I mean, still a natural way

you could also say

si vous êtes pas certain de ce qu'est le mot fermentation

or even

si vous êtes pas certain c'est quoi le mot fermentation

but this one is very informal

and that's a very important answer

Not just what is

ce => the thing
que => that

"ce que" here translates to "what", as in the kind that describes something using a verb

ce que je fais => what I'm doing
ce que tu dis => what you're saying

"ce qui" also exists, if you know the que vs qui difference
