#Extra sdc channels

iirc we were supposed to do it, but we ended up not doing it
But also a concern brought up by the community is that some questions are already left unanswered in the channels as it is, so maybe shrinking it to one channel will make it worse because it will bury the questions
I'm not that active in the sdc channels so idk why some questions are left unanswered, but it seems like a valid concern to me
Re: unanswered questions
More often than you'd think, questions don't get answered (by me at least, don't want to speak for other people) because of the question itself, not the overall number of questions.
The question is super specific or astute and I don't know the answer, or it would take me too long to answer it, or I can't understand it even though the person who asked phrased to the best of their ability as far as I can see ...
There could be as many reasons as there are questions. I think even if you had an ideal perfectly streamlined queue system for questions, some of them would unfortunately be unanswered.
questions that go unanswered generally fall into one of these categories:
- too vague or unclear
- a question not posted in the first post that creates the thread, thus necessitating clicking into the thread to see it
- a question that can be very easily answered using Google or a dictionary
- obvious homework
- a question that was posted at a time when the server wasn't very active (late night in North America, morning in Europe, in my experience)
- a question that just happened to be posted at the wrong time and that got buried by other posts (this is the rarest in my opinion)
I don’t think that’s a great idea tbh, sometimes when I have a question I search to see if it has already been asked and answered or not
Those channels have been around for so long that they actually have useful info in them
if we were to "get rid of them", they'd be archived in a way that people who want to access them could
When my questions go unanswered after a few days I just delete them and repost just to see if people missed it and that tends to be the case
I've been thinking about having a kind of FAQ/logic chart titled "My question didn't get an answer. Why?" that would walk the reader through these cases and give tips accordingly to increase their hitrate, or find the answer on their own.
However I think a fair share (not all!) of the people that would complain about having their question unanswered would also be the kind of people who would not have the patience or the interest for reading such a document. cf. pepople not reading the homework rule when invited to.
But I suppose you could go at it with the "if it helps one person, it's worth doing" attitude
I dont think that deleting both of the extra channels is a good idea to be honest.
Salle de classe 1 is ALWAYS just so flooded with questions that i can't seem to navigate. I'd say that salle de classe 3 is not that useful as there isnt a lot of people using the second one. So maybe just archive the third one?
I personally find the second one useful
When we were last discussing changing around the structure, our plan wasn't actually to get rid of the other two salles-de-classe, but to have a french only salle-de-classe where questions and answers would be expected to be only in French
While I'm not 100% enamored by every aspect of that personally, I think the best way to fix things up a bit would be to give a specific purpose to each salle-de-classe so that they are organized more thematically... we'd still need a catch-all classroom (because people ignore the names of rooms here all the time) but perhaps we could do like salle-de-classe-générale, salle-de-classe-français-uniquement, salle-de-classe-grammaire, salle-de-classe-vocabulaire, and obviously salle-de-classe-vulgaire
that solution would actually add a new salle-de-classe, which I'm not sure about... but I'm just trying to illustrate a general idea
Huh, i feel like i wouldn't know how to class my question if for example i wanted to get a sentence or a paragraph corrected, would that be grammar?
like I said... "illustrating the idea" xd
I am also not a fan of deleting the other channels due to reasons already brought up
like I said here, they'd be archived in a way that they'd still be accessible to people who want access if we ever were to hide them
