Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Im still learning A1.2 french.
How can I work on my accent and learn more words?
Hey ! First, to work on your accent, you can try shadowing but most importantly, listen to the language all over and over again, immersion is important
For the vocabulary, take a podcast on a subject you like and right the podcast down and then you can highlight the words you don't understand and make cards of 'em in anki
Once you do this, it's going to be motivating once you find yourself listening to a podcast and understanding the whole thing. It'll help you keep working
Bonne chance 😉
Ps, what u can do also is to take a list of the most common words and learn them, 1000 not any more but in the beginning it's gonna help u quite a lot
What about a book instead of a podcast
Well u really r a beginner and the thing with books is that u r going to encounter a lot of various words including the less useful ones. Moreover, as a beginner, it means u r not that used to listening to the language and this is quite important, and we don't speak like we write, even at all in fact. I think books can start to be interesting only when u start to have B1/B2 level, not before.
But if that's the only thing that motivates you, u can work just a little bit on it but it must not be ur main study
And also in books, it's possible u encounter grammar topics no one use in daily conversation or just orally in general.
*when I say B1/B2, it's the strict minimum on my opinion
yeah i understand
But u can also find audio books to complete ur books study
i am in an A1.2 class, she sends us videos. but i was wondering what else can i do because i dont feel like i understand much
Well, you know, first immersion is one of the most important thing, don't neglect it, you can find a french series u like, listen to music etc...
If you want, I can take a podcast or a video from youtube and then we could have a session together so I can show u the method, and in this session I would be the one to breakdown the whole thing so it would be easier but then when you would be doing this on your own i could just give u some tips or when u r stuck I would just be free
Don't hesitate to dm me
that's very kind of you
do you have a beginner friendly podcast? ill try and if i need any help ill dm you
If you want I just checked and there's the channel called "french mornings podcast", I think it's pretty good to start, she speaks clearly and you ve got accurate transcriptions thanks to the subtitles she wrote herself, the automatic ones on YouTube are a bit off. Just go on the channel and take whatever subject inspires you
(btw, if u like novel reading and have an e-reader, I have several books I can send you)
