Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

This is an impersonal construction. Personal ones would be:

  • Il a ajouté [line]
  • [line] est ajouté
#

Impersonal structures are more frequent in written French, literature.

#

In "il est ajouté [line]", the real subject is after the verb, the pronoun il is only apparent.

#

Here, there is inversion after the line.

Indirect? How so?

That's because il doesn't represent anything, it's just there as a dummy pronoun. It's just there in impersonal constructions and the real subject is moved after the verb.
Un accident est arrivé => il est arrivé un accident
Or in this case: [line] est ajouté => il est ajouté [line]
