Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

well i got this group of plural peeps. ill include preferred pronouns in case its relevant for gendering:
June, elle (this one is just loaned directly from her english name, though i might change it. its rather unusual though, and is actually derived from "Junior" as a nickname)
Condor, il
Capi, il (his English name is Skipper, so i did a funny of "yeah nobody knows how the heck he came to be called "Capitaine")
Freuse, iel avec l'accord feminin (feminized form of Freux, which is something done with a few canon names; they/she in english)
Cormoranne, elle (< Cormoran)
Rouge, iel avec l'accord neutre (i.e. un·e dragon·ne) (they/them)
Manchot, il ou elle depending on the day

another system owned by a friend:
Renarde, elle
Zéphyr, il ou elle
Rafal? il (wasnt sure on this translation)

the above caste was for translating an RP as an exercise because i was bored. two more OCs i named bc boredom:

Jais et Morpho, il pour tous deux

and i am in the process of some new characters for a specifically French story, of whom only one is named: Paradisière, elle (< Paradisier)

There are no names shortenings in French like you can find in Polish and the like

#

Only some names have common diminutives, and they don’t follow a pattern
But you can come up with one yourself for your friends

@desert granite as far as I know it is either shortening or reduplication.
Some names can fit both patterns e.g. Julien -> Juju or Jul
I don't recall any phoneme swap like Robert -> Bob. Bob would feel strange in French if not for the English influence.
