Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
looks pretty A1 to me going by this
oh is this supposed to be for production orale
i mean going by what's on the grille yeah it looks a1 to me, some of the stuff on there doesn't really apply tho
yeah I'm a little too tired to format them prettily rn but let's see
but none of that really matters for being A1 probably
Merci beaucoup!! 🩷
I honestly thought that I was A0 lol
i mean A0 isn't really a thing
you're welcome ❤️
A0 is a thing but it's when you literally know nothing
I did a test on lawless French and it told me I was A0
A0 isn't a CEFR level, but some places will use it just to help you orient yourself. CEFR levels aren't about what you're working on, but what you can do already.
Pardon but isn’t « suis d’Angleterre » a little stilted? Thought it should be « viens d’Angleterre »
Salut!
I've made all of the corrections, does it look good now? Thank you for all of your help!
Don't write couramment pas fluide xd
She said you should say couramment, not fluide

(do you mean one penpal or several? it's either mon correspondant or mes correspondants) J’adore lire des livres aussi. J’aime beaucoup/énormément mon copain, et je suis relaxant avec il tout le monde (idk what you mean here), nous regardons YouTube et jouons à Roblox, et Fortnite, et Among Us parfois.
Than you so much!!
Also I meant several pen pals! When I was talking about my boyfriend, I was saying that we like to relax together by playing YouTube etc
I couldn’t quite think of how to phrase it but I tried my best
You need to learn ensemble then
Means together
il is a subject pronoun, you're like never gonna see it without a verb right after it
And tout le monde = everyone
You also need to learn possessive adjectives
Mon ma mes
Ton ta tes
Son sa ses
Etc
Yeah I really want to find a way to memorise everything, but I can't
You're not expected to memorize everything, that comes with time
Wordreference is an excellent source if you're stuck on a word
I can't even seem to memorise the simple things at the moment though lol
I'll have a look at it!
You probably have more knowledge than you think, it just can be frustrating and take time
I regularly forget words lol
It feels like I have some of the knowledge that I built up of French from school, but that was so long ago that I've forgotten even some of that. But I don't feel like I've learnt many new things since re-learning French, and I still struggle with verbs/tenses and I feel so stuck with them
In school I remember just not understanding verbs/tenses, like there was a mental block, and that's still the case
i promise you that you're not stuck, learning a language is just a very slow process
After school i felt like i forgot everything, when evaluated I was told I had the lowest level possible. It took a while but having that foundation in my head definitely helped me
Yeah I took a French test that told me I was A0 lol even though I know quite a few words, and can form a simple paragraph about myself/my family
i took 2 years of French in high school and didn't use it for 10 years and forgot 90% of it, you'll get it all back
it sounds to me like you're craving signs of progress to stoke your motivation. that's actually one of the difficult parts of language learning because it's so slow, you hardly ever notice day to day progress. but CEFR levels are really not a good source of motivation because for most of us it takes at least 6 months to climb each cefr level
Yeah I get that, I should probably remind myself that I am improving even if I don’t notice it. So many of my hobbies I started by being terrible at them, but I put in the effort and now I’m decent at them
yes, and, you can look for different, more sensitive ways to gauge progress. A simple example being keeping a diary of 3-5 new words or concepts you learned a day. That way you have visual evidence of daily progress.
And something that helps for me is just to occasionally notice and celebrate those moments of "wow I just expressed something I don't think I could have expressed before, I think I'm improving."
Oooh that’s a good idea thank you!! I might make an AJA notebook
Learning language is funny because for a lot of people, the process is really angst-ridden. I feel like it brings out a lot of... communication based social trauma? or something? In any case, I see so many people saying "I'm stuck, maybe this is impossible for me" and I wish I could just brain transfer my understanding/emotions to them. Feeling lost and like you're in a maze is common, but really it's not a maze, it's just one long path that we're all walking together and every new thing you learn is a step along that path.
alternatively, you could use #aja for that and potentially help other learners learn new words
Thank you for all of your advice Morgana!! It means a lot to me☺️
of course
good luck! we're rooting for you!
Thank you so much!!
cute emoji
I’ve already got 2 AJA’s for today🤭
wish i could steal it
you can! on desktop
i think you right click on it and open in browser or something?
oh
Then save image
eh
Save image and send it as an image
you could ask them to add it to the servers emojis in #about-server you never know
