yes
i dont think ive even met 10 people in my whole life
we would have to like dm people asking to get stars now lol there's never 10 people in anglais simultaneously
what are the last messages that almost got pinned?
maybe they weren't starboard-worthy then :þ and given what was getting pinned lately I think it's a good filter
however, let us know if there are messages that you think should be starboarded and fail to in the future
but when will 10 people be in the same place at the same time
we'll see if it needs adjusting
right, so that's where a filter comes in handy :p
we don't want a daily pin
the rarer the better, hopefully
but then it's just going to encourage people to ask for stars
then people should know better :p
stars are something you deserve, not something you ask for
it's #🌈anglais-français you have very high standards for us when we have the collective iq of a drunk ant at a 7 year old's birthday party
yes but people will ask for them when a message is like 3 off now because it was raised by like 3, and it'll be hard to have a moment where something funny is said and there's 10 people around and they all star it
well, I believe the filter was about changing that mentality but we might be better off addressing it differently
thing is, we've already said multiple times before not to abuse the starboard, so I don't quite see what more we can do (and ultimately we raised the threshold because of that)
except telling people it's not okay to ask for stars
but I haven't noticed anyone do so lately (I could have missed it)
well idk
again, next time something specific happens, you can let us know (#NostradamusDMs) so we can be more efficient in dealing with this
maybe it could get a rework or something
i mean
nothing like that is complain the modos worthy
it's just a message that I suppose wasn't good enough to be starred idk
they all reached the old threshold but not the new one
I don't know, I don't think the starboard is something we're prepared to put a lot of energy into
I believe the community should be more sensible as to what they send in there
because it's something that is there for the people and managed by the people
then why punish people for starring stuff
yes it's abusing it, but people, active people, still decided to star the messages
we like that the community can have a channel to have fun with, but we don't want to showcase abuse at the top of the server
fair enough
that's not the image we want to give
I get it but the community was having fun, i think people would've seen that more, but I do get your point
so yeah, the threshold may be too high (and we'll see about that in the future), but in the meantime that's the simplest way we can tell the community to pay more attention to what is pinned
idk maybe the issue isn't the limit, maybe it's the people doing it
maybe ban people from the starboard if they abuse it again
like I said, we've addressed starboard abuse several times before
and we don't want to have to manage it 24/7
this is just my 2¢ in the end but I'm pretty sure a lower threshold will be back eventually
when things settle down
(as in: when people stop starring out of habit)
maybe have community members do it
hmm
Starboard Modos
but then it would become all the more arbitrary
Modos d'Étoiles
wdym
people weren't happy when I removed some pins arbitrarily; if non-staff get to do it, it'll be worse
well
also, modos d'étoiles means something that we have to think about and setup, aka effort put in the starboard, and that's not what we want
there's some stuff that obviously needs removed
like one word messages and questionable stuff
if you think so you should report these kinds of messages
well i mean
it happens all the time i thought
idk
i dont look at the starboard anymore
that's why we put a higher threshold?
if people starred it in the first place it'll get starred again
it depends on the circumstances
well I don't know
I feel like I answered all of your points
we'll look at the starboard again some time in the future
and see if we make adjustments
yes I'm just sharing ideas
ya, thanks!
And who deals with that stuff
if you don't want to put effort into the starboard, who deals with the list of stuff that has effort in it
is it the modos or the committee
I'm not sure I understand the question
effort naturally goes into what's currently more problematic
well yes but isn't there a list of things that needs done somewhere
or are those only for the bots
oh yeah, several
there are comité, modo and admin todo-lists
all of which are
rather large
:D
oh also developers' todo-list
probably the biggest of all
no
or are things being added faster than they can be done
well
we don't add items to todo-lists whenever something comes up
we decide what's worthy of being in a todo-list
so the lists are more or less always the same length
ah
doesn't mean we get nothing done, quite the opposite
nono I'm not saying that
we just make sure we spread workload evenly
tableau des étoiles (and staff todo-lists)
I'm saying there's a lot of things that do need to get done I figure maybe things are probably being added faster than they can get done with such a small team of people working on them
no, that's what I'm saying
we filter things we add to todo-lists
to make sure the list doesn't grow faster than we get things done
for example if you told me “what if Nostra helped dealing with the starboard”, that would be low-priority development and I would say no, because there are more important things to get done
now that sounds extremely dismissive though lol
usually what we do is like
we try to figure out how to optimise ideas first
and I'm basically alone in this chat so other staff might look at it and be like “wait, Eowyn is wrong, this could actually be worth doing”
then we'd discuss it and maybe it'd get added to the todo-list after all
interesting
it seems like a lot of thought is put into ideas though, even the ones that seem kinda of useless
which is nice to know
but yeah i do see how there's many other things that take priority over issues like this one
