#Red-Star Chat / Matching / Hosting Public Runs at specific times of the day

Was there ever a #red-star chat room on this official discord server?

I know we have the OG Red Star matching through BSO..thank you for hosting us for years.

However, I think it would be beneficial for the official discord to have BSO's RS matching system on it or something similar. Especially for newer players who may not be aware of the extensive resources our community offers.

Additionally, simply telling people that Red Stars "should" be run on the hour, with 10, 20, or 30 minutes segments between, could help players align their scanning and runs at peak times. Such that, if you run a Public RS, try to do so on the hour (or half hour, or quarter, etc.), instead of willy nilly 😛

Also there probably is a metric to calculate when players are running RS and public RS and regularly posting or keeping an active / up to date log of peak times may help others who are looking for a full team - when not a part of an active corp - join full public runs.

And though everyone should be in an active corp, a lot of us like playing solo and running public rs'..so catering to those of us would be nice.

Running publicly is also a great way to meet other players from other teams and potentially join those team or create diplomacy partners, so I think it would be a beneficial step to making this game feel more active again - as running a public without a full team is eery and not as beneficial.

Additionally, having tags and notifications to join runs either private or public would also be good, as RS' and DRS are the most active mini-game and including it on the official discord would make the discord more active - i think.

I also believe community assets should be used for this, if possible. Accept the work of our hands and make them official, providing official assets to boost their capabilities too.

We make this game great by playing it to the fullest and inviting others to join our teams and play effectively together.

Thank you! & Happy New Year

Thoughts?

I think a red star looking-for-group channel would be a great addition personally. A more advanced queue of any sort has been avoided due to moderation concerns, and because corporations have a very robust system already in place.

I believe it was considered by several people at one point but it would probably end up with one corp dominating the channel. The other issue is policing it because there will be arguments. As far as the RSQ bot goes, I've left it with each server to police it how they want. It will give you a global heads up as to who is queued where by default, but do require setting a few options for taste. You would also need to negotiate with them what the requirements are for whatever corp. Open to anyone https://discord.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=1055503950067007569 There might be another option to consider though. I'll post the /global command here after this. At one point I had a demo channel where it updated what each corp was running about once a minute.

It just gives the heads up as to where to find people and it is up to them to police it how they want

True. I guess players could request to host others at their corp too.

But having a channel for doing the requesting on this official server would be nice i think. Especially if players don’t want to join other corps’ discords.

I get the argument around dominating RS Bot and RS runs..although i don’t know of any corp that is more dominant than BSO already. So I think the domination is already here.

That being said, an official RS bot isn’t necessary but a channel for finding RS teams would be good.

There are two problems with a HSO RS queue.

1.) Moderation. Someone (or rather, a group of people) would need to deny access to bad actors, leachers, etc. And settle disputes. They would need to be active and reliable.

2.) Hosting. Some corp(s) with high bonus would need to host RS runs from here. Ideally the moderators from 1.) would be officers from that corp(s)

The only way I see this work is if we get multiple of the larger corps to pool their queues into this, otherwise we'll just have one more queue that competes against all others.

My vision of an HSO RS channel wouldn't be a formalized queue, more a designated place to find active players. Just a basic LFG channel. That would:

  1. still require some moderation to block bad actors, I imagine this would be few and far between. It would be a new type of moderating though, where you have to draw a line between being a bad teammate and malicious, which can be annoying (ie constant solitude trolling).
  2. an LFG channel can just have a group of players agree on where to meet, I don't think it needs complicated hosting. If HSO had approval from some larger corps for them to be recommended/ pinned in the channel, that would be an option. More just give their blessing to continue doing what they already do.

HSO is considerably more accessible than individual corp queues, and may be attractive with it being more casual. Definitely could strengthen some of the community presence, even if it's just a casual co-op coordination chat.

It is peculiar to not have a chat for the games primary multiplayer mode. Imo.

# stone chasm True. I guess players could request to host others at their corp too. But havi...

A long time ago there was the clubs, it still has a large amount of participants and we could probably resurrect it if anyone wanted to take the helm. (queue bot already installed and corporations are approached periodically to ensure they want to be on the public list) https://discord.gg/qbQzNBnQ4m

There is also the compendium linked channels in which the compendium bot relays the chat accross several discords. https://discord.gg/JqN6bBCk

This thread is exclusively about HSO, not meant to shunt activity to single queue

I don’t mind having other options / discords being displayed on this thread, but I do agree that a simple HSO channel for meeting up would be good.

Bad actors / acting can be regarded in the same HSO RS / DRS channel. Players can agree on rule and role before teaming. And reporting bad actors or acting can be reported on the channel afterwards. These bad actors do not need to be moderated or blacklisted. You can simply search their nickname on discord to see what their “ ELO “ score is. Generally, most people who will likely use the channel will be players looking for more consistency in their RS and after meeting other like-minded, similar skill and RS level, and similar time zone, will likely continue to run RS’ with the same players. So moderation would really only be for the first few games and then informal teams formed thereafter.

I would like there to be as little moderation as needed, or simply community moderation. Its pretty easy to spot bad actors or simply ask players to play by the rules. And if they don’t, then you don’t have to let them into your corp when hosting a run.

Allowing players to organize and tag:

  1. RS levels
  2. DRS levels
  3. Hosting Corp
  4. Time Zone

And possibly a simple bot / program for hosting a match, that can be posted with a timer and accepted by other players could be an added benefit.

Ie: if I’m hosting:

  1. Input player name, corp, time to scan, and RS or DRS level.
  2. Post and allow to time out in 5-10 minutes. Or by when the Scan Time is.
  3. Allow players to join or request to join / be accepted by original poster (which would keep bad actors from joining / spamming).
  4. Possible post or track who is accepted to the RS and list participants.
  5. Disappear or be recorded after match is scanned for
  6. Potentially allow After Action reports to identify bad actors, poor performance, tips for those poor performers, feedback, thank you’s, shout-outs, etc.

Ultimately, however, less is more. So just a few ideas..

If there is anything I can do from my perspective, I will do my best to enable what you envision.
