McLaren 570s #1253923823498035270 message (sound replaced but still has some weird stuff going on, may be some "instrument" in car making the sound but still sounds weird and wasn't present in previous version - sounds a bit like flat tire, lol)

sound panning issue:
Mazda RT24-P DPi (explainable, exhaust on the left close to cockpit - but still sucks)
Praga R1 (explainable, holes in the engine cover on the right - but still sucks)

we have "free access" so I tested most cars that I didn't have because they were released in last 2 years when I was away from simracing and I face some sounds issues in bunch of them - exactly 4 but here I will first talk about 2 since these 2 has similar issue
both these cars sounds like at times they have some "vinyl crackling" added on top of engine sound

0:09, 0:25, 0:37, 0:41, 0:51, 0:56, 1:03, 1:12, 1:16

#

the non-Endurance version of Porsche will probably be 3rd since it should use the same sounds, right?
but I had no chance to test it today
test was done on Nords NLS from the pit exit to chicane if it matters

#

issues with sound in McLaren 570s GT4 and both Porsche 992 Cup cars

#

I can confirm that the non-Endurance version of Porsche also has this issue, which ofc isn't surprising

quaint summit
#

🙄 any feedback on this?

spare agate
#

lemme check in my client 🤔

quaint summit
#

it isn't only on my client for sure because I've watched stream yesterday where guy used that McLaren and it was the same

spare agate
#

still gotta check 😛

#

also gotta check if it happens in different builds etc

quaint summit
#

it should be there during normal driving like in the example but I also found one pattern where it happened every time
keep McLaren at 3rd gear, drop the revs to 4k and then rev it again to 6.9k and it will always produce this crackle

quaint summit
#

🙄 so, I really like both these cars but these sound "features" are little bit annoying

ok so if these 2 "passed" then I also would like to mention Mazda DPi and Praga R1
I don't care that much about these 2 cars so it doesn't bother me as much as these previous 2 because I won't use them probably never again (maybe I would Praga) but imo the sound "panning" is kinda wrong (?) in them and again I found only 2 cars with this kind of issue here

so the issue is - the engine sound is too much pronounced on the left or right side, I think it was to the right in Praga and to the left in Mazda
idk if I have very sensitive ears or something that makes me notice these things or people just don't care but I literally feel sort of ear numbness after using these cars for more than 5 minutes and it's more present in Praga than in Mazda imo but it is in both

#

I had issue like that before in other game, more specifically rFactor 2 when after their sound system update some GTE cars had similar issue (Aston, BMW and few other different cars can't remember which one atm)
situation was kinda similar, I also came back to that game after some break so update was out for few months, then when I had conversation with one of the devs about it and he was surprised that nobody reported it before, he said that I'm right but then they basically never completely fixed this issue - rF2 things I guess

quaint summit
#

would also like to add that I found similar "crackling" issue that McLaren and Porsche has in Mazda MX5 - I did some more laps in it today on NLS and noticed it, the difference is that it's much less frequent than in these 2 other cars so it's much harder to notice it because it basically happens only at like 5th gear which is rare to even hit 😅 sometimes at high revs on 3rd/4th and also at very low revs at 2nd/3rd - not sure about 6th because I never was able to hit it, 1st was fine I think

I heard argument some time ago when I mentioned it (not from dev, some guys) about exhaust placement or whatever but it doesn't make any sense at all since:
a) in other cars it doesn't work like that
b) in Praga u sitting in the middle, exhaust is in the middle so like ???

quaint summit
#

@spare agate will u look at this Mazda MX5 too? since it's similar issue to these other 2 u checkd previously?
these other 2 (Praga and DPi) also has issues but opinions are contradictory about them and this is different kind of thing than simply some weird noise that shouldn't be there

spare agate
#

ok

spare agate
#

hmmm cant hear anything similar, i hear some clicking, but sounds intentional/part of the sample (easy to trigger when you brake and accelerate again)

#

its worth mentioning that i tested in wip build, although i doubt theres any difference

quaint summit
#

I will record later if necessary same as I did with these previous 2

#

and I will try to find patters too to help replicate it

#

it's clearly the same things that happened in these 2 but like I said it happens much less often than in them

spare agate
#

kk, gonna try different track during next test

quaint summit
#

okay so the thing I found out is that it always happen during over-revving basically on every gear but not only then

#

this time I did the test on Daytona oval because it's easier here than on NLS

#

1st 0:06-0:10
2nd 0:13-0:17
then on 3rd u can hear it at 0:23 which is right before over-revving that happens from 0:24 to 0:29
in 4th u can hear it at 0:35, 0:38, then right before over-revving at 0:39 and during 0:41 to 0:49 multiple times again
5th is the most interesting to me - 0:58, 0:59, 1:03 and 1:05 I'm not even sure but then 1:06, 1:07, 1:11, 1:14, 1:15, 1:18, 1:21, 1:23, 1:26, 1:29, 1:30, 1:33, 1:37, 1:38, 1:41 and all that without over-revving because u basically can't hit that high revs but it probably would happen since it happens in all gears
then I go for 6th where nothing happens till the end because even on Daytona oval u can't get any revs on this gear
maybe at 2:06 right after I took the foot from the gas u can hear it too

quaint summit
#

if u will slow down at 2nd gear to like 65 km/h and then just accelerate it will happen around 92 km/h

#

it also happens on 3rd gear with the same amount of speed

#

on 4th gear if u will slow down to 65 km/h it will happen at like 98 km/h

#

5th gear same starting point 65km/h and it will happen at 84 km/h and then twice around 102 km/h

#

I hope it's enough 😅

quaint summit
#

BAD NEWS is that I found another example with same issue

#

is this still the same guy responsible for the sounds? or it changed some time ago because I don't recall having this issue in older cars

#

maybe I should try all cars again on this Daytona, especially the newer ones (means released in like last 2 years) because it let focus more on sounds than Nords lmao

noble carbon
#

here I only hear faint clicks at 0:12 and 0:15 and couldn't hear anything at other timestamps

noble carbon
#

listened through a dedicated sound card + Senh 595, so should be fairly okay quality. also took a look at that mp3 file in Audacity but I'm a complete noob in this stuff and didn't notice anything obviously suspicious there

#

I hear a lot of clicks here, on most timestamps, but again, not on all of them

quaint summit
#

@spare agate will u check these 2?

#

I will test more soon 🤣

spare agate
#

sure

#

also, no need for tags 😛 im participant of this thread

quaint summit
#

I don't think there is many more cars where it happens

#

but I will test some more of them

kindred oxide
#

there seriously just need to redo the 992 sound as a whole

#

It's horrible

quaint summit
#

I think I heard it somewhere in the background of Audi Evo 2 during braking/reductions too but it's barelly noticeable since many things going on with the sounds then - minor thing compared to all these mentioned before

quaint summit
#

issues with sound in a bunch of cars

quaint summit
#

I'm back and I can already tell u that Calibra and Alfa also has this issue 🤣 how it is possible

#

what's going on guysssss 🤣

#

seems like I really need to check all these other cars in the game and I will do it for sure 😂

#

is something changed or some sound departament decline happened in last 2-3 years which created these sound issues because like I already said I don't recall older cars with this problem - the first one with sound issues I spotted was Merc GT3 Evo before I goes for simracing break so it was at least 2 years ago but I need to say that this one had different issue which was harder to replicate, these just pops left and right and it's kinda weird to me that none of the testers spot it during pre release testing in so many cars since I found 6 (7 because of double Porsche Cup) with similar issue already - especially when nothing is required to replicate it because it just happens

and this topic doesn't even touch the different issues with sound panning on Mazda DPi and Praga

quaint summit
#

I did short test with Calibra on Portimao and these sound issues are present in the final version - I can record it if needed 😅

#

I didn't tested Alfa atm but I probably will later/tomorrow

#

does any of these previous examples (992 Cup, MX5, 720s, 570s) were updated this patch?
there was nothing about them in patch notes but there also wasn't about Audi physics changes for eg

quaint summit
#

any feedback about these?

timid mountain
#

Have you tested the 992 GT3 R with your attentive ears? To me it sounds like the sound is bugging near the top of almost every gear

#

Dunno if it's WAD, but sounds like there's a weird skip in the audio near (but significantly before) the limiter. Somewhat similar to actually hitting the limiter, so it was confusing at first. Especially noticeable near the top of 3rd gear

quaint summit
#

I did few laps in it on Nords but didn't noticed

#

I will test more cars thursday-friday even if it seems like nobody cares

#

the best way to test is probably use Daytona oval because u can fully focus on the sounds

#

but I don't have all of them so it isn't always possible, especially since most of the cars affected or even all of em are cars released in like last 2-3 years so right after I bought premium 😅

#

I will also try to find what's wrong with the Audi because I swear there is some weird thing going at times but even for me it's hard to spot and replicate it during lapping, maybe on Daytona it will be easier

quaint summit
#

as expected mclaren 720s evo also have the same issue

0:04, 0:07, 0:09, 0:15, 0:19, 0:27, 0:30, 0:37, 0:50, 1:09, 1:26, 1:52, 1:56, 1:57

quaint summit
#

in calibra some of the examples are very subtle, some are "standard"

0:04, 0:05, 0:19, 0:33, 0:39, 1:13, 1:15, 1:19, 1:32, 1:47, 1:48, 2:01

quaint summit
#

alfa romeo 155 is interesting case since it seems like it's relatively rare here but it happens
during driving I noticed like 2 of these after listening to recording I heard few others

0:14, 0:25 (this one is weird, very subtle and I didn't heard example like that in any other car), 0:58, 1:10, 1:29, 1:45, 2:32

idk if anything changed in this car since the "beta" release for press because in the example from Ross McGregor from Traxion I linked above it seems like these "pops" were more pronounced there and was more of them

quaint summit
#

@timid mountain I checked ur Porsche video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeaNFZiuzUc
but I didn't found anything weird in these timestamps u provided here #💬│general message
BUT I found these "cracklings" I'm looking for the most 😅 at 0:05, 0:28, 0:34
VERY VERY rare in this example but it shows me that I should record Audi Evo 2 also because seems like I didn't misheard it during Nords lapping, it happens but it's very rare in these cars

@slim arrow u were right about Mazda DPi - exhaust on the left and sound is to the left but I still think that sound in this car could have been arranged better (still, seems like not a bug itself so sadly I need to delete it from my list 😅)

#

but that's the Praga R1, the second example I had problem with in regards to sound panning
to me the engine sound seems more pronounced to the right headphone and there isn't any logical sense behind it since it has central exhaust and u even sitting at the center - there is some vent on the right side but should it make as much difference?

slim arrow
quaint summit

u are probably right, these 2 are explainable even if it sounds bad in the headphones

#

at least I don't care about these cars that much 😅

McLaren 570s GT4 - Tweaks to sounds

I would love to say that it's fixed but there are still issues with it

  • this car is now slightly quieter than before
  • these previous "cracklings" #1253923823498035270 message are mostly gone but there is some other things going on now and it basically happens all the time instead once a while like previously 😅 idk how to even call these sounds now 🤣 there are some timestamps where it's more pronounced but it's going almost all the time - 0:08, 0:10, 0:13, 0:19 and 0:21-0:27 is culmination
#

I appreciate that it isn't ignored but the end result of these changes is still off and something weird is going on in it - I still would call it improvement because instead of these weird pops u can threat it as some broken part of the car moving or idk 🤣 but this shouldn't be satisfying end result

btw I should check the outside cams probably too 😅

I have noticed some cars while stationary sounds like looped audio file with quantized bpm grid

So i meditaded to it

I have standard settings on Windows 10 without these enchantments
the only thing I changed in game was skid/second option for tires, little boost of brake sounds and disabling the wind
ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Plus + HyperX Cloud 2, but all this doesn't matter since I also can hear it on other system with Intel and different headphones, also on phone with some crappy wireless headphones when I open some youtube videos or twitch live where people use these "affected" cars
for eg I noticed issues with Calibra and Alfa before release on the previews that guy from traxion.gg uploaded
also maybe u should ask "Anthony" or whoever work on it first since I know he (or someone responsible for it) noticed these issues at least in McLaren and Porsche Cup after my reports so that last update wasn't "random" @novel bluff

quaint summit
#

so clearly other people hear it too not only me, seems like the other half of people that can't hear it are just a bit deaf or something 🤣 or just don't pay enough attention and I'm in the other hand very sensitive for this kind of things
they can also use speakers like Dimitar Yankov - on speakers it is much harder to hear it since sound is much less direct, even my super-ears may struggle with noticing it this way

Hello guys, I just wanted to confirm that most of these issues have been reported to me a few months ago, but some of them will require to make a new sound from scratch for each cars, which explains why they were not fixed in the meantime. If no new audio recordings are available, it's not possible to redo these sounds yet. For some others sounds, I wasn't able to hear the issues you described, which doesn't mean that there's no issue, but I need to hear it if I want to fix it. I check my ears on a regular basis, and they're fine, but it might be that I'm not as sensitive to some frequencies and sounds as I used to be. Anyway, be sure that all yours reports were not ignored, far from it;)

quaint summit
#

at first when I created this thread I thought that something changed in "production methods" and it only happens in cars released in like last 2 years since all the cars I used more before hadn't this issue but Cayman is like much older content I think and also have same thing going on - or maybe the sound was replaced in last 2 years, hard to say

quaint summit
#

Alfa Romeo 156 ST have this issue too - which is a shame since car is quite nice to drive
also this is one of the most severe ones since it happens a lot of times not like twice or thrice when u go from 1st to 6th like on many other examples

I won't record the sample since nobody cares, but I will keep updating the list for my research purposes 😅

quaint summit
#

Mercedes DTM 2002 have this issue too, more subtle than many others but it's here

and new BMW M4 Evo have same thing going as old M4, the same files used I guess

quaint summit
#

in Laguna ST it also happens, like 3 times when u accelerate normally from 1st to 6th - I think on 2nd, 4th and 5th gear
the most pronounced "crackle" from all these happens at 5th gear around 8300 rpm

and Honda have them too sadly, these are quite subtle but still happens

quaint summit
#

there are some improvements on BMW GT3
still happens - for eg 6th gear 6300 rpm but seems like much less often than it was before
