Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
It depends on what you mean. French contains much more than just what you learned in school, but it also contains what you learned in school
there are different registers of French
you probably learned soutenu
It's not as different as many people would have you believe, but certain registers are focused on more (soutenu)
You can kind of think of how you'd write in an essay vs. talking to your friends. It's not an entirely different language or anything, but you might word things a bit differently
Languages classes aren't completely disconnected from reality, the teachers actually know the language (usually)
Yep!
But I'm curious, what if a local speaks to me and I don't understand? It's the same thing when I watch movies sometimes and don't understand what they're saying
Ooh
Unless that local uses 100% slang (impossible), you will understand them
-# provided you actually learn French in the class
Probably not fully because there's gonna be a lot of changes for example in diction speed and vowel deletions
Currently, I'm still learning, so I don't understand some things, but once I finish, it'll be fine, right?
Sure
It's just that as fquel said French is a lot more than just 'classroom French' but even if you learnt only classroom French you would still be able to speak French
Thank you!
Another problem i have though, I can understand what ppl say but I don't know how to respond
It comes with practice
