Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
there are three ways to ask questions: intonation, est-ce que (what you attempted), and inversion (duolingo's answer)
the thing is duolingo only gives you one answer and doesn't explain your mistake, so it doesn't really help improving
your mistake is that when asking a question using "est-ce que", the latter goes after any interrogative adverb like pourquoi/comment/où/quant/etc
so "où est-ce que"
Makes perfect sense thank you
And yeah, without discord and other resources, Duo would be a bad learning tool
You can think of 'est-ce que' as 'is it that' in English, they translate pretty well.
Où est-ce qu'il est allé ?
Where is it that he went?
Est-ce qu'il va bien ?
Is it that he's doing alright -> Is he doing alright?
hey @median thistle 👋
this channel uses a thread system to answer questions
*tu peux.
<mot> est feminine ?
'Mot' is masculine.
Why did sam999 say la mot in their message
They were mistaken, that's all.
Thanks - I’m at a stage where I’m picking up all information so incorrect stuff easily throws me off 😅
That's one of the downsides of a learning server like this one. You have a learning environment with many people in the same situation as you are, but that also means they'll make mistakes as well.
That's part of the reason we have colored roles for proficiency level
Green/teal names like Flynn's with the hat icon are tutors. They're individuals with a deeper understanding of the French language, so their answers tend to be the most reliable if you're ever unsure. Natives are blue, advanced speakers are a neon green.
