you'd say puis-j'avoir or etait-ss
but you'd write puis-je avoir and etait-ce
and if the word can't make a t sound in between we add it

Well puis-je avoir and puis-j'avoir would be pronounced exactly the same, so "puis-j'avoir" in writing doesn't really mean anything unless you're reminding someone the "e" doesn't randomly come back
