The "de" can be replaced by "en" if you're replacing the thing you need by a pronoun

if you're not using en, then yes you need de. (cuz en secretly de... sometimes)

It likely won't be understood correctly, would most likely be understood as "besoin de" (unfinished sentence) or "besoin d'eux" (ungrammatical still)
Technically that string of words could be grammatical but definitely not on their own
