Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
The question is not "what do I put before a verb?" most of the time
It's "what do I put after the previous verb?"
Different verbs take different prepositions afterwards some take multiple prepositions, some take none, some the meaning changes depending on the preposition and some need a different preposition (or none at all) depending on if what follows is a verb or a noun
so, for instance, the verb "parler" can take muliple prepositions
you can "parler à quelqu'un" → to speak to someone
you can "parler avec quelqu'un" → to speak with someone
you can "parler de quelqu'un" → to speak about someone
and you can "parler de faire quelque chose" → to talk about doing something
So is it that i have to memorize which verbs take which prepositions ?
