even though "comment vas-tu" is correct too

if you're using "vous" it's most likely formal anyways, in which case you'd use inversion

For a singular person, yea. You can use vous for multiple people though

But it being weird when speaking formally is probably why it still sounds a bit weird even if it's not a formal register
