaws and lack of controls in place just in their development process. I am assuming now, that everytime a new patch is rolled out, it just simply deletes anything that was fixed during the previous patches, and that if someone does not have a working list of everything that was fixed previously, bugs, exploits, and other things will just continually re-appear because someone is not double checking that these fixes were re-applied to the code. Is it a system limitation? Or is it a human error problem? Either way, it needs to be fixed and controls needs to be put in place so that these things stop happening so frequently, and hopefully, as close to never as possible.

While that is very true, this was in the middle of a phase when most of the casual player base was more or less likely to start crafting (basing it off the casuals in my guild's time line, could be inaccurate). These changes should have been done post phase, or even at the end of the phase.

The issue isn't that they're balancing - it's how and when they're doing it. A 43-50% total power loss mid-phase, right when casual players are hitting their crafting goals, isn't iterative balancing. That's a fundamental system overhaul. This kind of massive change should come at phase transitions when everyone expects a reset, not in the middle when people have invested weeks into builds that just got cut in half. Alpha testing should involve tweaks and adjustments - 5-10% nerfs, maybe 15-20% on outliers. Not compounding 40% item nerfs with 67% boon nerfs that result in losing half your character power overnight. That's not testing balance, that's testing player tolerance for having their time invalidated. If they thought these systems were this broken, they should have either fixed them before the phase started or waited until the phase transition. Iterative testing: "Let's reduce this by 10-15% and see how it affects the meta" vs whats happened here: "Lets gut 50% of player quality power with zero warning mid-phase"

The "it's alpha" defense doesn't mean developers should disregard when and how they implement changes. Even in testing, there are better and worse ways to gather data. Making sweeping changes midphase when players are deep into crafting progression doesn't give you clean data, does it? it gives you chaos and frustration. If Intrepid needs to test these massive changes, that's what phase wipes are for. That's literally the entire point of having phases. Everyone goes in knowing their progress resets, and massive system changes happen on a clean slate. "Go play a fully released game" is such a tired argument. We're here because we want to test and provide feedback. But feedback goes both ways, and the feedback here is that implementing 50% power cuts midphase is poor testing methodology that invalidates weeks of player time for no good reason. Alpha testing works best when there's mutual respect between devs and testers, which happened here when Steven made the decision to cut the nerfs within 1hr.

1. "What makes 50% bad while 10-15% is ok?"
   Scale and timing. A 10-15% nerf mid-phase lets players adapt their builds without invalidating their entire progression. A 50% cut makes weeks of effort, gathering, and their own time essentially worthless. If you're going to cut power in half, do it at a phase reset when everyone expects it.
2. "All data is useful, especially big changes"
   Sure, but clean data is more useful than chaotic data. When you nuke everything midphase, you're not just testing the balance change, you're also testing player frustration, economic disruption, and community morale. That's not clean experimental data, that's noise. Phase resets give you the big change data you want without the midphase chaos and can actually be received a lot better.
3. "Testing is what the company wants to test"
   Absolutely. And testers are here to provide feedback on those tests. My feedback is: this methodology sucks. You want data on a 50% power reduction? Great - test it at a phase boundary. Testing it mid-phase when casual players just hit their crafting goals doesn't give you better balance data, it just pisses off your testing community.
   Intrepid can test whatever they want. We can tell them when their testing approach is counterproductive. That's what alpha feedback is for.
