Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Je ne mange jamais
The sentence isn't grammatically correct, did you use AI to check that?
This kinda sounds like English's do-support wherein you insert the verb 'to do' in order to negate. It's not grammatical, no.
If I have a sentence like 'I eat', negated it'll be 'I do not eat' because negation does not work for plain verbs, only modals (can, may, should, would, will, to do in some cases) and auxiliaries (to be and to have). In French, negation works with any verb so « Je mange » would be negated as « Je ne mange pas ». The literal word-for-word translation into English would be 'I eat not'.
Thanks! It was an approximation I made, I don't know of or have a perfect method for checking grammar and I'd rather not use AI.
good, I was reading between the lines because you said it "seemed" correct so I figured you had been mislead by an AI
Nah just me being dumb lol
To give you a feeling of how the first one comes off, it's sort of like "I makes never eats"
Yeah it's totally incomprehensible
or "I make/say: don't ever eat"
also it should be "je fais" and not "je fait"
if you were trying to say "i make/do"
faire really doesn't seem to translate very smoothly into English in a lot of cases
ig because both "do" and "faire" are both so commonly used that they easily become idiomatic or something
mhm that was the idea
